- Give your bees the space they need to store nectar! This video offers a quick-hitting explanation of when to use a queen excluder when adding a honey super. The difference lies in whether you are supering up with foundation or with drawn comb.

Thanks for your sharing on this video. I added Super but the bees either do not want to come up or come up some but mostly stay in the brood box and then swarmed. I am raising wild honey bees in Asia so they have a high instinct or tendency to swarm...anyway, I was thinking the same way you shared in this video which give me hope that this way will work.
Thanks again.
Great information and video, Tx
I watched your video very carefully and I understand what you are doing. However, I did not see you check for swarm cells at all. I have added room for hives and they can still swarm when you add a super with or without drawn comb.
I have found queens like to use cells that have hatched brood before.
My question for you is: when would you make your split to keep the bees from swarming. I take my old queens out with as much as half the hive with additional room to prevent swarming. No guarantee of course. How do you handle this potential problem. I am in NJ. Thanks. Mike
How long after an OAV treatment does it remain effective in the hive?
