I go every February to skate on the Rideau Canal! My most sincere admiration goes to the guys that do all this crazy hard work in the middle of the night for us to have great natural ice!

Great video coach! This is why I LOVE CZcams! Meeting guys like this that work quietly, without fanfare, behind the scenes to make good things happen for others to enjoy! Problem is, we couldn't get onto the canal on Family Day because there was no place to park that we could find, had to give up and went for a walk instead, not so fun.

@Dawn Keebolz we had last year and the year before, but most of the time we dont have any ice here. thinking about moving to canada/usa to get my skills up. training here in holland just sucks and we dont have a lot of ice time

My guess why playing hockey is forbidden must be coz early and late in the season the ice thickness might be dangerous to play on. Sure 1 guy can skate on the ice... but when you have 10 big players chasing the puck at one spot. The combines player weight and the waves of water that builds up under the ice will make it break. Correct?

To be accurate, Winnipeg has the longest rink in the world at 8.5kms. Ottawa has an issue with admitting this.

I was really hoping to skate the canal on my next visit this year, but I had to get knee surgery after a beer league injury, so I can't hit the ice again until September at the earliest 😣

Nope. It may be the longest, but definitely not the largest. The canal is much wider, the ice is superior and its way nicer.
