The Alaska Highway & Northern Rockies - a Solo Motorcycle Journey to the Arctic (S2:E8)

- Having successfully reached the Arctic Ocean yet again, Chad departs Dawson City en route to Whitehorse, to search for a new chain. Navigating closures, wildfires and endless road work, he makes his way to the Signpost Forrest in Watson Lake, before pushing south into the Canadian interior. Encountering bears, buffalo, and hoards of demonic mosquitos, he traverses the Norther Rockies in his quest to reach the end (or in this case, the beginning) of the World Famous Alaska Highway, in Dawson Creek.
Oh yeah, he also gets pulled over and loses his breaks...

"After fending off a beaver attack...." That's hilarious stuff !!
They were after my beer!!
Loved the ride! Arrived in US from Cuba in 1957. I was 7. When in the Subway I pretended I was in England. In school I would dream of living in an Igloo in Alaska. Been there once on the typical tour🤷🏻♀️. Loved Taku Lodge, it's distant Cuban connection and where I finally learned to eat salmon. 🙄 I'm now lost in fantasy in an old series, Northern Lights, and its heartwarming town (the series was ahead of its time) and beautiful scenery. Found your video. Loved the scenery in your video and that you don't talk 😮endlessly , mostly letting the viewer take it in.👍
Thanks so much! Ha.. I remember Northern Lights! That show was on a lifetime ago... Perhaps a return to Alaska is in your future!!
My mistake Northern Exposure -keep riding
You channel is quickly becoming my go-to stop for all things ADV motorcycling. You and your wife are an inspiration!
Wow!! That's awesome... Thank you! 🍻
The sight of that MC floating on that little pier is incredible/beyond description....risky....
Yeah, I'm prone to do stupid things in the name of fun... 😁
Nice trip, thank you brother for taking a trip to a very beautiful place 👍💖
Thanks for coming along!!
Inspiring trip .. never the last but one for the road.. Cheers
Cheers! 🍻
Love the narration....good videos...nice job
Thank you!!
Your video just popped up as a recommendation after I posted our newest Alaska video. My wife and I completed our Alaska trip on our motorcycles this past summer. We are both skydivers as well!! I enjoyed this video. I rarely watch a complete video but this one was done so well. Keep up the good work and enjoy life!
P.S. I agree with the killer Mosquitoes at Laird Hotsprings. They were so bad we refused to camp there and pushed on to Watson Lake.
Wow, kindred spirits. Congratulations on the ride! Where is your home DZ?? We got recurrent when we got back to Los Angeles but only got a few jumps in 😭
Yeah, the mosquitoes at the hot springs were seriously no joke. Worse the entire trip!
Thanks for watching it for the kind words. We'll check out your Channel!
@@TwoWheelsThreeSheets Our home DZ is Skydive Sebastian. We are not current but missing those balloon jumps. :-)
Balloon jumps are the best. That's how I got my wife hooked on dead air!!
Another great video 👍
Thank you! 🍻
Super video !!
Stay safe...
Thanks for watching!!! 🍻
EXCELLENT!
Thanks for watching!! 🍻
Thanks for another wonderful video. Great commentary and nice choice of music. What is the music. Regards from Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks for watching. I use a subscription service called Epidemic Sound that suggests music based upon past selections. I'm not sure of the artist or titles of these specific songs...
As always, entertaining, insightful & fun to watch ! Looking forward to the next one
Thank you sir!! 🍻
What a fantastic journey.
Thank you! Indeed it was!! 😒
@@TwoWheelsThreeSheets I know a lot of people probably say it. But I can’t wait until I do something like this.
I only got a Harley forty eight. So I hope to at least to do Route 66 since I’m only about 40 minutes from the start line in chicago.
I think it would be fun on a peanut tank 😂🤣
Route 66 is definitely worth checking off the list. I did it a couple of years ago with my 85-year-old father on the back of a Heritage Softail!
This was a great video!
Thanks.
Added bonus is that you got to see Tim Notier in his Natural habitat. 😂
Thanks for watching! Funny thing is this the 3rd time I've crossed paths with Tim in as many countries...
@@TwoWheelsThreeSheets that is very cool!
I am a big fan of his (and Marisa).
Good vid!
Thank you!!
Well done. Planning my trip.
Do you have dates in mind?
I enjoyed your trip. I have been up that road 5 times and love it.mosquitoes I hate. Road work is also a part of the challenge and a search for parts. Why i take a parts counter with me now.
It's a great road!! That's why I ride a Honda, less tools and parts necessary, but I still carry my fair share...
@@TwoWheelsThreeSheets i ride a African Twin Chad. 72000 miles on my current bike . Yes Honda is my choice as well
It's not just about getting there, it's about getting home! Ride red!!
Quality baby
It's a So Cal tradition!!
I stand up on the bike and stretch my legs quite often. I didn't know it was illegal some places.
Turns out... it's also illegal in a lot of US states from what I've been told... 🧐
.
The BC stunting law is ridiculous! Whether the physics actually agree, or not standing on the pegs is an essential part of skillful and safe motorcycling in some situations. Cops should be embarrassed to even consider enforcing it!
The cop was actually really cool. He told me he only pulled me over to let me know & make sure I didn't get in trouble... Apparently many states in the US have a similar law. I had no idea...
@@TwoWheelsThreeSheets I was ticketed in Kentucky, US for standing up (astride) a MC at a stop light.
At a red light?!?!? 😂
Awesome trip. That pier was dodgy. Look out for those beer beavers.
Where's that confounded pier? Those beer beavers are no joke, constantly chasing me around trying to jack my hops!!

@@TwoWheelsThreeSheets Not sure if you've checked out my channel at all. I really think you'll like my content. No worries if you don't. I think your content is awesome.
I have not but I will!! 🍻
Ok 👍👌 super
🍻
Road work is limited to summer, unfortunately can't do asphalt in -40 weather. We get used to it.
Yeah, just an unfortunate fact of life I suppose. I guess it beats the alternative of just letting the roads fall apart...
Were you afraid of bears watching this video?😆 I would like to have seen how you pass through that gate.
🤣 No - I was afraid of getting electrocuted.
I've lived in Juneau years ago ..I miss Alaska...
Alaska is a wild place!! Spent a couple of years on a seiner out of Ketchikan. It was a very cool time in my life....
@@TwoWheelsThreeSheets indeed. I lived right on the shore of the ocean(it was my front yard) Juneau..what a magical place.nit anymore. Cruise ships have destroyed all that once was there..water polluted, no more whales swim through there...
@@bilindamueller3154 what a shame... luckily I was in Ketchikan in the mid-90s, before the Walmart. 🙄
Interesting you got pulled over for standing. I had never heard of or even thought possible until 2 years ago I was pulled over by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). I really thought the guy was messing with me. Every indication was that the Trooper is not a rider. Fortunately I only got a written warning. I fact checked & found out it is illegal in Florida to stand on your motorcycle. It's a ridiculous, useless, outdated law. It is not illegal in all states. I like standing, so now I always look around before standing. I shared this nugget of info. with all in my local motorcycle club. I called the Sheriff's office b/c they ride motorcycles, Deputy said he would never pull over anyone standing unless doing something else illegal, & he said do that around the FHP & they will pull you over every time. That old saying in life, "it depends".
The law is in reaction to people "stunting" on motos. I didn't realize it was a law either until I got pulled over. 🧐
Shout out to the Ren and Stimpy reference.
Ha ha... at least some one caught it!! 🍻
Really enjoyed this video. Not to be a nitwit but they are bison, not buffalo.
Thanks for watching! I'm going to be honest with you, I don't think I ever realized there was a difference... 🤔
Didn't you find another way to change the chain of the engine? I saw oil in places, isn't that oil flow dangerous for the engine?
I'm sorry... I'm not sure I understand the question.
@@TwoWheelsThreeSheets I talked about this with the engine lying on the ground at 4:52 of the video
Ahh... no, lying on it's side isn't bad for the engine. I've heard of BMW with boxer engines hydrolocking after lying on the ground for too long, but that's about it... 🤔
@@TwoWheelsThreeSheets but still it's not good for the oil in the engine to go up :)
thanks..
🤔
There was a bear attack at Laird Hot Springs over 20 yers ago. Two people died. That's the reason for all the fences. Just be careful not to camp with a woman on her monthly cycle.
No kidding? We're they actually in the hot springs when they were attacked or sleeping in their tent?
wow..one mistake on the pier and your entire trip would have ended there.
Gotta spice things up every once in awhile... 😁
What’s he riding ?
2015 Honda CB500x... 💪
Pulled over for standing up? Never heard of that? You aren’t aloud to stand up maybe to ease a bump in the road?
Apparently it is a law to combat stunting. Actually, the section of road I was standing in was an escorted detour through dirt and road base...
