I just thought about another scenario. Seth came out in his shield attire. Remember who turned on the Shield, it was Seth. Seth lost his belt. What is Seth’s theme song? Burn it down. Think about it. Cody had the rock to find out who burned his bus. Rock give him a note telling him who burned it. Rock found clues leading to Seth set the fire and “burned it down.” Seth lost the world championship and he has his sights on the universal championship.
They're trying to bring back kayfabe with this new era. That's awesome.

I had heard from another wrestling outlet here on CZcams. This individual's thoughts on it being a "watch". And he went into great detail about how that particular storyline would play itself out. I thought he did a very thorough detailed job of explaining it. However, after hearing your theory i am now leaning towards this probably being it. And will more than likely be exactly how you spelled it out. You also did a very good job detailing the chain and timing of events that leads up to Rock handing Cody the lighter. And also what is to come in there re-match down the line. This makes a lot of sense. But one thing is for certain it's either the lighter or the watch more than anything else i've heard. I'm and on and off WWE guy as i haven't truly watched the product since 2008. As i grew VERY tired of the "PG" rating direction the company was taking. And i've been a fan and part of this business in a marketing capacity for my local indy fed. For the better part of 30yrs now. However, after Rock came back and had the RAW angle of him beating down Cody and making him bleed. Plus, with the company joining Netflix i think we are all FINALLY in for a more "edgier" product. Dare i say "attitude era" style of storylines and matches again. Personally, i think they could get away with "PG-13" RAW's and Smackdown's on Netflix. And even go as high as "TV-14" for some of their PPV's. Since with PPV you can get away with A LOT more. I've also heard the floating rumor about their being 2 shows a rated and unrated version. However, i'm not a fan of that because it puts unnecessary stress on the production team to edit all of that. They could easily fit everything into one show for both programs if they do it right. There is one big problem though that hasn't been addressed. And that is how do they handle Rock's absence from the company. Since his big return scored such huge ratings. Well here is my theory and suggestion on that very topic. They should re-instate the guest GM angle on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. That they had huge success with a few years ago. This will do two things. Give everyone the chance of seeing wrestlers and other personalities they haven't in a while. Such as; Foley, Austin, Bischoff etc...Who have all been in that role at one point. And secondly it gives those personalities the freedom of handling each show be it Raw or Smackdown as they see fit. It's a great "void filler" in Rock's absence and keeps the show and more importantly ratings hot. When you see how many viewers tuned in to see Rock upon his return. And then how they lost some 160k viewers when he wasn't on camera that's a HUGE deal. You want to keep things rolling while he's away. And i think this guest GM suggestion i'm throwing out would do just that. Hopefully, they'll implement it.

I can't really explain it, but couple that with the weird cryptic interactions, the belt exchange, 20k people chanting "this is awkward," etc. and it all seemed so strange & almost kind of creepy.

I didn't know about the X Tweets from HHH and Cody. In the Attitude Era, destroying each other's properties, mainly vehicles, was a thing that happened, no cops involved. How many Limos, Buses, and even Motorbikes have been destroyed over the years by the top guys at the time, be it Stone Cold, The Rock, Vince, Undertaker, HHH and DX, etc. Pretty sure we can find clips on CZcams about it. If they are bringing Attitude Era-esque action back, then I can absolutely, definitely buy the lighter/arson theory.

Cody gifted Dusty's HOF ring to Rock in request for Rock's help in overcoming the Bloodline. It was a treasure since Dusty was one of Rock's heroes. Bloodline rules (no DQ) ensured Cody could have outside help to fend off the Bloodline. Rock made Cody earn everything along the way by not taking it easy on him. He wasn't going to allow Cody to have an easy victory at WrestleMania either because he wanted Cody to be the hero and star that Dusty was to the Rock. So on Raw Rock returned the ring to Cody. What broke Rock's heart is that Cody would give up something so precious to the Rhodes family. Rock doesn't openly admit this because there will be Bloodline drama in the future between Rock and Roman for the 'Tribal Chief' title.
He also kept mentioning "no fireworks!".The word fire has been referenced a lot lately

I would think that if its the lighter, hes signifying to cody the passing of the torch to signify the start of the new era. I feel like somewhere in here there is a redemptive arc for Roman. If you watch where Paul Hayman embraces him in some of the backstage footage, you’ll notice that the crowd was also very much in favor of Roman and grateful to him. They could build on this and have a redemptive ark for Roman, where he turns baby face and somehow reconciles with Cody and perhaps they both end up somehow having to deal with the rock. I’m not sure how it would play out but my point is that I don’t think Roman is out of the picture.

It is something a family member of the Rock’s I assume his dad gave either Dusty or Cody and Rock probably saw it was cast aside or maybe Cody had it in the bus that caught fire and didn’t grab it but the Rock did to save it and said never break my heart again like it was some bond between the Rhodes and his family. Plus Rock said Dusty was his hero/idol or whatever.

I think that Philly crowd as I watched it live immediately I noticed that the crowd in real life really got to the Rock with the Rocky sucks chants and when they did a Dom on him which he egged on that really pissed him off in real life. I think he was literally giving him his flowers but you can’t turn a script so 180 because the crowd have got under your skin… saying that … its the rock, the boss, he flipped the WM script so he can flip any script now he wants cause of fueled ego and power.
One thing that pissed me off in the lead up selling mania he said he doesn’t just want to be around for a pop every so often so hes back now in pro wrestling… night after manias wrapped he’s heading off again… into the sunset

This all sounds good but they never mentioned the fire on TV did they? Wrestlemania had multiple shots of the bus. On night 2 they showed it and said Cody has been in it all day and refused to come out. Seems like that would've been a good chance to throw the fire thing in if they were going to build a whole match around it.

a very tough steak for me to chew here boss, but I do taste a tiny hint of flavour and garlic.
Ok, enough with that.... First, we don't have "in universe" knowledge of the fire. (I could be wrong on that) By this I mean that there has been no mention of it during the shows, or the PPV's. Only in social media and maybe local news. Ok, so that means between now and at least Summer Slam, most likely longer, we gotta tell this story of a fire and we gotta keep it in every ones minds while we wait for this match, hard to do, but not impossible. They can do a "what was that about segment" next week, where cody reveals a lighter, and then it is revealed about the fire, and then its got all fans thinking "holly shit the rock tried to kill Cody" We can do a "twitter war" like Rock and Cena did during the build to their WM28 match, assuming the match is at WM41 of course.
Now, add in how the rock did his catch phrase and you just MIGHT be on to something. (capitalization emphasis and not yelling)
To me what makes a tiny bit more sense is it is the watch that Dusty sold that he was supposed to give to Cody after he died, but he had to Pawn it during the real "Hard Times" the Rhodes family faced. Sure, it doesn't really explain the phrasing used for his catchphrase, but maybe we can do a "what was that all about segment" where Cody reveals his Daddy's watch which was mentioned at the press conference. So maybe The rock, who is friends with Nick Khan, recovered the watch or was the one who had it the whole time. Obviously the Heart Break part you hit the nail perfectly square on the head with. Maybe the catchphrase is just Rocks saying "don't forget bitch I am your boss, I am powerful, I just gave you back something important that you thought lost forever". Add onto this whole "Pot headed" theory that to me the look on Cody's face matches with this theory much better than yours does. (He seemed like someone who got something that meant a lot to him, and not someone who just got a threatening item, which the lighter would be)
Anyways sorry if this long explanation seems like it was written by a 9 yo and I hope I phrased this right, and thanks if you actually took the time to read this. All in all you've given me an interesting theory that I am going to think a bit more on.

The most interesting theory I've seen so far is that it was a bead from Roman's Ula Fala necklace. Cody would know what that is. The Rock was hurt because Cody is technically the leader of the bloodline now. By defeating Roman, Rock had to respect Cody. That's why he was respectful to him during this segment. He sees him as not just champion but technically his leader. So, that theory has me thinking the title of tribal chief is tied to the undisputed title if this theory is correct of course.
I really think it has something to do with the tribal chief/ head of the table. Like a piece of the necklace or something. Cody did pin Roman which would make him the head of the table and that’s what the Rock was ultimately after. That’s why the Rock was heartbroken. Idk know, just brain storming. lol!

When Rock beat the living hell out of Cody by Cody's bus, Rocky stepped in Cody's dog poop so he scraped it off his shoe and handed it to him on Raw last night. The Rock wears expensive shoes and it became a real american nightmare trying to clean it off. That's why he told Cody he didn't need to look at it because you could smell it a mile away.
If it's not dog poop then he handed him either a vodka or tequila bottle cap because Cody broke The Rock's heart by branding his bus with Wheatley American Vodka instead of The Rock's Teremana Tequila Blanco. The Rock is all about making money so he's pissed about missing out on that sponsorship deal.
