The NFL has learned that saying the quiet part out loud is good for business. To enrage a few people for the entertainment of the rest is proving to be a successful business model. It creates more storylines and helps them create more partner revenue.

Reminder: The NFL is an entertainment business. And "integrity of the game" is a loose phrase that can mean anything. For instance... yes, playing on Thursday night stinks. However, you get a mini-bye on the backend. Extra days to rest and prepare for your next game. Hence Roger Goodell's opinion that it all comes out in the wash and thus the integrity of the game still stands.
They do make a competitive balance. Yes it's a business but the teams play a schedule based on their previous year. Florio does a great job at telling fan groups who they should be mad at. Ratings will always be a major piece of this pie.
To keep things fair, why don't the NFL factor state taxes into the salary cap? The same contract in different states gives players different earnings and thus is an unfair advantage to some teams in attracting players.
Couldn’t agree more. I don’t understand how this isn’t talked about more, if your signing with a team in a state where you see all the money in your paycheck or a team where 50 percent or more is coming out why would anyone wanna play for one of those teams .
@@TheBigB22 As an English Jets fan for 30+ years now, I've always loved the salary cap and draft system thar the NFL has in place to try to keep things competitive and fair. So, the state tax system seems to act as an unfair advantage to some teams in their ability to recruit players.

Except they only get those tax breaks from their home games. You don’t get taxed based on what team you play for. You get taxed based on where you play each individual game. Players who play in a heavy tax state only pay that heavy tax rate for home games. They pay the same tax as the home team when they play their away games.

I agree with Florio 1000%. Injuries happen all the time and are unpredictable. Jets owe us nothing. Dont hear anyone saying Bengals owe us for Burrow getting injured or patriots owed us one when Brady went down for the year.

The NFL doesn’t care, they only care about the money and ratings. It’s up to the players to advocate for their selves. NFL players can advocate for two weeks off in a season . 1 week off after first 6 games and second week off after another six games.
Rodgers return had nothing to do with grabbing attention, he was returning if the Jets won more games, the WAS game was the goal and he was going to play at who knows, 80% or so. Wouldn't expect him to be running but from what was said and shown at Jets practice, he could of been a pocket passer like he did in 2018 with his knee injury.
The jaguars played 3 games in 10 in 2023, but no video on that. There is no respect for the jaguars.

It's never going to be perfect competitive balance. If it was, all games would be played each Sunday at 1pm at a neutral complex of football fields in front of no fans, and everyone would get a Week 10 bye. The NFL is a sport, but it's also a TV show. You have balance that too. And if you're going to feel sorry for someone, Aaron Rodgers isn't the guy.

Aaron Rodgers' Achilles would have popped regardless of the turf. When someone is on your back, especially as you are hunched over, it's a no-go for your Achilles. (See interview with the doctor that was on Pat McAfee)
Not wrong. The jets as a team though have a ton of injuries on bad turf pretty much every season, and everyone that plays on it complains. It’s a bad agreement from both Ny teams owners and property management to save money imo. The irony is that FIFA requires grass for the World Cup so they’re changing the surface for that anyways and probably going back to turf

JETS and GIANTS are both getting screwed over with these schedules. It's all about ratings and $$ screw the teams and fairness of the schedule. It seems like every year it's the same old story and this year it's like they doubled down on giving both teams unfair schedules. Thanks for nothing NFL.

Jets have some good pieces. Top running back. Top receiver. Top defense. Beyond that who knows. I will say this, it doesn't seem to me that Rodgers cares as much about football as he does about his personal views and his fame. In a 40 year old quarterback coming off a significant injury, that's not a good thing. Brady always put football first whatever he was doing to him that was the most important thing.

Plus I don't wanna hear about jets having multiple short weeks bc of Thursday night games when nobody stood up for the Steelers last year who had to Thursday night games and three short weeks last season. Do I think jets should have to do it no but how come no one cares when the Steelers had to do it but bc it's Arron Rodgers now we care? No team should have to do it. And not to mention Steelers last eight games now this year nobody could go that gauntlet and do good it's setting a team up to fail when they are a team that's really a QB away from a Superbowl. The NFL is so goddamn greedy, Thursday night games, overseas games...they have to screw up several teams schedule's just so they can have Christmas games, which is a Wednesday. Like the NBA has already done, and MLB is doing, the NFL is going to destroy itself.
