    SIMPLE AND EASY FIX! Thanks a million, Chris! I watched your video and must've had #2, a blocked or frozen flow tube (freezer was set to 7/7; coldest setting)? I let freezer thaw for just over a half hour with the freezer door open; Ice cube blessings were in the works: the cog then turned and did a full rotation (versus stuck and grinding noise), something clicked, old cubes were spit out, the arm then raised and water turned on and off to fill the "tray." Hallelujah and thank you!! God bless you for having taken the time to share your knowledge with the world. Grateful in WY, ff
    PS I now have freezer set to average coolness.

      No problem, I am glad I could help. You are correct when the refrigerator is set that high, that will definitely cause the fill tube to freeze. We will continue to add videos to help with your appliances and we have a surprise coming soon to make it easier.

    This is a rock solid tutorial and the way this man speaks is fully understandable and it absorbs well.
    I did flood my freezer and shocked myself but we will see if we have ice cubes in a couple of hours.
    If you don't want to shock yourself, then unplug the freezer. If you want a tickle, at least keep 1 hand in your pocket.
    If you don't want to flood your freezer, do not adjust water pressure as your first order of measure. Water pressure also means "Water Level". turning that up will cause the ice maker to over flow. Ask me how I know.

    Great video Chris! I came across your video AFTER I had fixed my ice maker replacing the water valve. However now I'm sometimes getting too much water that runs down the door of my fridge. I've adjusted the screw that controls the water coming in and out of ice maker and I think I finally got it. But I still want to thank you for showing me how to adjust the small cam wheel to get the ice maker to call for water. None of the other videos I've watched ever mentioned this and I probably would have been able to fix my ice maker a lot sooner if I had ran across your video first. I have subscribed to your channel and you will be my first "go too" repairman in the future.

      Hello, You cleaned the ice maker holder. Do you mean the ice bucket? I see you mentioned that you are getting water. However, what type of ice maker do you have? Do you know how to troubleshoot the ice maker or prime it to see if the inlet valve is working? Or you could just troubleshoot the inlet valve with a voltmeter or mult-meter. The only problem with testing the inlet valve is, you can only test it electronically. However, valves can still be defective because they can fail mechanically. Hope that helps.

    Super video! I have a very old style Kenmore refrig. The ice maker stopped making ice. I have checked everything and believe I have a faulty water valve. Old # is 218720300. Wish I knew how to test it with say a multi-meter but don't. I did turn everything off, remove the water line at the valve, made sure it wasn't frozen or clogged. So, figure I have a faulty valve. I watched the gears turn and cycle on the ice maker and so far no water in tray. I'll wait several hours and if no water will order the water valve.
    Thanks again for confirming I went through most of the logical steps. Good job Sir!!

    • @chrisstokes2020
      @chrisstokes2020  Pƙed 5 lety

      Hi, you can test it with your multi-meter by turning it to the lowest setting for ohms of resistance or you can use a meter with tone. Place the leads of your meter on one coil at a time (choose the one for the ice maker). You should get between 500 to 1500 ohms of resistance (or the meter should beep), which means you have continuity. That just means it is good electrically. However, a water inlet valve can fail mechanically (port is not opening or opening partially). HINT: There are shortcuts to find out if it is definitely the inlet valve, but I can give that here (it would NOT be fair to my students). Hope that helps. Thanks

    • @chrisstokes2020
      @chrisstokes2020  Pƙed 6 lety

      Victor, if your refrigerator is making ice, but it will not dispense it through the door. I would suggest that you check a couple of things. First, the ice bucket to make sure it is not frozen at the bottom, this will cause it not to rotate the spindle which sends the ice through the dispenser door. Second, is the "Auger" motor working at all? The "Auger" is the part that (in most refrigerators is behind the ice bucket & looks like a fork) turns the spindle on the ice bucket. If the "Auger" is not turning, you need to find out why. This could be a bad micro switch, defective auger motor, etc. Hope that helps. Thanks Again

      After defrosting the freezer, I discovered the problem was the water filler tube or chute that leads to the ice tray was frozen (the hole). I put everything back together and it's working again, BUT it seems to be taking a lot longer to produce the ice. What could possibly cause this? It's producing a tray (8) once every 2 hours give or take a short time... just seemed to be a lot faster before.

      It sounds like yu have a defective ice maker. If the ice maker does not dump the ice in the tray (before the ice maker cycles again) then when it ready to fill the ice maker again, the water just fill on top of the ice still in the tray. I would replace the ice maker.
      Hope that helps.

    Thanks! I replaced my icemaker before watching and the new one though does ecactly the same as the old, it makes ice like crazy and then takes a couple of days off with none, then it starts working again. Temp is well below required. Wonder what is going on?

    Thanks so much for your video! I’m addicted to ice and usually eat 8 to 10 (22 oz. cups) of crushed ice a day. My problem is my icemaker usually will freeze a new batch of ice within about 20 to 40 minutes, so I’m trying to figure out why it doesn’t fill up the bin overnight? I noticed the temperature was turned down about midway so the ice cream doesn’t get so terribly hard, so I decreased the temperature to the coldest setting since I heard you mention there’s a sensor that won’t produce ice if the temperature setting is too warm. Hopefully that will make a difference., but then again, it makes ice all day just fine. Another issue is that frequently there will be some ice in the bin but I have to manually push it forward because it takes forever to come out of the ice crusher dispenser. I can hear the spindle turning but it’s just not pushing it forward quick enough. Hmmm
any ideas? There’s nothing like an ice addict waiting for that ice to come out! đŸ˜đŸ€Ł For those who might wonder, no I am not anemic. I am frequently asked that since it is sometimes a symptom when a person craves ice. 😄

      I would suggest a couple of solutions for your ice maker issues. 1. Most refrigerator freezers need to be about 15 degrees or less to make ice. 2. If it is making ice only during the day (which is strange), I would definitely check the temperature inside the freezer.
      Also, about taking too long to dispense the ice from the ice bin, you need to remove the ice bin and dump the ice into a bowl. Then take a good look inside the ice bin & at the spindle (the arm that sends the ice to the dispenser) and ensure it is not cracked or ice frozen in the base.
      Lastly, a sporadic ice maker usually means the ice maker is about to stop working and will need to be replaced. That is if EVERYTHING has been checked (ie fill tube, temperature in freezer, etc.).
      Hope that help.
      Thanks Again & Be Blessed

    Thanks Chris, I turned the small cam and water started filling the ice tray. Unfortunately the water did not stop and over the filled the ice tray and went all over the freezer. I then turned the screw to the negative position and water still came over the tray. Went down the basement and turned water off from there. The inlet valve was calling for water, a buzzing sound. Turned the small cam again to the left and it stopped buzzing. Any idea what I did wrong?

      Glad we could help with repairing your ice maker and Thanks for the positive comment. If the ice is falling out of the ice bin. Is it because it is making too much ice then you and your family is able to use. If so, you can solve this issue by; turning off the ice maker when the bin is about 3/4 full. Some ice makers have an adjustment option too slow the ice maker down. However, most people just turn the ice maker off when they have enough ice and then turn it back on when the ice bucket is getting low.
      Hope that helps.

    I removed the ice maker in order to access the evaporator. After installing it back the ice maker is working but making ice only one time. The arm goes up when the ice is falling into the container but does not make ice again.

    • @chrisstokes2020
      @chrisstokes2020  Pƙed 3 lety

      Was it working before you removed the ice maker to access the evaporator fan motor? If so, I check all connections... first. Then try to test/cycle ice maker, check the fill tube for blockage and the inlet valve. If that doesn't work, it sounds like you have a defective ice maker and needs to be replaced.
      Hope that helps.

    Hey Chris, I’ve got an older Kenmore 363 series side by side. If I hook up the wiring harness for the door water valve to the ice maker valve, I can force it to fill, and once it’s filled, it will make ice.
    It doesn’t seem to be calling for water, even though I’ve confirmed that the valve is functioning and the ice maker will make ice.

    Idk if this will be responded to in time, but the ice maker isn't getting water at all to make ice. The bar that raises and lowers is loose. The line has water in it, but no water is coming though. If I use a flat head to turn the dial, will that help? Or is the bar thing just broken? It doesn't stay up at all and when you try to lift the bar up, it just falls.

      You need to ensure that the arm is inserted correctly (check the arm for proper installation). How to reset? Is going to be determine by what type of ice maker you have. But, again if it was working before you uninstalled it. The problem will mostly likely be that the arm is not installed correctly.

    Our ice maker works sporadically. My husband tried resetting the little button inside, but that didn’t make a difference. My ice maker is in the freezer, so I think that rules out reason #1. Perhaps reason #5 could cause intermittent work?
