I would have assumed it was alien just by the sheer amount of alloys dug up. The precious metal skeletal remains would have clinched it. Then seeing an orb coalesce out of pieces of metal would have caused me to call the frikken government. In the old days, human beings weren't very metaphorical. In fact they were quite literal. Those stones will the etchings were definitely a warning.
Doctor Hawkins kind of looks like George Clooney.
