- In this inspirational series, Sarah Beeny sets out to prove that anyone can have the home they've always dreamed about, even if they can't afford to buy it. Rather than making the expensive decision to move house, it may be cheaper to turn your run-down property into the home of your dreams!

The cheapest way to double the size of your home is to vigorously de-clutter the place! Just imagine how much most people spend just to have enough space to store their junk they hardly ever use!
I love throwing things out or donating them. My husband, however, hangs onto things. It's very frustrating.
China was clever in making tonnes of plastic crap for you spend on impulse....just a few pounds at a time.
“A house is just a place to keep your stuff while you go out and get more stuff.” George Carlin
I agree totally.
I hate throwing things out when cannot be repurposed or donated as they fill the landfills up, so I buy less stuff and with multiple purposes.
My house is 30sqm..and we have a lot of space...its just matter of decluttering and organization..also helps being minimalist..i dont like storing things i dont really use
I honestly think this is in the top 6 shows on You Tube. I love how you teach your clients, and in doing so help them avoid costly mistakes! You could just tell them, but by showing them examples, you are able to get their own creative juices flowing!
I enjoy this show and have nothing negative to say about the people or the design. 😁
I would have liked to have seen the "cellar rooms" from the outside, what it looked like from the garden.
They got the IVF :)
Wonderful! Did they have just one more child? Girl or boy?
I've mentioned this on other episodes: Don't ever think of your house as your "forever home" because life happens. It's a lot less traumatic to move on if you think of your home as your "house."
I had a really hard time leaving my first "forever home" because my emotions were so wrapped up in it. I still felt homesick even after building and moving into another very beautiful custom home 25 miles away. I would still drive back to my old neighborhood to look at my first "forever home."
I made sure I thought of this second home as a "house' or a very nice rental. After four years there we sold it a few months ago and have moved into a smaller, older and less expensive house. I've had zero upset over the move. I no longer pine over my first house. It's finally in the past. Thank goodness.
Now I'm having fun refreshing the interior of our "new" old house.
You'll just save yourself a lot of heartache if you don't tie up all of your emotions within the four walls of a house.
Moving 25 miles doesn’t seem like it was forced.
That’s why some houses become haunted. Because when a family member dies, their soul & emotions are still attached to it.
I love this show. I love British TV
"We thought we were going to do a simple basement conversion..." Ha!!! THERE IS NO SUCH THING!! ... I love it.
Please get rid of all your junk before deciding to add on to your house!. The couple with one baby had a three bedroom house to start with. Why was his desk/office in the kitchen and not in one of the bedrooms? Even if they had another kid, the had enough bedrooms. The could use another bathroom but the rest probably not.
I've been thinking a little bit along your lines, but it's more about what the interior looks like at present. If I knew my home was going to be on television with 10s of thousands of viewers I'd make sure my house was very tidy and clean. The IVF homeowner has messes in her rooms. Some people on other shows are messy, too. You'll see the same messes in houses that are listed for sale. Maybe this is tidy and clean for them and it was a lot worse before the house was filmed.
I see at the end that she's kept her new extension neat and clean. Good for her!
Nothing wrong with the detached house it just needs a new bathoom and kitchen.
I love these old episodes, thank you for posting, and having written that I have to add: I dislike the many, many commercials 😖

How old are these episodes? Was wondering to compare with today’s prices.

✨💖✨I love what these two young families have done to keep/make their houses their dream homes. I wish them many happy years. One thought I have. Swapping the front “grownup space” with the play space was genius on several levels. It is a cozy space, secure and more easily baby proofed. Later, play dates in there while parents have coffee at the bar. And as the twixt and tween and teen years come barreling along, a “private” yet safe place (read supervised) space kids crave. But at the very gut level, I’m a practical person. All those beautiful double windows and doors with all that beautiful gleaming glass will have fewer little hand prints, nose prints, lick marks expressing whatever artistic mood happens upon babies and doggos alike. (Written with love by the mom who was thankful for every little finger and nose print. But I was also the one who cleaned them. lol)
it's motivating to tell others with old houses to make changes in their lifestyle not by breaking but renovating.
excellent ideas both from home owners , interior designers n real estate agents.

The transformations on the budgets were amazing, but I couldn't help notice that when Sarah was doing her wind-up at Rob and Beth's house, she was standing in front of the exterior which badly needs repointing. If they don't get that sorted, they might have to star in Sarah's Help, My House is Falling Down show next.
seen. Love this show! Baby (brunette) is GORGEOUS!!!!! BOTH Homes stunning!!!! WELL DONE!
I'm with Sarah, I hate breakfast bars so much.
I need to be on this show to have a baby😅
bro the baby in this is not 9 and in my gymnastics class💀😭
Now*
it was a beautiful house after renovated indeed. I learned a lot.
Love Sarah 🥰
She's my girlfriend 💑
You just need a little bit mopping and clear that clutter that's it 😅🤣😅
LOVE that Prism basement window! But I have to say that the black wet room isn't my favourite having had an all black bathroom myself at one point in time, and I got real tired of it real fast, even so I hope they continue to like it.
I wonder how much time these couples then really spend in their luxurious master bedrooms, other than 7 hours at night? How many times do they use the bath tub in the corner? I haven‘t watched this episode yet, but that‘s usually one of the results…
@23:05 Her comment “it’s going to be Flippin hot in here in the summer” made me laugh. England is not known for hot summers. 😆
How is a 3 bedroom house with a dining room a starter home?
In the USA it is, apparently.
In the US How big is a starter home? There's no hard-and-fast definition of a starter, or entry-level, home but two bedroom - or a small three-bedroom- about 800 square feet up to 1500 sq feet.
So were they able to add another bathroom in the basement? It wasn’t shown..
Both great transformation!
Interesting that so many Brits are willing to give up their garage. No way would I give up mine.
Sadly, most garages in the UK weren't made to accommodate newer cars, thus making most garages redundant.
@@jayneftgbros8774 so true the garages in the UK are teeny tiny.
@@jayneftgbros8774 absolutely right. Our garage is from the 50s and is so tiny you can hardly park a mini in.
More than half of people in the US don't use the garage to park a car. It is almost always full to the top with stuff or converted into a closed up room.
@@vaderladyl That’s true. I also converted our garage into a home office. It used to be a storage space & was never used to park our car since we have a long driveway anyway. Now during the pandemic, I even spend more time in there than our house.
Call me crazy but I would have done the ivf first and seen if I actually needed a bigger house.
Call me crazy...but I think one kid enough...get a job if you just want to keep yourself busy 😂
@@shilpaparmar8866 call me crazy but its not your life or your dream
There is a lot of wasted space in that house with the furniture placement and the clutter.
Hate the wallpaper in the living room. It makes the space look smaller than if it had just been painted white.
Open plan living; lovely in the warm sunny weather but through winter and with heating costs??
Instant 150 or more square feet - buy a clothes dryer.
Sarah is lovely 😍
I always find it so surprising how many people on these programs embark on a "super stressful building project" & then surprise! Get pregnant unexpectedly. My word one massive stressful life event at a time gosh damn it!
That light well ( the window with the mirrors) is amazing....I tried to see if its available in Canada and I cant find it anywhere.
They are quite popular - did you contact window companies?
@@tamielizabethallaway2413 That doesn't have the mirrors
@Lydia McLaughlin : Here is the exact product
heliobus.com/en/products/daylight-shaft
Not sure about distribution to Canada but they do supply USA. You will need to contact them.
@@tamielizabethallaway2413 In your own quote you write: "explaining in brackets she meant the window with mirrors"
I have furnished her with a link to the correct product
@@tamielizabethallaway2413 You don't come across to me as being very kind. You do, however come across as very judgemental, of me, of what Lydia meant and what "the rest of us" think.
No matter what year, Brits always have a feature wall with ugly wallpaper the every room. Ugh! I like using a double sided bookcase that separates the large space. Doggie tub waste on space and money.
Under floor heating is a big waste of money . Buy more SOCKS.
It's not just about the cosy toes. It's cheaper to heat, as it runs on lower temperature, hence more environmentally friendly. No need for radiators taking up wall space. Heat spreads evenly throughout and there is less chance of condensation on windows increasing humidity, because there is no convection/ air circulation heating you get with radiators.
Such a big mistake now that heating costs have spiralled
Double the size of the kitchen sink by taking out the bloody plastic bowl. Why do the British do that FFS? It's a sink.Use it!
What is it about the English and plastic tubs in the kitchen sink??? They do know kitchen sinks hold water??
The couple with the apartment didn't consider the possibility of another baby then....boom! They should sell in my opinion.
They doubled their flat from two bedrooms to four. That should be plenty for adding more children.
Did I miss the bathroom in the basement conversion?
green solutions > more children
decluttering and smart storage > big building projects
So don't have children and help the gene pool
Where is all his sporting and gym equipment now ? Also where’s the office? It’s all very well making these improvements but functionality and practicalities are not always factored in ?
They added 2 bedrooms which weren't shown, so I guess in there
And they lost the garage..
It seems most people with young children insist on making a separate playroom that these children will eventually grow out of. Such wasted space.
Not so sure about the basement, it is a great conversion but where is the new baby going? Are they going to put the toddler upstairs while the parents are in their new master downstairs???
The doubled house was great!!
Do agree that decluttering can certainly free up space. For instance, look at how many toys those two little girls had. Way more than they could every play with. Just saying....
They had a bedroom for the toddler right next door to the main bedroom.
If they would get rid of a lot of their junk...
No safety hard hats when lifting the steel beam 😮 I would have sacked the lot of them!
Hard hat wont do much if the beam was to drop... 😂
I bet you’re one of them “Look mommy, look at what he’s doing!”
Lol at "A house like this is worth 400.000" :)
Depends entirely on where it is.
This was filmed around 2012.
Damp room is not an ideal place to steep.
i wish we would get an update if they had another child (God willing, would so hope for them)
40:50 - whaaaattt??? That old, floral wallpaper looks horrid and inappropriate in that addition. And then they added a black and modern wallpaper. Great construction, they definitely need help of an interior designer. Hope they change it.
Love the show,but....that creepy intro reminds me of the serial killer who taped the weird manikin, please 🛑
For a single woman living in a 2 bedroom housing home today I can say I would not share it or give it up amen ⭐ amen ⭐ amen ⭐that's know LIE⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💜
(Oh! The OTHER couple got pregnant! ... In Astrology, babies and homes share the 4th house. It would be fun to look at the charts of all the people who, while re-doing their homes, 'fell pregnant'! It seems like a very common occurrence).
I guess I will be doubling on my birth control.
@@vaderladyl Hey! WHAT? No! ... Good luck! (Just talk to your future babies and ask them to WAIT!! Or tell them the kitchen is closed!)

They need to change the architect give the chance to other one that way it’s not always the same guys ;(
I agree, but hopefully 8 years on it’s worked out for them 😉😁
900 square feet isn't enough for a family of 3 (or 4 or even 5)?How much space do they need to be satisfied? This is called GREED!
I’m sorry, how can they be surprised they’re pregnant!!??!!
30:00 so he put his families future at risk because he wanted an "eco" system? What kind of man doesnt put his family and their future first?
@@zahria - I sincerely hope you have neither a wife, nor children.
@@sherunswithscissors So so - why would you think that, may i ask?
I was happyly ma4r7ed until my husband died of cancer. My children are happy and creative and independent,
Maybe due to the fact that they where able to enter the living room and all other rooms for that matter?
I also have grandchildren. A happy bunch.,
And i am old enough to see whennan attitude stinks to high heavens.
They should have built the ecological heating system along with better insulation, that would be a good investment into the future of the kids. In the long run you safe a lot of money for gas or oil. If it would have been my house I would have safed on furniture and other things, maybe postponed one of the bathrooms, and then this would have fit in the budget. As an architect I can say that this is a classical case on not doing the planning in the right order. You should get your priorities straight and know the cost of it before you even think of starting the building process. If the budget is too small for what you want, then you can simply reduce the project, until it fits. And yes, the cost of an architect might be worth it.
