I never heat a pop tart; I always eat them right out of the package. Toaster strudels are much better tasting, but they have to be heated and you cannot eat them on the go (you need to wash your hands afterwards). Also, pop tarts have a much better presence in the grocery store. They have a huge display with a lot of flavors to choose from. These are the reasons why pop tarts are more popular, even though toaster strudels are actually better.
Exactly!
100%
I used to heat the Pop-Tart, then put it in the fridge until it was cold.
Yeah, apples and oranges, man. You can take a walk while eating an apple, you have to wash your hands and have a trash available to eat an orange. If you put as much effort into eating that apple, slapping peanut butter (or whatever) on there, the apple wins every time at that point when you put them on the same level of effort.
Speaking the truth.
oof you know it was a late night when you're still awake to see a 'fresh out of the oven' mythical kitchen upload
I had a nightmare and now I'm awake. I never get to watch in the morning, feels good
Fun fact, here in Hawaii oof is slang for having sex with someone lol
@@OmgWtfTsujican you use it in a sentence plz?
In this conversation, you guys only seemed to address two possible factors as to why Pop Tarts outsell Toaster Strudels: the taste and the marketing. However, I think the biggest reason why Toaster Strudels will never match Pop Tarts in sales is that Toaster Strudels have to be kept frozen before cooking, and they also require the consumer to put on their own icing. Convenience and laziness almost always win out.
I WAS THINKING THAT! And the variety of pop tarts also is a huuuuuuuge marketing tactic that is unmatched there is endless flavors, toaster strudel has like maybe 3
I was thinking similar. I like toaster strudel more, but i mostly tend to eat pop tarts because they're shelf stable and you don't even need a toaster. I honestly prefer pop tarts room temp rather than hot.
@alyx2781 I think the only reason there are so many pop tart flavors is because of how popular they are. If toaster strudels were more popular they'd put more effort into making new varieties.
Pop Tarts are just a less labor intensive product to prepare (depending how you choose to prepare them or not). Eat them straight out of the package, toaste em, don't. The choice is yours. Toaster Strudel as you said has to be kept frozen, have to be toasted, apply your own icing, more messy, less flavors. Not to mention my nostalgia. Pop Tarts win.
Nicole mentions this @21:49 (re: shelf stable vs. frozen)
@@EscapeFromPost - Ah, thanks. I posted my comment before hearing the whole thing.
Nicoles "get me a towel" line is one of my favorite jokes ever on this show 😂😂😂
@leviwhite3381 but it was ALSO a joke, because semen.
@@SamSphinx I was debating saying anything because the innocence was too pure 🤣
@@leviwhite3381Jesus lol
Toaster strudels are an elevated culinary experience. Pop tarts are great in their own right, but they’re like Subway white chocolate macadamia nut cookie great. Toaster Strudel is god tier.
I am a child of the 70's and to me PopTarts was always space food in my head. Space food was always popular like Tang.
Now I want a Tang Pop-Tart.
i would love to see a mythical kitchen episode where they attempt to make dishes without one of their main ingredients (for example, We Make Mac & Cheese Without The Cheese)
Honestly yes please 😂🤣
Your going to get mac and mayo. But mac and mustard might be good.
Idk why i read this as “i would love to see an episode where they wash dishes”
That exists it’s called pasta 😅
I forgot toaster strudels were a thing. Always preferred pop tarts, but they're not quite the same thing to begin with.
love toaster strudel. i‘ve felt weird about poptarts ever since my chemical engineering professor told us that the icing they use could almost be considered a plastic compound
Love how Nicole's like "Man, a Boutique pop tart would be great. If only someone made one." meanwhile they literally have a show about doing just that.
Unsung heroes, the frozen pop tart, or toasted pop tart with butter
Freezing a Poptart is so underrated
For nostalgia purposes a Pop-Tart but for actual taste and deliciousness obviously a toaster strudel
toaster strudels are garbáge
Pop-Tarts are also garbage. 👍🏻
gotta love a late night where you're still up when mythical kitchen drops a new video lol
Oh I just love the Doughboy line. Couldn't tell you how many times someone said that shite to me as a kid. Super funny.
Toast both. Stab holes in both. Add butter. Frosting on pop tarts
Toaster strudel and pop-tarts are 2 different products….. toaster strudel are like danish type products…. pop-tarts are like a cereal bar. I keep both in my house. Also got remember toaster strudel has the scrambler thing
They mentioned the scrambler thing. Did you not listen?
This is the kind of conversation I've needed since I was 10. I am 35 now.
Great conversation! Frosted Strawberry Pop Tarts are classic. The Smores Pop Tarts is the most delicious. Pop Tarts are more appealing than Toaster Strudels because they can be eaten both toasted and untoasted. Even though Toaster Strudels are fancier than Pop Tarts, but they are definitely less popular because of the storage and preparation required.
I think there is a artisanal pop tart out there. The comedian, Bert Kreischer mentions how one of his fans brought some for him to one of his shows in a podcast. He said they were one of the best things he had eaten.
I love pop tarts occasionally. Years ago. When you could still buy unfrosted strawberry pop tarts in canada, you can only buy the frosted kind here now. So my vote goes to the strudles because they give you the option of adding the glaze or not
The required cooling time of toaster strudel is a lesson in patience that is much needed in the world of raising children in the modern era, but also I will say my child would consider a pop tart lava hot for a good several minutes as well.
The only time I've purchased Pop Tarts in the last five years was the Banana Bread version reviewed on Sporked, and it was great. Shout out to Sporked!
Josh waring a vended shirt just made my day. Slipknot fans are proud. Even better than the disturbed down with the sickness reference
Please do an episode on the kitchen channel making pop tarts/ strudels battle vs each other
We didn't start getting toaster strudel until I was in middle school, then we always had them. Often a couple types of pop-tarts as well.
Pop tarts are more iconic but toaster strudel is definitely better.
They killed my favorite poptart variety the cookie dough one was awesome out of the toaster like a gooey cookie😊
Loved the choc chip cookie dough… was sad to see it go
Two bakeries at my farmers market sell hand pies, some frosted (literally fancy pop tarts) … and others are closer to galettes… but ugh, even from scratch they just don’t hold a candle to softer pastries. If I am gonna get something mass produced, the only things I can think of, both apple, are Pepperidge Farm apple danishes (cheese ones exist but I don’t like em) and a Trader Joe’s kind called apple blossoms that can both be microwaved or put in toaster ovens (I like the 30sec microwave option-truly lazy)
Now someone is getting towels for Christmas, lots of them. Great video everyone.
It’s also a pretty important fact that one you can eat right off of the shelves and the other is FROZEN
This was literally the subject of a speech I had to give in high school English (subject of my own choice)
Put butter on a toasted pop tart...life changing
I'm curious about pricing having an effect on sales but a quickly search they seem around the same price
Toaster Scramblers takes both of these out!! They were my go-to breakfast in high school. Also, I once explained to a 23 yr old coworker who never knew that Pop Tarts were designed to go in the toaster.
I can't even eat a Pop Tart cold...that gross cold shortening afterglow is enough to make me nope out every single time.
toasted pop tart + milk is solid gold. genuinely, milk cranks it up ~5 extra notches, whether it's wildberry or brown sugar cinnamon. it does way more for them than for oreos or chocolate chip cookies.
Pop-Tarts are good Hot and Cold, but Toaster Strudel are good warm only IMO.
Exactly
I rarely eat either, but toaster strudel is better taste wise, hands down. Poptarts are more convenient though.
3:06
It's true. Keep a towel or wet wipes near by
When you mentioned that the strudel icing helps keep kids busy doodling and Josh said something about marking on a pop tart with a sharpie…I had a flash of a memory that pop tart actually tried a version with some sort of edible crayon to draw on the pastry.
Okay, just googled it. It’s a real memory! They were called Pop Tarts Doodlers. They came with a marker filled with food coloring.
LOVE Blazing Saddles! Definitely not played enough, out of fear!!!
Nicole I relate my mom wouldn't let us have frosted pop tarts but she had no problem letting us have toasted strudel with frosting 🤷🏻♀️🙄🤣
I remember the crazy good ads. Toaster strudels taste so much better and because of that I prefer those but I haven't had either in forever.
My favorite part is when Nicole counters Josh's argument by restarting his argument, haha
Chocolate pop tarts raw is my childhood
Whoa, Josh's hair is reversed today! Digging the longer flow on top
Loving Josh's Vended T-shirt. I'm seeing them next month with Bullet. Corey Taylor has great genetics.
So does Shawn, as his kid is also in the band
When I was in the Army i would buy brown sugar and cinnamon pop-tarts to take to the field. I would pack a lot and sell them to privates who didn't have the experience in the field and profit.
How can you say that they're competing when they aren't even in the same aisle.
I will always love the toaster strudel, I grew up eating them and only tried a pop tart a year or so ago. I say pop tarts are good for a quick and easy snack/on the go snack, but toaster strudels are definitely my favorite still
Poptarts 100% needs to reformulate their base pastry. For example, the smores flavor with the graham cracker pastry is wonderful. It’s possible for it to taste good. But for whatever reason, they keep the cardboard pastry.
out the door, pop tarts. out of the cupboard, from the box, grab a packet and go. vending machines have them. they are able to be in more spaces than a toaster strudel.
on the weekends, open the freezer, grab a strudel, toast it, goop it, and enjoy. time constraints really do have an impact on sales, imho.
Regarding 99 luftballoons from a GenX who lived through "duck and cover" and The Day After: Heard that song once and I was all "That's catchy...I wonder what they're saying". Then I found out and the song terrifies me to this day
The only reason I don't eat poptarts is because I break out on my skin from them. Otherwise, I'd be all over the variety of flavors, & they're so easy to eat and heat all the way. Toaster strudels are absolutely delicious but they're so greasy and when on the go, if heated in the microwave, the center has a harder time getting to the right temperature for consumption!
A sandwich is two slices of bread with meat in the middle and a hot dog bun is a singular pice of bread so it’s more of a loafwich
Josh and Nicole, an analogy for them is Pop Tarts are like road cookies and the Toaster Strudel is more of a home made cookie feel
Giving kids you are trying to shut up before school a sticky mess waiting to happen has got to be one of the stupidest ideas ever….
Brown Sugar Pop Tarts are great for on the go snacking. I never heat them. I dont eat the Toaster Strudels due to effort and mess. However, the savory counterpart the Scramblers, are culinary delicacies and I love them crisped up in the oven. 😅
Almost 10 out of 10 I would say toaster strudels for the win in my case, however, if someone were to give me a warmed up pop tarts with ice cream on top, i would have to lean into that route. I guess it depends if I'm eating it as a quick breakfast or a dessert in itself
It's kinda like if you're willing to put in the extra work/time for toaster strudels it's most definitely worth it and it's definitely the superior treat. But if you aren't then you can get pop tarts and while they are the worse of the two you would still be satisfied with it
Josh and his amazing band shirts ❤
Toaster strudels compete with eggos and ice cream in the frozen aisle. Pop tarts compete with cookies or cakes.
The coke and Pepsis equivalent debate for toaster pastries
One time at my grandpa's funeral I ate a poptart out of the trash, nobody was looking and it was still sealed
A cafe I like makes fancy poptarts and I have paid $5.75 for them more than once when I was running late and hungry
Totally agree with Nicole.....not substitute goods, despite Toaster Strudel's intentions.
As a kid, I always preferred Pop-Tarts over toaster strudel.. I wasn't into the jelly filling.. still feel that way
The toaster scrambles are what's up
I love Nicole
I am a proud Pop-tart stan. Preferably cherry flavor, they're great warm or cold. 🍒 The icing just hits. The pastry is crumbly. Toaster studels are too oily, messy. I need my pastry to be on-the-go capable.
The best Pop Tart is one out of a vending machine! They're completely different than the store bought ones because they don't expect a buyer to have access to a toaster. They pastry is much lighter, the frosting is more frosting like than dried frosting, there's more filling, and the filling is more like jam than flavored damp sugar that needs to be heated to soften up. There are also some interesting international flavors out there that R&L could toss darts at a map to guess. Dunno if it's still available but tangerine was only available in New Zealand (It's spoiler is okay, Link will miss the map).
I'm 28 years old and never put pop tarts in a toaster til like 3 years ago. I always microwaved them
Are we gonna just ignore the fact that we used to just go balls to the wall eating totinos pizza rolls, despite the molten lava, like we wouldn't just do the same with the toaster strudels?
Don't Forget Pop Tart Apple Cinnamon Pastry Swirls!!
Kellog Danish Ring looks like a cinnamon sugar-coated Little Debbie's Honey Bun.
Well have had PTs forever ( vintage of age ) prefer TS because I want real frosting. And actually the best PT is a non-PT which is/was Toast’ems which did do all the frostings but have SUGAR all over the top. Sugar + hot toaster = Yum!!!
Telescope is a banging song 💯
Big plus on Pop tarts vs. Strudels is no freezer space needed. People have either Small or just fully loaded freezers. Not me, But I have friends with not a smidge of freezer space.
*Some People have either
did u guys know that poptarts (speciifically the strawberry ones) are a leading cause of house fires? back in the day my then GF's mom burned the house down when the poptarts started a fire in the kitchen and the firemen told us it happens all the time
Mailbox money 😂
Strudels has no marketing. Not to mention I HAVE to cook them where pop tarts are good to go
I wonder if Josh has tried the protein pop tarts
I like, and eat, both. However, there is one way I like to eat toaster strudel that I have never done with pop tarts: hot, with vanilla ice cream. Almost like a piece of pie.
Like the Major Payne reference.
Legally in California a hot dog is a sandwich
Hot thick pocket of love....that's what they called me in high school
I grew up on Toaster Strudels since I was 7, and so I've always had nostalgia tied to it, on top of finding it absolutely delicious. I didn't have my first Pop Tart till I was 16, and it just felt so off in texture and taste. Yeah Strudels are annoying to warm up, but they're much more satisfying to eat.
Must be nice being rich.
I miss the Magic Burst pop-tart
Anyone remember the peanut butter pop tarts? They need to bring those back
Nicole is 99.9% Puresian
I love you Josh bit nope, you gotta include the breakfast Toaster Strudels, the bacon egg and cheese Toaster Strudel is the one frozen breakfast item I'd take over anything else
WAIT WHAT
Morning guys n gals
The Kellog corp was started by the brother of the yogurt enema guy.
Fantasy fast food episode Pop-Tart in the future?
Hello, from one of your 4 persian listeners 👋
I hope you bring opinions are like casseroles back to the video podcast at some point 😢
Do gushers vs fruit roll-ups Edit: and possibly fruit by the foot as a 3rd competitor
Toaster Scrambles are the only 'breakfast pastry' I actually like....I'll eat other kinds but I'm not a huge fan of fruity Pop Tarts or Toaster Struedels... I was hoping they'd be mentioned or in the running, but I can see how it might be unfair since there aren't savory Pop Tarts to compete against.
The toaster strudel is better. If sales determined what food is best, then burgers are better than filet mignon.
So true
Josh is wearing a Vended shirt lol
Nicole I’m 99.5% Persian too!!😂
