We may not be making big progress on our floating cabin remodel, but we still got a few interesting things done this week on our own houseboat & on our friends'. Boat life, even with all of the associated maintenance, will always be worth it to us. SO grateful for this beautiful lake we get to call home.

Our dock is over 120 years old.
Old growth logs...it used to hold my Granny's cabin on it when it was a houseboat. The cabin got pulled up onto land and added onto by a bunch of drunken men on the weekends.
The wharf was starting to get waterlogged so we resurfaced her and added blue plastic barrels to lift her up. Absolutely brilliant and so easy.
My floating wetlands and log booms have barrels under them too if they need a lift.
Love the joy you have in everything you do. My dog Lily watches Iko and occasionally runs at the TV barking and wagging her tail. So cute

You have a beautiful home and thanks for keeping Fontana Lake so clean back in the day when my parents used to go there my Dad had to dodge the trash in the lake and yes we should have cleaned it up

Have you thought about a swim ramp for Aiko off of the house? She could jump off the deck and walk back on. I love watching her swim.
yes! 🥰 we’ve wanted to install one for a long time but our dock sits several feet out of the water, wayyy higher than standard docks, and we are having to work with a company to get one custom-made for a dock this tall. Hopefully one day! haha
Put a bar of Irish spring soap in a net bag and hang it by your door and it will keep the flies away. Not sure if it works there but here in AZ it works like a charm. You can also rub the soap around your door and window frames and it keeps them away. The scent irritates the flys and they disappear

I loved kidding you guys last week about being lazy and you responded with a perfect come back! Thank you! But I can emphasize with Brandon because I used the same bead board in our kitchen when I renovated it and I still look at the imperfections and wish I had done a better job. But then I think that’s just part of the process of doing. It’s the perfection of the big picture and your life together that really matters! Like my wife and me ! T&C!

Another great video. We get a lot of flies and they gather on a in whatever window which has the most light, and my wife vacuums them up easily. She says they don't come back out so maybe the ride through the hose does them in.
Interesting how those floats are added. Wow, they are pricey! I bet that's going to be your biggest expense on your rehab home but I'm sure it will pay off in the long run. Your new sign is pretty! And has great dimension...lol.
yes that will definitely be our biggest expense besides the original cost of the house itself. definitely worth it, especially if it helps the old styrofoam floats currently under it to not end up trashing the lake! 🙏

Use the 1x2 as a "picture" hanger board like they did back in the 1800's. You use a decorative hook with wax coated wire to hang all your picture frames from, that way no one will know there's a seam there and it'll look deliberate as your decoration, and the best part about it is you never have to put holes in your paneling. Every picture you hand can be adjusted to what ever height you desire and it'll look great. The reason you wax the wire is so it coats it to prevent it from rusting. Coat the wire with hot wax so it gets between all the strands. I learned this trick when I was working at the FT. Myers, Florida Edison & Ford Winter Estates as a volunteer Christmas Decorator's helper. You'd be surprised at how mush that one little thin strip of wood covers up, yet looks so sophisticated because of the consistently hung photos and portraits even they vary in height. It adds charm to every room as well. Happy floating yall!

Are there floating houses that can be rented for a week for vacation? I'd love to come for a week next summer
They rent out the floating house they lived in before building this new one. Not sure where you find it to rent it out though. Either VRBO or AirBnB.
We used to have one but are in the process of selling it! There is 1 other on this lake, it’s on VRBO. Lots of floating rentals on Norris lake

Theft has never been an issue, our last house didn’t even have a lock haha. We’ve just started trying to be a little more cautious lately due to the # of people that see our videos. Never know who’s watching & what their intentions could be.
