It called shrimp paste and its made with very tiny shrimp, same as the dried shrimp you rehydrate. Both is used for the extra umami flavour that it gives, the paste has a very pungent smell. So the tip is don't smell just use it,. comes in a little pink container in the Asian section of the supermarket, or in any Asian grocery store. And comes in a little bag inside the container. keep in the fridge when opened

I don’t get using all those healthy vegetables and poisoning them with tens of thousands of mg of sodium (from the shrimp paste), sugar and usually oil from frying.
Every recipe is overloaded with salt, sugar and oil.
    This conglomeration was especially unappealing.

I love seeing all the fresh, healthy ingredients they use, but I'm genuinely concerned about their long term health. The daily use of soybean oil, sugar, and msg (in the chicken soup powder) is dangerous. I get that it's their way of doing things, but those things can wreak havoc on your body.

Do they look like they're suffering from obesity? How many girls her age can climb trees with small branches blowing in the wind to pick up fruit and make delicious smoothies or even split open coconuts? They eat a lot of fresh fruits and meat not poisoned with pesticides or processed. We are creatures of fast food franchises too lazy to make our own meals. Lets not judge other cultures who may find our way of living extreme yet do not judge us. Just saying...

You should speak for yourself. Firstly, I was raised on a farm. We ate our own meat, vegetables and fruit we grew. My family hunted, we fished and lived like what you today call, “off the grid”.
No obesity in my family or my children. I’m nearing 60 and can still climb a tree, just have to be more careful.
Try not judging all Americans simply because you may have been raised on fast food and are obese and possibly raise your kids the same.
There was a time when this country lived the way my family did, but thank lazy progressiveness for the issues of today.
Back to Sros and her family. I don’t give a hoot if she eats the best foods, all this sodium, sugar and other crap they put in their food WILL catch up with them.
Look at the more “hearty” women in their markets. I call that pretty obese.
