  • WELCOME to a Wandering Scholar production; To all my subscribers, it is my pleasure to see you back !
In the summer of 2021, after over a year living in China due to COVID induced border restrictions, it is now finally the time for me to depart Shanghai and resume my role as an itinerant scholar.
On my journey from Shanghai to New York, I have chosen to flying via Zurich and Istanbul. I was able to redeem Lifemiles for the Swiss and Turkish Airlines flight which is an incredible deal given the skyrocketed price departing China due to the government imposed flight restrictions.
Swiss is only allowed to operate a once weekly flight to China and on my flight business class had a 90% occupancy. The inflight service onboard Swiss is consistent with Pre-COVID standard. This gives the airline a huge advantage over its peers when it comes to long haul flight as I was completely underwhelmed by Lufthansa’s business class service when flying transatlantic shortly after this flight.
Since COVID-19, Swiss’ has deployed its flagship 777-300ER on its Shanghai flight. The 777 contains Swiss’ latest cabin product with a three cabin layout (First Class, Business Class, Economy Class).
If you enjoy my video, please go to INSTAGRAM and follow【wandering_scholar】to watch live travel stories and to interact with me, a 19 years old frequent flyer from Shanghai.
Before you depart, the best way for you to support me should you wish to follow me on my scholarly journey in the world of aviation is by simply clicking the subscribe button and thumbs up. An inadvertent click keeps the content stick ~
It has been a pleasure and I cannot wait for our next departure

Great video! Nice to see you back out on the longhaul international flights. Thanks for sharing your experience on Swiss. I'm glad to see they are maintaining their service standards during the pandemic. I miss international flying so much. Looking forward to seeing more videos!

Thanks for a nice video. Welcome back. Your English accent with a lilt of Chinese is interesting. In addition, your diction and vocabulary are both excellent.

What seats do you recommend for 2 people traveling together in Business on Boeing 777? Can you use the 1st class bathrooms when in Rows 4 & 5?

Delightful! I paid 70K United miles plus USD $149 for a throne seat - seat 4A - in the 777-300 mini cabin. It was well worth it!

It’s great to fly internationally again, wasn’t it? Although they used a 777, there weren’t many people taking this flight. I agree with you about breakfast, as a Vietnamese, I’m not a fan of Western breakfast either. I’m totally fine with breakfast on Asian carriers though, because they do serve an asian style meal.

  • @sinbatsiraseranant1241

I feel the same way. Can't have eggs and bacon every morning when there are so much more Asian breakfast food available. A bit underwhelming for snack/food between meal services. Must have been affected by the Pandemic.

As for me I prefer to fly with Asian airlines. I am the type of Asian whose stomach won't feel full and satisfied if I have not eaten an Asian meal :-). Also in general I prefer the service by Asian cabin crew as they tend to take that extra mile to give you the personal touch. I also like the Gulf carriers. I have flown Swiss many times. Service is acceptable but nothing special.
