  • It’s a shame Dyson’s alleged 600 mile range electric SUV was unable to come to fruition.
All media and copyrights go to Dyson. I just wanted to see this ambitious project become a reality.

I admire James Dyson for trying to solve a problem but I really admire that he can admit defeat. It demonstrates how hard it is to engineer and build a car and make it profitable enough to keep the business alive.

Dyson is a private company not on the stock market, and James Dyson has a rule about not taking on any outside investments. He feels the stock market and outside investment means you're focused on making money and not making product, and he felt he simply didn't have the money in the end to bring a car to market in any meaningful way. E.G. VW has already invested €50B in EVs. James' investment was his personal money and was 85 times smaller at €585M.

Dyson's idea was incomplete because it didn't do anything after it collected the diesel exhaust particles. However car companies did come up with a solution, Selective Catalytic Reduction aka diesel exhaust treatment systems. SCRs capture harmful Nitrogen Dioxide and Monoxide with the use of urea injection systems and then convert it to Nitrogen gas and water. Yes, it uses urine. If you take a look at new diesel trucks they have two fillers, one for diesel and another for diesel exhaust fluid (the urea).
