McNichol's tone is pretty fantastic too. On the lead playing that squeezed, nasally fuzz sound is heavenly.

Throwing this at a 2001 audience is like saying: here you are, cool isn’t it? Now go back to your lame ass staccato rap-metal shit until you get your head around it... just without having to say a word.

Oh, as a child of the 90's I was doing a lot of hip-hop when this was happening... thank god Manson (wow, how ironic), Pearl Jam, RATM, the Foos... kept me close to rock until I discovered QOTSA (a whole constellation of music in itself with side projects and all) in 2003 or so. These guys are right up there with the rock, and the blues classics in my book.

He's never fully been able to recreate that guitar tone without that Ovation GP. and QOTSA have never been able to recreate their sound without Nick. The band has progressively gotten worse since his departure.

duhlike I think that’s the point. If he wanted to keep that tone, he’d have kept using that equipment. The band hasn’t gotten worse, if anything they’ve become musically more complex. They’ve just changed.
