I know some people find Hindle shouting “MUMMY” silly, but when you think about it it’s actually kind of dark. Hindle said a few seconds before that he was ‘beaten every day’ as a child, and he begins shouting ‘mummy’ & ‘make him go away’ when he sees Sanders, the male authority figure of the group. A father figure…
From all that we can guess that as a child, Hindle was probably beaten by his father, with the only protection from the beatings being his mother…
“Go away! Somebody make him go away!! Mummy, mummy make him go away!!!”

If Hindle had an abusive father, then it suddenly makes sense why he regresses to a childlike state later on - it allows him to act out the childhood that he wasn't allowed to have as a way of coping with his deep-seated trauma. What he really needs, however, is the Box of Jhana...

I reckon it's a shame Christopher Bailey only got the two serials on Doctor Who, he was really subtle by the standards of Doctor Who, and Kinda and Snakedance are fantastic stories

@@sg-zd8eb Especially the old school Doctor Who and old school science fiction in general. Once upon a time, the soap opera melodrama was left where it belonged. In mainstream TV shows.

Hindle is possibly the most entertaining side character in 80's Doctor Who.

He kinda reminds you of Bronson Pinchot in The Langoliers but that was his dad instead of his mum.

1:12 doesn't cut as she's actually come forward to object and then is magically back with Peter. 1:31 seems like we're coming in at the end of a longer line. From 2:12 some nice thunks as things hit the studio floor, which should be soft ground. 2:39 is famously shooting way off the set with a camera visible through the doorway on the right 💙

OK, so the big rubber snake is altogether silly, but I never let budget effects diminish good dialog and powerful acting. Simon Rouse is playing a character skirting on the edge of a break-down, and has more great moments, like; trying to surprise people by Jumping out of a cardboard box - Having a little rant about fixing (ripped cardboard) people - and stating that the shields are 100%/1000%/one billion trillion percent in such a manor, that it eerily reminds me of David Tennant.

Does this mean the Mara is coming back in the 60th. I hope so. Such an underutilized villain. Snake dance wasn't as good as Kinda. Poor Teagan.
