I understand those on a fixed income who cannot afford the extra expense of this new community, but I don't understand being bitter and shaming Toni for it. She works incredibly hard to bring fresh content, she quit her job to pursue crochet full time, she's so talented... Does she not deserve to use her talent to make her own income? Whether you want to (or can afford to be) part of the new community or not, give her some love and support. She deserves it.
I totally understand this is her job, her income, and it is marketing. I worked in marketing for years - I really do get it. 👍 What shocks me, is that she stated on her 'live stream' that this new community is a place for 'serious artists', artists who are 'hard core'.... and it's a place of kindness. My problem is not the price it costs to be a member. My problem is that by making those statements about the members of her new community..... she has unknowingly painted a picture that those of us who don't/can't join.... do not measure up to those standards. We aren't 'serious artists', or 'hard core'. I know that's not true in my case. I don't have a problem with her decision to have her 'Hive Community'. I would do the same if I was in her shoes! Her words of exclusivity are condescending though - and in turn unkind. I have a problem with that. Is it good marketing to make people feel they are superior by being in this exclusive club? Sure, it absolutely is! It's 'Marketing 101'. Doing that at the expense of others who have been loyal subscribers...is very disappointing and I was shocked she would do that. In her excitement I think she has no clue how offensive her words were to some. I'm an old lady though! 😂 I know how to move on and can do just that. 👍

Do you not see how hurtful that is for your loyal subscribers who are also 'serious artists' and 'hard core' about their craft.....are put in a different (sub par) category when they simply can't afford to join. I don't have a problem with memberships, marketing, etc. It's the norm now - it's business. I have a problem with acting as if the members of your new community are an elite stock of artisans far exceeding those of your other loyal subscribers who simply can't pay for a membership. I really thought better of my fellow crafter/designer. I certainly learned something new today.

It’s a valid question. I was genuinely curious as well. I had to go search for the answer in the TL youtube videos play lists. If anyone wants Toni’s direct answer to why she chose to use Ai generated art for her crochet hive logo, check-out her Crochet Hive launch “live” video, at almost exactly 30 minutes in (30:51). 🤗☮️
as an artist, it's really disappointing to see the use of AI "art" here. AI "art" directly harms artists by taking jobs and stealing existing human artwork. using AI for an art/craft-based business harms the artist/crafty community it's intended for. the use of AI "art" is completely antithetical to the values of art and crafting. it breaks my heart to see.
People have been complaining about new inventions/technology stealing their jobs since before the industrial revolution. Real, human-made art will always be more special and valuable than machine/tech made. With everything going on in the world, it's AI art that breaks your heart? #priorities
@@MariaMartinStudio i wouldn't usually reply to something like this, but i feel that it is important to say that it is not okay to invalidate someone's feelings on this subject. again, as an artist myself, i have felt the impacts of AI art directly, and it has completely changed the art community, especially online. i no longer can post my artwork online due to generative AI training models stealing artwork from websites without consent or permission. as a result of not being able to post my artwork, i can no longer take commissions online, which was my only source of income as a college student. i not only feel the impacts of AI art emotionally, but financially. i have multiple friends online who have experienced the same thing. i can no longer connect with artists online as i used to, as i am not active in these circles anymore, due to not being able to post my artwork. so, yes, AI art breaks my heart. my heart is also broken about the numerous atrocities being committed in the world, which are more important, but this does not mean i can't feel upset about the loss of community and income i am experiencing as a result of AI art. why do you assume i only have room for one tragedy in my heart? it is not okay to invalidate or minimize feelings about AI art, especially when artists are expressing their personal experiences.

I assume you are focusing on your own loss when there are people literally starving to death in the midst of attempted genocide while the planet dies. I get it, you are experiencing loss related to your career and that sucks. What I am saying is that people have been losing jobs to technology for a very long time and it is to be expected. Things are always changing and that change is accelerating with technology. If you are seeking attention or sympathy, this is probably not the place to it, since you are trying to "correct" the original poster vs. debating the pros and cons of emerging technologies, which is not what this channel is for.
@@MariaMartinStudio So we're not aloud to focus on our own loss and frustration and pain just because someone else is going through worse??? That doesn't make any sense and isn't fair at all. Some of us are genuinely struggling and barely able to pay rent and eat proper meals everyday because a large source of our income has been fucked over by AI art. Are we not aloud to be upset about our own struggles?? There's literally always going to be someone out there who has it worse and it's not fair that we have to constantly prioritize others over ourselves! If I'm not taking care of myself how the hell am I supposed to help and take care of others? If I don't even have enough money to buy food for myself how am I supposed to donate to help those in need???

I’m so excited about this! I was thinking of taking a crochet class at my local yarn store that was $90 for two classes and while I value the teachers time and believe the price is reasonable the hive community is such a better value for the $$$$ and I can do the classes on my time. thank you Toni. I am also a subscriber who can't join in with the membership of your Yarn Hive Community due to finances (living on my disability income). I really do hope your 'members only community' works out well for you all - and wish you all sorts of success and fun with it. More and more people are doing 'memberships', and their initial vlogging tends to go on the back burner. Depressing as it is, exclusivity is the 'thing' these days which is important to those participants and I understand it's just how it is.
@@kimbo500 The TY channel and FB group will still be here, but your instincts are right. The quality will stay the same for a time, but we all know the expression “where your treasure is, your heart will also be”. And Toni’s treasure is the Hive now. Which means that after awhile, the quality of the YT channel and FB group will slowly start to decline. That’s not an insult to Toni, it’s just business.
The Hive is her baby, and will be the BULK of her income. (as she well deserves!) But the only way to make it a big success is to focus all of her energy into the Hive. The bigger it grows, the more time and energy it will demand, and there will be a point when very little will be left for CZcams.
I’m just being realistic. We had a great thing on this channel, and I enjoyed every bit of its heyday. But as with all things, nothing great lasts forever.
Luckily there’s enough tutorials here that I haven’t crocheted yet, so hopefully that should keep me busy for a little while. 😊

Your videos about using and organizing yarn stashes are incredibly helpful. I’d love to see one about managing that inventory electronically, whether by app or spreadsheet. The app I’ve come to rely on for managing my stash and projects has become crashy - and won’t let me add more yarn to my stash! 😩 I need a reliable backup - especially in case the developer doesn’t update the app.
