I may not be impressed with the First Lady's education, but I really admire her being so comfortable and sure of herself in such a high position. Following that logic, English is broken German with vocabulary from many other languages. Languages are spoken in communities. Everyone in the audience who learned English in Nigeria understood her perfectly. I'm African American and a native English speaker. But if I go down to South Carolina I will have difficulty understanding Gullah English. Not because their English is broken but rather because they speak an English creole that is specific to their region. My main problem with this clip is not her horrendous grammar but her lack of composure. If you're a "leader" and you can't keep yourself composed in trying times, what hope is there for the common masses? I am so embarrassed for Nigeria now. We mean this are the kind of brains we can vote to govern us with all the geniuses that abound within the nation?
Guys saying her English doesn't matter should stop been stupid. It's about effective communication. Even a simple graduate trainee at a job interview is expected to communicate properly in simple English. If she can't do that she should have used an official local dialect instead of embarrassing the country. For those saying foreign countries don't do the same go and search for video of how they abuse George Bush for his wrong pronunciation and use of English.
You musn't talk for the fun of it. if she speaks in her dialect, will the comments be any better? instead of focusing on her English and wasting so much energy on arguments, we should think of something to do to help. We just sit in the background and talk. are we any better? She put up a show for the cameras (assuming it was), she has at least done something none of us have done because we are too high on our horse. Grammar or not, she is where we aren't. We should at least respect that. If she were your mother, would you say the things you're saying because she doesn't have a good command of the English Language? Of course not!!! We should let the woman be. That is the least of the issues right now.
