I wanted to take the time to thank you all for watching and supporting this mini-series we made during this uneasy time. I hope for at least a few minutes you could escape this world and fly just as those Seagulls do!
Just wanted to say Thanks to Mikey and Joe for sharing this beautiful plane and flight in general
Thanks Mikey excelent job on the videos. Keep up the great work.
Was/is a great series Mikey keep them coming if you can😀😀
Fantastic mini-series! What a wonderful idea - brings back a lot of good memories flying with Joe. Some incredible DC-3 footage as well!
I would love for you to follow your brother around on a busy day. Talk about luck of the Irish!. Joe having two sons that stay in the business. Everything you guys do around that place is interesting. When I see Joe with his new pooch it really puts a smile on me face. 😁
This younger generation is blessed to have a man of that caliber, experience and humbleness to learn from. Master Class indeed!
Call Sign Animal I like what he says about learning from other fliers. There are a lot of components involved in a single “right” answer, or a critical decision.
@@colinwallace5286 I agree. That is where the humbleness comes in to play
Anybody else tear up when Joe talked about "When we're up here, we're free?" Just me?
But seriously, THANK YOU, Mikey, for doing this project. I'm so glad that you're documenting this, and in such a beautiful way! It's such a fantastic view of not only your father's amazing skills, but a glimpse into his heart, as well.
That’s why you have to believe in reincarnation because when I come to this world I want to be Joe McBryan
I didn’t see your comment but I did too. And the reason is that I am much older than you are and I have nostalgic memories of this aircraft from when I was a kid
When the wheels leave the ground, all the daily troubles drop away!
absolutely jeremy. being an empath myself this happens often when i listen to this man speak.
Likewise, my dad used to say the same and as an empath, I felt a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. Flying is often freedom in uncontrolled airspace, nothing like it - I miss it. On the rare occasions I get to fly, memories come flooding back and I have that same old feeling.
I have never seen Joe in such a calm and contemplative mood. He is truly in his element when he's flying and explaining the obvious "love of his life", the classic DC-3. Thanks for this tribute to two legends! ♥️🛫
What a great tribute !!
A great tribute to Joe McBryan, the DC-3, and all other (Ice) Pilots !!
Bravo, fellas.
Really good production Mikey. Missing the planes savers episodes...
Sometimes it is just difficult to put words to how something you see makes you feel. Words like melancholy and nostalgia come to mind but they barely do justice. Joe’s hand moving through the switches and levers with concise explanation. He knows full well the student absorbs just a little each time but knows it’s worth repeating until fully understood. You’re a rare bird Joe. Just like the plane you fly. Great video Mikey, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching!!!!
This is why I wish CZcams videos, and the comments, had a "love" button.
Here's a guy that isn't just a pilot, he's a man who loves to FLY. Listen to how he talks about the birds. He almost sounds jealous. True passion for flight right there.
Ya, I noticed the same. This Man is a rare breed, and I would love to take a flying lesson or two with him.
Possibly the best aviation video on CZcams.
👍👍
What a character, and how lucky would one be to learn how to fly a DC-3 from Buffalo Joe...
Excellent video series!
Ever since I was a young kid I always thought that the DC-3 was such a beautiful plane and still do.
A love letter to the DC-3 thanks to Joe and Mikey. Really touching work and just crazy to think how far you have been on this journey as a storyteller Mickey. Keep it up and know that this fan will always do what he can to support. You should win an award this this one sir :)
That is essentially the same thing I wrote in my original comment before I saw your comment, dude. This is more than a man and his plane/love of flying. It is a straight-up love story. Pure love and passion. Just like the DC3, the don't make people like they used to either. And yes, this is an amazing short film. Mickey did a great job putting this piece together. He should get an award...and Joe should be honored with the Order of Canada. There will never be another generation of pilots like the one Joe comes from. Our history is in his brain.
David Kreutzkamp - I agree that he should win an award for this video. Such pre- planning and deep thought way beyond most of us!
Your Dad is a Hero up here in the North, Buffalo has and still does provide a very important Service in the North. Joe has a tremendous amount of experience and a huge amount of flying hours. Thanks Joe and the whole Buffalo Team, for many years to come
I love it when a gruff tough seasoned senior citizen lapses down a philosophical road and really opens up and letting us see into his soul. Joe loves his life, he loves to fly, and he loves his Gooney Birds. Good on yuh, Joe! Clear skies and tailwinds forever!
Thank You Buffalo Joe for being the stern instructor that you are, your training is so important. I am a retired Naval Aviation Electricians Mate, I made it to first class Petty Ofificer. I worked on and flew as a Naval Aircrewman I starred as a inflight tech on the Convair C131 VIP aircraft, next i flew as a Flight attendant then load master on the Navy version of the DC9 witch carried the designator C9B it had a large cargo door and entry door on the left hand side or the fuselage and the oft ventral stairs in the rear of the aircraft. Next i became a crew chief and NATOPS Evaluator on the Grumman C1A COD {Carrier on bord Delivery aircraft witch flew to and from every aircraft carries off of the west coast next I also was a crew chief and NATOS evaluator on the Rockwell CT-39 E and G models. That covers the first 10 Years of my Naval Career. Dinner just arriver by for now. My Name Russell Da;leTaclett.

I will never get tired of watching a DC 3 take off and land.
I know this response is late but thoroughly enjoyed this video. In my books, the DC-3 is the queen of the skies, real hands on flying in a bird that has a huge history at altitudes that is far more interesting. Joe is a true master and knows the Gooney like an extension of himself, what a treat ! Always wanted to experience this aircraft, get to know its flying characteristics, quirks, what a gorgeous classic.
Also followed you all during the revival of The St Hubert bird that I have seen languishing at the time near a Vickers Viscount back over a decade ago. This is real flying , hands on and enjoy the ride with a seasoned veteran, love this video !
It is so gratifying and an honor to see this side of Joe's personality. At times the "ice pilots" show seemed to fixate on Joe's grumpy side, but you can tell from this video he is so passionate about aviation, and respecting the art of flying these old warbirds. He genuinely loves to teach young pilots honest hard work, and respect for the job (safety, risks, etc). Yes he has no time for BS, but like so many mentors I've had in life, he's tough on you because he wants to challenge you to be the best you can be - it always comes from a place of caring. Thank you Mikey for this opportunity to "fly" with Joe.
The DC 3 has always been my favorite plane. Watching Joe put his head out the window to check if the landing gear went down. Flying in a DC 3 is going to have to go on to my bucket list. Thanks Joe and Miley. This video was great.
What a nice aeroplane, and a 'dyed in the wool pilot' to show how it's all done!
Am I the only 51 year old guy that started watching this family and now want to drop everything and become an aviator?
Worked on them since I was 20 , never flew solo till 40 , I turn 50 in a month ..... no better time than now , live it .
Mikey I’ve got to admit, that old DC-3 of your dads is a beautiful lady, tall, sleek, smooth and her twin engines sound like a heavenly hum, I’ve been up in the one at the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run Michigan and the big agile C-47 was equal to operating an old Cadillac, you don’t fly them, you become a part of the plane, feel the controls respond, caress the plane and let her know your there to maintain and keep her happy through each and every flight. Nothing in my mind is so relaxing as being able to have the honor of flying these old war horses, their so robust, reliable, sturdy that they will be around for many many more years to come. One day I’d love to be able to become a pilot of a dc-3 or C-47 maybe even a “Connie” Pilot. Your dad has instilled a lifelong love and passion for these aircraft in you, he’s done well, he’s the exact person to teach, train and share his undying love for these tall majestic ladies.
The DC3 will always be a beauty.
Forget Canada's Wonderland or Disneyland. I want to go to Buffalo Airways and fly a DC3.
The greatest plane ever made.
And the greatest DC3 flyer, "Buffalo Joe".
A great tribute to 2 legends.
Joe is wise and philosophical, appreciative of the wonders of flying, not really the hard nose shown on the TV series. Thanks, Mikey, for bringing that out.
This has been a superb series Mikey - nice work putting it together and glad to see this as a real testimony to Joe, the legend!
His legacy will live on for ever :)
To have a teacher and mentor like Joe is all one could ever ask for. The number of people who owe it to Joe must be in the thousands. Every time I see a new video and or rerun. I always stop what I am doing and watch.
MM, your YT presentations have become historical contributions to the world aviation history. Thanks to your father and mother / employees and friends that contribute to these wonderful historical presentations. Thank you
The mighty DC-3 was the first plan I ever flew on. It's a memory I will never forget and the plane that made me interested in aviation. It's so nice seeing these big old birds still flying. And Buffalo Joe is so passionate about his old girl. It's wonderful!
Great series! Thanks :)
Such a GREAT video, Mikey. Thank you, Mikey. Your father is truly a legend and I truly appreciated riding along with him on this flight. Please thank him for me.
This guy would be a fantastic teacher to be honest. He understands the difference between someone who actually cares about the machine they're operating vs someone who doesn't
Thank you for doing this Mikey and thanks for letting the world see this side of your father. Joe is a true "flyer" and I learned a lot about his character as a teacher from watching
I liked watching Ice Pilots but I find these videos far more entertaining. You get the people, the airplanes, and no drama.
I love watching and learning from Buffalo joe. Probably the best teacher left in this world. Has an amazing heart too to be willing to teach everyone everything he knows.
Simply no better reason to travel to Yellowknife to visit.
You'll have to forgive a probable silly-assed grin that hasn't really gone away since I started watching this series.
Thank you Joe and thank you Mikey. You've done such a good job on these. You can just feel your Dad's true love of the DC-3.
When he said how well they were built and that it'd last forever, I teared up a bit. Still got a lump in my throat 20 minutes later.
👍🙏
habe die serie im tv gesehen und bewundere das schöne flugzeug.es half berlin zu versorgen, was wir nie vergessen werden."der rosinenbomber".
The series was great to watch. I got to fly on a DC 3 in Costa Rica years ago. I could see the rivets vibrating on that old bird. We landed on a grass runway in Golfito. Thank you Buffalo staff for the great entertainment.
As the old saying goes. “Find a job that goes along with your hobbies and you will never work a day in your life” Buffalo Joe definitely lives that quote and it shows. Him whistling along as he walked back to the hanger shows that flight was like riding a old trusted race horse around the track and put it back to rest in the barn, and was going to hang the sattle up till the next run
Amazing work, Mickey. A lot of people who are new to you guys might see this and think, 'ahh, a cool story of a cool dude and his plane'. But in all seriousness, it is a love story. Your dad has an obvious passion and love for flying. It is a beautiful thing. Just like how the new planes don't compare to the old warbirds like the DC3, the same applies to people. Joe is a prime example of how they sure don't make them like they used to. Joe McBryan should receive the Order of Canada.
I send my respect from Nova Scotia. Take care, brother.
In a little over 19 days I'll be lucky enough to start working for a UK based historic flying company as volunteer ground crew. They have two DC3's in their fleet and I really can't wait and realize how fortunate I am. This series is just fantastic and devour each episode. I just hope my tutor is of the same calibre as Joe.
That is your best video ever Mickey. Joe's passion for the wonderful DC3 is so clear. He is so lucky to have spent a lifetime with the DC3'.
Buffalo Joe and a DC-3, long may they continue. This was a real treat to watch Mikey, yet again you have produced a video that is truly sublime, in a 100 years time people will still be watching these CZcams videos and thinking this is one awesome record of two legends together, Joe and his DC-3.
Thank you for the kind words David, i sure hope someone would be able to watch in a 100 years.
@@MikeyMcBryan These videos that you make are timeless, and they are already part of the history of DC-3 aviation.
With your beer and your Export "A" 😊 Thanks Joe I have learned much about life watching you.......
I flew with Buffalo Joe in his DC3 many years ago up north. It remains one of my all-time greatest flying experiences. I had never flown in a DC3 before and it was a wonderful experience.
Buffalo and Joe have been on my watch list for a long time.
Real men and machines and real life, but still with a touch of sensitivity, humanity and a connection with flyers of the past.
This whole collection of Buffalo will be watched for decades to come,a real privilige to share this precious time with you all!
Thanks to all involved .
My wife is flying a DC 3 for a company in South Africa. She was a former F-15 pilot for the Israeli Air Force. She absolutely loves it..." Full of bumps and shmumps". In addition my now deceased uncle used to throw food out of DC 3's in WW2 for the troops on the allied invasion of Europe
What a wonderful production, had to put my dog down today and this brightened my day back up. Thank you Mikey, Buffalo Joe and the whole crew.
Glad you enjoyed it and it made your tough day a little bit brighter , Im sorry for your loss
Thanks for the flight Buffalo Joe. First airplane I ever flew in was a DC-3. It was actually an RD-4, and we toured the SF Bay area. That was in about 1956 and we were crewed by Naval Reserve people. It was real flying back then not fish in a can like today.
I Really Appreciate Joe's attitude towards mentoring. I Chose to be in Trucking and remember the older Guys that took the time to Give me the Gift of Knowledge. I Listened the best I could to learn all I could.
Know I'm an Older Guy and I try to pass on what I can to the younger Drivers. Though I am very selective who I train as Trucking has become a nightmare for the most part. I think that most young People can do better Learning another Vocation.
If you have connections to Family excavating, Farming or Trucking concerns I'll teach someone who is really interested.
Otherwise you'll make twice as much money being a plumber or a heating and A/C person. And get to have a life too.
Plane savers is a Great channel with Great People.
Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.
thank you MIke!!!!
@@MikeyMcBryan 👍
True Legend.......Flew in a DC3,,,To lac laronge in 1973....loved the power ...loved the sound.....keep on being FREE ,,,JOE....Love your style.....
Your Dad, forever a part of the story and history of Canada.
My first flight in the late 50's was a DC3 from Alamosa CO to Denver with my dad. The next time we did that flight we lost the right engine about 15 minutes out of Denver heading in. I saw the smoke and the pilot feathered the engine. My dad closed the curtain. Great memory and I have always loved DC-3's! Fly on Joe, fly on.
Just stunning. What can I say, probably the best 15 minutes of CZcams ever. The DC3, what a machine!
Joe became a real poet up there eulogising the ever changing view from the deck of his DC3. Great stuff. Excellent music and soundtrack mix also.
After the war my father worked for Continental Air Lines. He was the 185 employee of the airline. When we flew, the airline was so small that everybody knew everybody. I always got to go up in the cabin and would sit on the pilots lap and feel like I was flying that old DC-3. I got to experience the beginnings of air travel, fun times.
The CFI in me was yelling in my head..."Dammit, the centerline is over there."
Great job Joe.
me too! But I think Joe would just say "well, I don't wanna wear out the runway by landing in the same spot every time!"
@@halepauhana153 Well, Joe does seem to be all about longevity. I hope he lives to be 150!
"When we're up here we are free", bless you Buffalo Joe. Greetings from Australia :-)
Beautiful, amazing, timeless, the freedom of flight is a passion like nothing else on this planet. I don't have enough words Mikey to express what I feel. All I can say is thank you for being who you are and sharing this love of aviation with us all.
Thank you Leo!l for all the support!!!
@@MikeyMcBryan you are most welcome Mikey, so many things have happened thanks to you and this amazing channel, I now have friends in places I never imagined ha ha! Love your work bud 🤘🍻
That was a nice surprise. You can see the passion Buffalo Joe has for his DC3.., and if I ever make it from Australia to Yellow Knife I will be coming to see you all at Buffalo Airways. Well done in keeping the old girls flying.
Somewhere around 68', 69', I had an opportunity to fly in a DC-3. I was only 8 or 9 years old.
My Grandmother in Wisconsin passed away and my mom and dad had to go to Madison to bury her.
We flew from Los Angeles, CA to Milwaukee, WI in a jet aircraft but since Madison didn't have an
airport that could accommodate a jet, we transferred to a DC-3 for the final leg of the trip.
I distinctly remember the Stewardess passing little Wrigley Spearmint gums to each of us upon
entering the airplane and I got a little pair of wings to pin onto my shirt. I also remember the huge
cloud of smoke billowing from the engine upon startup. It was thrilling.
I can say I've flown in a DC-3 twice in my life.
It's always a pleasure to watch someone who is truly competent in his craft.
A solid skytrain since over 80 years !
Joe you're a legend your description of the feel, feeling, are very emotive and anyone who gets to that level of understanding of life, living is very lucky and mikey thanks for helping us see through Joe's eyes briefly 👍
We love you Joe!!!!!! Thanks for this and you as well William!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great life being able to continue carrying on 2 legends Dc3 n BufJoe
What an absolute treasure. I’ve watched the entire Ice Pilots series at least 5 times, and it never gets old to me. Yellowknife seems like a world away from Dallas, Texas. Maybe I can get up there someday to visit Buffalo.
Great video. Great Plane. Great instructor.
Wow, this series hits the spot like a big bowl of pasta and homemade sauce! This is legacy worthy stuff we now have to enjoy forever, just as it should be. Thanks for producing this content Mikey, it is clearly a labor of love!
🍝 :)
I've flown big jets for years and have thousands of hours but I think I speak for most of us when i say Joe has the pilots life we all dreamt of!
Extremely well done
Seems incredible that the DC-3 was manufactured from 1936-1942, and some are still flying today... this is a testament to how rugged and well designed the old 'Gooney Bird' was. That classic 'tail dragger' stance and broad wings were unmistakable back in their day - and it just looked like it wanted to fly and be flown. So well done, the military designated them as C-47's and used over 10,000 of them during WW-II. Truly a Great plane!
The feeling is the same from the big boys in the sky to the tiny ones, as soon as the wheels leave the turf for that short while... you’re free. I remember when I flew a tiny Foxbat and it was like being in the land of the birds, all worries vanishing for that short time. The little Rotax carrying us for so long. Wish it could last forever. Glad to see this small series, always liked the DC-3. Like my old Land Rovers, there’s just nothing that can capture the analogue nature of these beasts today.
Great to see William flying with Joe and getting tips from him.
My heart was already full from watching my favourite pilot on the planet. And then I saw who the co-pilot was, who Joe had said so many nice things about, and I literally started to cry. Well done, Will. Bien joue, monsieur. I am so happy to see you living your dream young man. Did you ever think when you did the high speed taxi at St. Hubert that one day you would do it for real??! MAGNIFIQUE!!!!! BRAVO!!!!!!!
Thanks Eric! 👍👍👍
Absolutley perfect Mikey.
A legendary airplane! And a real treat to have a veteran pilot take us through the bits and pieces of getting it in the air and then back on the ground! Thanks!
THANKS for sharing. Such a gorgeous aircraft.
Joe, Mikey, that was amazing ! Loved it 😊
Love this ❤️. DC-3’s forever!
Wow! This is well done!
Do more.
just beautiful! Thank you
Great pilot, keep the videos coming. Thanks
Beautiful episode, nothing like flying with your dad. Let alone his amazing stories and wisdom.
Superb video. Thanks Joe and Mikey.
Great job Mikey & Joe, you've captured the essence of a unique & often wonderful world, & the mindset needed within : )
Thanks so much!
Great Film. This is a Masterpiece.
Thank you very much for sharing,
Thanks to Mikey and Joe for doing this!!! I love these kind of videos!!!!!!!! Just wonderful!!!!!
Nice work Mike - really watchable, enjoyable and educational
That was outstanding Mikey, thanks for putting these up. Great to hear your Dads insights on flying and his life with these great planes.
Awesome video,great plane , a true classic
Mickey/Joe another great. Thx
Buffalo Joe is the reason why I love the DC-3 so much. Since I was little I have known that I want to be a pilot. The DC-3 is such a cool aircraft and I hope to own one one day! Im only 17 though, so I still have a little while :)
Beautiful video thanks so much
Those are truly the best planes ever I would definitely love to learn how to fly a DC-3
This is fabulous. My dad flew this plane in WWII in army air corps. I’m sure he would appreciate the upgraded instrumentation! He said it was an incredible work horse.
I spent my younger years before I became a CR pilot at Points North Saskatchewan. I got to ride and fly in a lot of wonderful aircraft including the DC-3's they had CQT and NTF. I would love to go have a beer with Joe and talk to him about flying these aircraft. He is 100% correct the aircraft is surprisingly stable and yet responsive as long as pitch, power and trim are managed properly. I loved flying DC-3's for the same reason I loved flying helicopters. They have to be flown. They are tactile aircraft you have to fly but like being around a big dog you learn not to startle them and as long as you don't startle them it's almost effortless. "When we're up here, we're free" truer words were never spoken. Excellent video thanks for posting.
Thank you for all the videos. I spent this Sunday, all day binge watching one after another....loved them all. WE'RE FREE! AMEN.
Thank you Joe and thank you Mikey, your efforts to bring us this series is much appreciated.
I could watch this style of video all day long, great job!
