Never painting before. Jumped straight into digital dainting. Years later (3 years) been curious about how real paint works. I'll try to replicate your technique in Photoshop and see how it works.

Art by Scout Dawson oh please save it , just cuz YOU didnt like digital painting doesnt mean it's inferior in anyway to traditional painting , it IS done by hand , just the medium is different, just like you feel special trying to put down digital art cuz you're doing it the " traditional way" ,im sure the old men who used to paint 1000 years ago would also not have really great remarks about your work since you didnt do it their " traditional way" by actually creating colors instead of getting them in tubes LOL

I was so glad to see the monitor that has a picture of what you're painting. I always feel like I'm cheating when I find a picture on the internet or take a photo of something and then want to try and recreate it with paint. I guess it doesn't matter where the inspiration comes from as long as you're inspired! Great work! I look forward to more videos!

Totally helpful, to the point and specifically what I needed now in my painting. I appreciate your brushwork. I also appreciate your vocabulary in descriptive terminology about the items you paint, as you seem to be able to use words like 'canopy' that expresses an image of an umbrella shape or broccoli canopy of green...whereas other teachers might use terms like 'the patch of green" your way of wording things makes your illustrations much more valuable...helps cement the information into place in my mind.
Thank you so much,I've learned a lot! I do the whole process like you demonstrated,even to the jam jar lid for a container! I don't squeeze out nearly so much paint,and find clearing up easier too. The acrylic blocking in has been a godsend. I don't find starting a painting so daunting now. Brilliant tuition.

The finished areas are fantastic and I can't help thinking that in all of your works, the acrylic underpainting with the first thin shadow areas scrubbed in oil, is so strong and they could stand alone as 'finished' impressions. Like you I have an end goal of the completed work , though it is a testament that you have strong values blocked in that it's tempting to put them aside as pictures in themselves and do a duplicate to completion. For you, this is probably not practical, if not for pure economy of time and materials. Thank you for your thorough instruction, both in painting and video technique. So many paint dark -> light but I've found I do that, but then go back to dark to "fix" up some of the shadow areas....on distant trees, I'll do blocking, then the black/dark green texture, then the highlights then go BACK over it with a small texture brush and it makes the highlights pop.
