I don't think people realize that the different sciences will often use the same words to represent different concepts. Biology lists man as the mature male human reproductive class. Sociology apparently lists man as some sort of role that you play in society. Psychology apparently lists it as your "gender identity" The problem is that the latter 2 are based on information gathered about the first, so they come off as incoherent when used outside of their own field but the current push is to try to use those in the legal and colloquial tongues instead of the very obvious one that predated but aligns with biology.
We can listen and seek to understand why people think and feel and believe what they do, and learn compassion and love while at the same time hold onto reality and truth.

Why do they get to now decide for other people what a human is? I would be totally fine if they treated it like any other religion. You believe it, and you can't force another person to practice your religion.
I once talked to someone who identified as non-gender binary. They were upset that a teacher had asked them to "misgender" a character in a short story. In our conversation I asked, "If a someone's personal identity is based on another person recognizing it, is it their personal identity?" A person who is Jewish doesn't need someone who is Muslim doesn't need another person to affirm their faith for them to be Muslim. This is a point that so many activists keep missing. It also makes me think that the "debate" in political circles is being used as a tool to justify censorship.

If you haven't find a support group, read books about cults(how to get people out) & do whatever it takes to get him offline & doing something. Go on a hike, play cards, talk about everything but the elephant in the room- deescalate. I recently had a conversation with a young person that went a lot like this. They honestly did not realize that people were biologically either male or female. They thought that some people have working testicles and ovaries. He also didn't realize that men were so much stronger than women, he thought it was just because men are encouraged to exercise. They are so confused and don't understand basic biological facts.

That's a little frustrating. She spends the whole time arguing that there is no objective truth to what makes someone male or female but then backtracks COMPLETELY to say that trans shouldn't compete in women's categories or women's sports because we've already established a long-standing tradition for how we categorize male and female when it comes to sports...right after saying that male and female were not categories and that adhering to tradition is close-minded. You cannot have it both ways. I like Zuby's response of having a desire to be both respectful and truthful at the same time. This can happen. I have zero problem calling my trans friends by their preferred pronouns and names, just like I'd call anyone by a nick-name they would wish to go by (so long as it wasn't offensive) but they really shouldn't need me to force my brain to change reality in order to feel like they've achieved their happiness.
Perhaps you can provide another example. I recently came across one about a person who has anorexia. This individual perceives themselves as being overweight and desires to lose even more weight. How do we address this situation? Using the same logic, should we honor their feelings and assist them in losing even more weight, despite the fact that they are already malnourished and at risk of death? Or should we acknowledge their starvation and help them gain weight instead?
This argument is similar to the question of whether we should enable a girl to harm her body if she identifies as a boy. Alternatively, should we dismiss her assertion and instead assist her in addressing her mental health needs?

I don't think people realize that the different sciences will often use the same words to represent different concepts.
Biology lists man as the mature male human reproductive class.
Sociology apparently lists man as some sort of role that you play in society.
Psychology apparently lists it as your "gender identity"
The problem is that the latter 2 are based on information gathered about the first, so they come off as incoherent when used outside of their own field but the current push is to try to use those in the legal and colloquial tongues instead of the very obvious one that predated but aligns with biology.
We can listen and seek to understand why people think and feel and believe what they do, and learn compassion and love while at the same time hold onto reality and truth.
At the bedrock of this it’s the idea of “kindness over everything”. Most people don’t understand the complexities of true kindness. Sometimes kindness is staying firm and saying what needs to be said even if it’s uncomfortable. If your child wanted to eat candy all day, the kind thing isn’t to give them all the candy they want, the kind thing is to limit them and explain why eating too much is an issue. You see this dissonance at the core of feminism, where they always jump to the side of “kindness” without consideration of the complexities.
