Yep, for 20 years as an assistant coach then as a head coach, it's been Ross Lyon's one tactic.
He has not evolved as footy has into a more attacking game.
Now saints fans are stuck with him and his insipid, one-dimensional, low scoring style that's horrible to watch. And the likes of Max King suffer for it.

I’m a Saints supporter and our list is middle of the Road. I’m happy Lyon is the coach, they were no better with Ratten. Until we actually recruit at least another A grade midfielder we won’t compete properly to win every week and will yo-yo with results. It’s like being an Eagles supporter and getting angry because they aren’t competing for finals, it’s pointless with the list. I know where we are at, so I’m not getting drawn into the Lyon hate. If we had another coach we’d still be average.
Corn is just having a go because he knows Lyon is a media scalp as no one goes for him so he’s just having a go. I don’t actually mind Corn in general but he’s pretty calculated with his media career and knows what to target to get his name out.
Eg.
Lyon - no one goes for him.
Harley Reid - no one was going for him.
San Mitchell - championing him last year as no one else was.
Watch his takes they are all individual, to promote his personal career as a media personality.

Everyone loves to bag on Kane more than any other bloke in footy media. 3 games in 11 days is somewhat valid (still a horrible game), but Port and Hawthorn have been nothing short of diabolical. Essentially a fully healthy 23 against Hawthorn when they don't have chol, Lewis or Sicily and we still lose. Bye bye Ross.

I have so much sympathy for saints supporters. I don’t wanna sound over dramatic, but the bounce of that ball in 2010 broke this club and they’ve never recovered. They’ve had 15 years of absolute garbage since.
