  • Thank you for joining us on this trip report!
    I’m flying Ryanair for the first time in 18 years!
    I flew with them from Eindhoven to Girona and as it was one of my first low cost experiences I really hated it! Thought they were ruining aviation.
    Fast forward I now realise they revolutionized aviation and thoroughly enjoyed my experience with their competitive product.
    Today we are showcasing you the following flight:
    From: Josep Taradellas Barcelona - El Prat Airport, Catalonia, Spain
    To: Venice Marco Polo Airport, Italy.
    Flight Number: FR3043
    Aircraft Type: Boeing B737-800W
    Registration: EI-EFI
    Flight Time: 01:28
    Don’t forget to like and subscribe if you enjoyed our video!

      The crew was very nice and hard working. I agree It’s a great airline for short haul flights and at great prices.
      And you have to be kind to all crew regardless of the wages😁. I think Ryanair is a nice place to start at for crew and then continue to grow their careers.

      Lufthansa wages are shit aswell, especially for new flight attendants that work for subsidiarys in low wage countries. Lufthansa Group's newest airline, called discover was also mainly just founded to save staff costs. Pilots and crew rarely have the choicr between working for Discover, CityLine, interpersonal or Eurowings as far as I know.

    regarding the seatbelt sign alaways on!! i thought you might want to know, since 2020 we keep it on at all times as a procedure to keep people from standing up and not keeping their distance, now we keep it as there's been an increased experience from both cabin crew and pax as they're not queueing the toilets and blocking the only available aisle in the cabin!

      Thanks a lot for the answer Gabriela, always great to know!
      Feel sorry for the people that follow illuminated signs though as they might feel shy to get up and go to the lavatory.
      In Singapore Airlines lavatory use or getting up while the sign was on was a strict no no and I hear a few people being barked at.

    The woman that does the voice over for the safety demos is the same, but on your flight you heard the new one. The old one did not include information about what to leave when evacuating and they alos added more information on electronic devices. In general, the new demo is more detailed. The old demo was only 2 minutes long (to reduce time on the ground I presume), and the woman doing the voice over was talking much faster!

    Hi, great trip report, glad you enjoyed some bubbly at 40,000ft with Ryanair. Regarding the seat belts sign, they are kept on due to Covid measures to avoid passengers congregating on the aisle, and specifically by the toilet. Regarding the Packs off for departure, on the 737 it’s actually Engine bleeds off, and supplying the left pack with APU bleed air. On the Ryanair route network, a bleeds off takeoff is quite a seldom event, only when it’s really hot and heavy weight takeoff. Madrid in summer on flights longer than 3hrs possibly flaps 1 or flaps 5 with bleeds off. Take care!

      Thanks for the answer! Yes, called it packs by mistake, I’m very familiar to the Airbuses..🤦🏻‍♂️
      About the seatbelt sign, makes sense in some way, but it would still encourage people to get up while the sign is on. I mean, sometimes you just have to go..
      On a Chinese airline I spend a good 3 hours waiting for the sign to go off until I realised it would just never happen so just went to the lavatory.
      Thanks again for all the explanations!

    Honestly, I never had the Ryanair experience you've just had. You got lucky man! Also, I never saw a Ryanair flight this empty! That could be why it was pleasant, maybe? And also that nice price? But I do think that you are right that if you just look at the seat and the fact that one is transported by air, ULC is not that different. Now from Dutch perspective, the extra inch in pitch matters, a lot! 😆 I always try to avoid LCC/ULC when I can, and mostly I can, for all the "inconveniences" that you described in the intro, which I have always experienced with Ryanair. Even when I need to fly low cost, I will always try Transavia or Wizz. So much better IMO. Anyway, thanks for all your great videos!

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  Před 2 lety

      Not lucky David, you really get treated the way you treat them. I always try to chat with the crew and the nicer you are to them, the better treatment you get back. And when you’re genuinely interested in the plane or their job 95% of the time they assist to make something nice.
      And yes, the flights are mostly empty during covid but specially to certain destinations. I plan my trips like this on purpose: I know that to Italy has many requirements so people just don’t fly there.
      Never tried Wizz but I might. They fly from Dubai. I’m however really afraid of flying 5-6 hours with them..
      Thanks for watching David!

      There's definitely some luck in there for sure. But the main thing with Ryanair and most LCCs is that if things go wrong you don't have anyone to help make alternative arrangements, and you probably won't get a refund as well. When my Ryanair flight got cancelled during the start of the pandemic I was refused a refund. Meanwhile when Aegean Airlines made me miss my connection flight they arranged a free stay at a 5 star hotel for me and provided three meal vouchers till the rescheduled flight

    If I was to guess the strange busboarding at Barcelona, the authorities normally force Ryanair to pay for airbridges. It's possible that the aircraft's previous flight was from a non-schengen origin witn the passengers having to be bussed to Border Control. They probably decided it was easier to leave the stairs down and busboard rather than retracting the stairs and connecting the airbridge with what may have been a tight turnaround.

      The plane did not fly until this flight. And many other Ryanairs were using jetways, so I’m afraid we didn’t find a good reason yet..
      There was a time where some Spanish airport “made them use jetways” but I think that’s over, there is a choice between remote stand or jetways parkings. Just check Vueling’s and Easyjet’s operation in BCN..

    I believe Ryanair carried over 140,000,000 passengers in 2020 so despite all the adverse publicity they are doing something right, for a budget cost what more would you want, and a good coffee on this flight. Personally I prefer Easyjet but that's my choice. You mentioned Cruz from B A good to see he has gone and already under the new leadership of Doyle changes are happening, one day The Worlds Favourite may return.

      Hope the worlds favourite returns! Don’t like all the changes Cruz made. Fine for a low cost, but I don’t think that’s what people expect from BA. He created a toxic work environment. He had done the same to Vueling and Clickair when they merged into one.

    This is the side many of us never get to see.... that they are a normal European airline and a good market disrupter that has made millions of people be able to afford & enjoy cheap flights.
    I have always wondered what that humming noise is.... now I know it's the fuel pump ! Thanks for another eye opener.

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  Před 2 lety

      Many have had, or still have, something against Ryanair. I’ve been part of those.
      Back in the day there were only full service airlines, even chartes offered a service. The first low costs that I flew ; Basiq Air (belonged to Transavia) and Ryanair really managed to piss me off as everything had changed. Back then the difference was enormous.
      I also saw how it was slowly affecting my relatives and friends working in aviation. Salaries had to be cut and working hours raised. So that was my anger.
      But I was lucky to live next to major airports and be able to fly often.
      Low cost meant that finally people next to regional airports could have various routes to fly to instead of having to drive 350km to the capital.
      Fast forward 20 years and now all legacy airlines became low cost on short flights, this is aviation’s new normal. So yes, Ryanair for today’s standarda is just as good or better as anyone else.

    I've always had reasonably good experiences with Ryanair and their business model is certainly sound. But my one objection to them is how they've historically treated their flying crew and cabin crew. Sadly many other airlines have lowered their standards to Ryanair's, but I think if one just accepts that they're a 'bus service' from A to B then fine. Totally agree with you regarding the lack of reclining seats. For short and medium haul they're totally unnecessary and are a real pain if you're sitting behind someone who wants to fully recline. If that happens on short haul flights I tend to surreptitiously tap the back of their seat repeatedly with my knee! Naughty I know, but why should I be uncomfortable due to their thoughtlessness? I don't mind so much for long-haul flights.

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  Před 2 lety

      Nice comment!
      So my perspective on how they treat their employees is the same as any other business.
      You can be a low paid chef in a fast food restaurant or over paid at some high end one.
      You build your career over time until you eventually land somewhere where you worked hard to reach.
      I’ve heard it all about Ryanair T&C’s, but let’s say for pilots it’s a solid experience to have done thousands of take off and landings on short flights, up to 4 a day, to countless challenging airports and weathers.
      Later in their career they can apply for some high paid airline that will value their experience and give the best possible conditions.
      Then again, nobody forces anyone to work for Ryanair. We all know what awaits there so it’s kind of pointless to complain. It might sound harsh, but I do some deep investigation prior to choosing who I work for or who works for me. My two cents!
      About the reclining seats, I would remove them all from short haul. Many airlines are actually doing this (Tap, Iberia, Vueling, KLM Cityhopper, Ryanair, etc).
      That tiny bid of recline doesn’t make a difference to your comfort.
      Thanks for watching!

      You’re totally right Neville.
      If you watch video’s from recent evacuations you’ll continue to see people either filming it all or fetching all their belongings. Such an action can cost someone’s life.
      But then again, it’s an human instinct..
      90 seconds with half of all the cabin doors inoperative, imagine!

    11:13 in my experience, Lufthansa has cleaner cabins, better crews and the pilots are better educated. If you want to check-in a bag or get a seat reservation, the price of a Ryanair ticket is either the same as Lufthansa or even more expensive. But I have to admit, the service has been downgraded over the years since you only get a bottle of water and a piece of chocolate compared to the warm meal and free drinks you had in the 80s. Flying has become a hard fought battle these days.

      We’ll, would you pay 5 times more on the same route for everything you mentioned above?
      My ticket included everything, even a bag! And the buy on board menu is cheaper too.
      Don’t get me wrong, I like Lufthansa. But the difference between them and low cost is minimal.
      Crew training at Ryanair is very serious from what I know.
      What I can agree on is that at Lufthansa they might be more senior and have more experience, but then again, the choice between 20€ or 160€ on a 2 hour flight is easy for me..

    Would you like to watch my new trip report on Qantas Business from Sydney to Delhi?

    • @TheLayoverAviation
      @TheLayoverAviation  Před 2 lety

      I watched it, very nice!
      I understand why it’s so profitable for them. All my flights I’ve taken from Australia to the Middle East were full of Indian passengers. It’s better for many to have a direct flight.
      Looking forward flying Qantas again!
