Thanks for this ... I got quite teary seeing it. Not that I was born until 1963 but it had not changed when I used it as a kid. Many happy hours with Nan over there. The paddling pool in the summer with the 'sunbeams' first thing in the morning. The lady at 'the swings' was a friend of Nan's and opened the place up early just for me and my sister, it was very magical in those very early summer mornings. I don't get back to Dagenham and more, I have heard it's not as it was and I'd rather keep my memories. All the family used to live there yet none do any longer. My late uncle used to have hours and hours of cine film but a family rift I had no control over meant I lost touch with them which was really upsetting as I have so few memories of my mum who died in 1986. As I am in several of them, it would be nice to see what I was like as a kid and reminded of all those happy times. Thanks again
Lovely video, I remember the '70s when they had a twisty helter skelter slide and the paddling pool dried up in the hot summer of '76. They also had flamingos in the pond. It's very similar to my memories though, the same rides. We lived 5 to 10 mins walk away, now I live in Cornwall. Dagenham has changed a lot, was last there in 2017.
If I opened my front door right now, look to my right I can see that park right now. Of course just a shadow of how it used to be when I played there as a kid in the 70's. The little Irish lady who would supervise the playground. The American swings and the Red painted helter skelter slide. The pink flamingos and the Adventure playground. It's all gone to ruin by the substandard local government and the lowering of the parenting standards which spewed kids out with broken attitudes locally. A real shame.
@@TB..... 😊 I still go over there 2 or 3 times a week with my doggies ,,,there are still signs of the past hidden away ,like the slab of tarmack where the parky use to sit for the par 3 golf course,, renting out the clubs
My sister has stopped going there with the grandkids cos it's a dumping ground and bushes cut away to stop people from going in them and doing what they shouldn't .this is how I remember all our parks in the 60s and 70s.lovely .in this day age we should have the same but we have gone backwards .Dagenham is a dump.the days when we had park keepers and no vandalism.
That's how I remember it in the 1970s up to about 1976 when we moved to to Goresbrook. Goresbrook Park was far less equipped and becoming quite vandalised. After the decline in the 70s, 80s and 90s, I'm happy to say that today's parks now are a lot nicer for my kids, even if they don't have the scarily high slides of my childhood.
So, those 'American swings' (as someone below reminded me as to what they were called - why, I don't know) were still there when I was a kid in the 90s. In fact, a lot of that equipment was, I remember that merry-go-round although I think it had a paint job or two since.
The days when dads wore a tie to take their children to the park (these days you'd be lucky to find many dads), Health & Safety didn't exist otherwise a whole report would have been compiled to alarm readers of the Dagenham Post (does it still exist, I wonder?) , and just a claner looking world in general.
LOL. I might have seen you there! Lived in Rugby road! Fifty-odd years have taken such a toll, though. Rarley hear those happy screams from the 'swings'. The bowling green gone. Took my boy there about twenty years ago. So called health and safety had completely screwed it. No parky shouting 'Get off that bike!' All we got now, Ollie are the memories. Maybe thats enough: if we can still remember, it must have been good, eh?
@@jager896 They have just rebuilt the play area at Parsloes but i dont see it lasting long to be honest such a shame the council keep trying but the youngsters will destroy it again
A time when parks were enjoyed, appreciated and not vandalised.
This video brings back so many good memories I remember playing on the swings when I was young
Thanks 😊
Well that brings back memories, I spent a lot of time in that park, happy days! Thank you!
Thanks David that as brought back so many memories from when I lived in Parsloes Avenue.

Steve Antipolo ..glad you enjoyed
I remember the pink flamingos in Parsloes Park. You're right not to visit Dagenham, it's changed for the worse
was a beautiful park x

Where in Dagenham did you live? If you don’t mind me asking? And what school did you attend?

Gawd, I was eight then, but can remember the play area ;)

That’s when it was well kept and decent.

I used to hang out there in the 80s had some great times over there.

The old parloes brooo, i walk through there everyday, jesus when i was little it was still messed up tho, i wish i was there to see it like that ;(
Dangerous place now after dark you have to have your wits about you in day light so sad 😒
Its suprising that nearly all parks across the uk had similar equipment and construction, even the fences. Possibly post war rebuild contracts?
Used to spend a lot of fun time in that park in the 70s with family picnic's now I wouldn't go there it's horrible
This is very interesting. Is this your private footage or was this gotten from a source?
I have the original 8mm film ,,I think my dad actually filmed it be fore he gave me cine camera for my birthday
@@TheAvalons1964 Ah thank you, I am really interested in what the area looked back in the day before it started to get vandalised.
0:39 I was there today abandoned a broken window was there and I wanted to explore my sister didn't let me
ShortClipGamer you cringe potato
I've tried to explain those double swings to younger people and they don't have a clue what I mean. I'll link them here in future.
We called them “American swings “ when I was a kid
@@johntailing5283 We did too. They were still there when I was a kid in the 90s!
