1. APFSDS: Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot
- Uses: APFSDS rounds are designed to penetrate armored targets. Upon firing, the sabot is discarded, and the penetrator dart travels at high velocity, relying on its kinetic energy to penetrate the target's armor.
2. HEAT: High-Explosive Anti-Tank
- Uses: HEAT rounds are explosive projectiles designed to defeat armored targets. They use a shaped charge warhead that directs the explosive energy into a focused jet of superheated metal. This jet can penetrate armor by melting or punching through it.
3. HESH: High-Explosive Squash Head
- Uses: HESH rounds are primarily used against armored vehicles and fortified structures. They contain a plastic explosive that flattens against the target on impact, creating a shockwave that causes spalling (the fragmentation of the target's inner surface). This mechanism is effective against armored vehicles with relatively thin or non-spaced armor.
4. TB: Target Practice Ballistic
- Uses: TB rounds are inert or non-explosive ammunition used for training purposes or target practice. They closely mimic the ballistic characteristics of live rounds but do not possess the destructive capabilities.
5. PCB: Practice Ballistic Cap
- Uses: PCB rounds are also used for training and practice purposes. They are similar to TB rounds but often feature a ballistic cap on the projectile's tip. The cap helps improve the round's aerodynamics and can simulate the flight characteristics of live ammunition more accurately.
6. ATGM: Anti-Tank Guided Missile
- Uses: ATGMs are missiles specifically designed to destroy or disable armored vehicles, including tanks.
7. HE: High Explosive
These rounds are used to destroy heavy fortifications or engage enemy infantry. They contain a large amount of TNT warhead inside them. There are also different types of HE rounds, such as HEF (High Explosive Fragmentation). These rounds scatter high-speed hot shrapnel in all directions upon exploding. Another type is HEC (High Explosive Cluster), where these rounds drop small explosive bombs to a moderate distance upon exploding.
There are even more types if rounds such as AP:- Armour piercing, APCR:- Armour piercing composite rigid l, APDS:- Armour piercing discarding sabot but these are too outdated these are used back in WW2
