This film was a real turning point in her career. Sure she was well respected before this but this film let her let loose and not stuck with an accent.

dtv2031 I love how much of a versatile actress she is but I really do think her role in adaptation really showed her complex side.
The Hours was in the same year, also a huge success, it won Best Drama here, then Prada made her a box office queen.
It's Devil Wears Prada, where we can argue Meryl Streep became MERYL STREEP. It was such outrageous fun when she was on screen. Considering it was followed by Mama Mia her highest grossing film to date, doubt, Julie and Julia and Iron lady and came with the third Academy Award.

She was brilliant, and her chemistry with Chris Cooper in Adaptation was phenomenal, and she deserved something for that movie, but not when Catherine Zeta-Jones gave her finest performance, and it would be better if Catherine won all 5 awards.
