I'm excited to see what you make of Underground Time - I haven't read it yet but love her other books.

    •  Před 5 lety

I didn't love it as much as Based on a True Story but still, it was really good!

So much fun to get up in the morning and see a new Booktube post by one of my favorites. (And I like the longer posts, Britta.) I hope to be able to return to do videos if I can get a good camera. Those look like fun and interesting books. I like that cover of Distant Signs a lot. Perhaps sometime you could do a post on great book covers, you think? Thanks so much!

I hope you will retunr & make video's again. I film on my computer/Iphone, by the way... And thank you for your suggestion re making a video about covers, brilliant idea!

Great TBR! I'm curious about Kate Roberts' book. I've been meaning to read a Svetlana Alexievich book for a long time. And I also like the sound of Richter's book (I like family stories). Eager to hear your thoughts on all these!

    •  Před 5 lety

You STILL havent read anything by Alexievich? Shame on you! LoL. And I'm really excited to start these four, will report back later this month. X

I'm also reading a Svetlana Alexievich book for WIT month! I'm reading Voices from Chernobyl, but I'm looking forward to seeing your thoughts on Boys In Zinc! It sounds fascinating

    •  Před 5 lety

Ah, yes Vices of Chernobyl is a great choice for WITMonth! And I will report back on Zinky Boys.

I read Alexievich's Voices from Chernobyl and was very affected by it so I would love to hear your thoughts on Boys In Zinc. admire the interview style she uses as well.

    •  Před 5 lety

Yes, indeed, Alexievich is amazing! The Chernoby-book but also her book about the fall of the Soviet Union (Secondhand Time). And I will report back on the Zinky Boys!

Such interesting choices. I’m very intrigued by the Welsh book. Anxious to hear your review.

    •  Před 5 lety

Thank you, Cheryl! And I will report back on the Welsh novel, of course.

I didn't know that WIT could include books in the original language ;-) But it makes sense for you and Mel to read Distant Signs in German. It does sound like an interesting book, actually, so I'm glad it's been translated into English. I can't wait to hear your thoughts and Mel's on it. Great video as usual, Britta!

    •  Před 5 lety +1

Hahaha, sometimes you just have to bend the rules a little, right? LoL.

Could you recommend a book which shows ww ll from German perspective? I'd appreciate that...

Edyta Rapacz I certainly won’t try to speak for Britta, but I am reading Anna Seghers’s novel The Seventh Cross right now for #WomenInTranslation month and so far I am absolutely loving it!

    •  Před 5 lety

What Shawn said! Anne Seghers is the best! Another authorI can recommend is Erich Maria Remarque, especially Night in Lissabon and Spark of Life.

@ Edyta Rapacz Another Erich Maria Remarque novel you may find interesting is “A Time to Love, A Time to Die.” A German soldier on a furlough from the Russian front returns to find his girlfriend and remnants of his life in a blitzed Berlin.
Also, Das Boot the exciting German submarine movie was based on a true story by Lothar-Gunther Buchheim, a survivor of the event.
