That’s a good teacher. Mine told me to rub my hand on the wall then imagine it at 50 mph and said that’s why u wear gear then proceeded to show me his scars from road rash on his legs. The mc teachers in the uk don’t mess about with it they will tell you the truth.

Or at least in Europe i know we're pretty serious about those things, and the exams aren't a complete joke either, both theory and practical. I'm from Belgium, had motorcycle classes all week but unfortunately ended up in the ER yesterday towards the end of my last riding lesson. I've got two splints and most likely a torn ligament in the knee, but i was wearing full protective gear. It could've been so much worse if i hadn't. On the surface except a few bruises i've got nothing at all. Edit : Got a completely torn anterior cruciate ligament and a fractured wrist 😂 FML ! Wear protection y'all ! If just to spare you the nasty road rashes !
You’re unusually lucky if you don’t ever have an accident on a bike. Every single person I know whose had a bike, including my dad - had “minor” accidents - but because they were on a bike it was major. My dad lost his entire left arm and has permanent nerve damage throughout the entire left side of his body, my friend skidded out and broke multiple bones and fucked his spine and has permanent excruciating nerve damage in his entire body (and is now overweight and has a cane as a young man). The LEAST any biker can do is to wear protective gear.

I know yall will ride regardless, but I'd still like to tell you the story of my 25 year old cousin who got sideswiped by a truck who blew a red light, landed in a ditch, lost his entire left arm and a year later still cant use his left leg. He was wearing full gear, didn't matter. It doesn't matter how safe you try to be when you're on a motorcycle when careless drivers can ruin your life in an instant. So please, for your mothers or significant others, just drive a car.

You were really lucky. I lost my BIL to a motorcycle accident 16 years ago. Like you, he was not wearing proper gear. A car pulled out in front of him and just like that he was gone. Every ride I go on now, I'm wearing my protective gear. Fellow bikers, I know it's hot with protective pants, boots, protective jacket, and helmet on but it's a small price to pay. Always prepare for the slide and not the drive. Even if it's legal in your state to not wear a helmet, I sincerely plead to you to still wear it. Even if it's the only protection you're wearing, at the very least use the helmet.
I doubt thin cotton is gonna make that much of a difference. also if you lay it down those shoes are flying off letting your feet grind down to your ankles. "rebel" riding gear might look cooler but won't really do much when you're sliding on the road at 70.

@PeeFunk2008 gear does alot you can put sandpaper machine for like 10 seconds on fiber gear to sand it down leather longer than that just view to road as sand paper good for tires to get optimum grip but bad for you're skin that why we wear shoes on the road to protect our feet from grinding to the bone.
NBT sells armored flannel jackets specially for riding. They also have armored hoodies and all with the same stuff as the riding jackets. Not sure about the sneakers tho.
Another part of riding in shorts and tank top is that the wind chill factor on knees, elbows etc can mess up your joints something fierce when you get older. Know truck drivers that constantly in the summer, before AC's, had their left elbow hanging out the window while driving and now have severe arthritis like problems in that elbow.

This is why I clear this up, when folks say "motorcycles are dangerous" No sir - cars, deer, dogs, armadillos, etc are "dangerous" bikes are "vulnerable". I'm not saying ride around scared BUT always remember - you are surrounded by things that can KILL you on ACCIDENT. That is seriously vulnerable. For real, imagine how low mtc fatalities would be if that all there were on the road. I've been on countries where bikes are the rule, cars are the exception. Riding is a whole different experience.

Even though you have gear on you still need to be careful because back in 2021 my dad had gotten a motorcycle and one day he had decided that he was going to ride on the highway for the first time then he wiped out on a patch of loose gravel and he was flown off his bike and was tumbling down the freeway he spent at least 4 months in the hospital and was paralyzed from the waste down he had a 6 inch deep wound that is still healing to this day but i still remember the day that my grandparents had picked me up from school and they said that my dad was in a motorcycle wreck and was in the hospital
that's why I always wear a helmet when taking a shower. it's not if you'll fall in the shower it's when. Everyone will fall in the shower eventually. I also only showed once a week for risk prevention
As a guy who had the little electric razor crotch rocket as a kid, I know what those burns relatively feel like. Now at 24 and planning on getting my first ride after I take the safety course, I absolutely plan to have riding gear on. If not for me, for my parents, because I'd never wish upon them the grief of my early death for an avoidable mistake.

Saw your bike at LOF like three years ago, commented when i saw your video. That i had saw it , i had a harley and a cb1000. Now im in a wheelchair from a truck hitting me on hypo and congress on my way to work. And i wore gear, gloves, boots, jacket, helmet, pants , backpack. Guy ran a stop sign coming outta of a side road 8am October 7th 2022, and my life chnaged forever. Please be safe
I too learned the hard way. I had to lay it down to avoid dying, the road rash I received was epic. When I got to the ER, the nurses took those short, black bristled scrubbers and began to scrape out the asphalt imbedded in my leg. It was horrible. From that moment on I never rode bare legged. And in Indiana, we don't have helmet laws. Once you take a June bug to the forehead at 70 mph, you learn the laws of physics the HARD way...
@@brinkipinki I am a good rider. I am very careful, thoughtful, considerate and conscience of others. But that means nothing when others do things to you that you have zero control over. Like when you approach a stoplight and the truck behind you doesn't stop in time, crunching you. Or a bird flies in front of you and hits your headlight, then into your jacket that's halfway unzipped and you can feel it thrashing around inside because it's injured and panicked and you're going 60 mph. Happened to me a few years ago. THAT'S where the gear comes into play. Yes, I have avoided many accidents with skill and the natural agility and unobstructed view that a motorcycle provides. But when you're 100% correct and still get into a wreck, those long pants, gloves, helmet and boots will be the difference between a trip to the ER or the morgue. Happens every single day.

I’ll be honest there’s too many wild crazy riders on CZcams showcasing all their bad habits and dangerous stunts without gear, so I appreciate this, after losing a few friends to motorcycle crashes I still never decided to ride. Ride safe and remember life ain’t worth one good ride of adrenaline.
I will never stop riding but you are right about the adrenaline part. I used to love seeing how fast I could take mountain curves. One low side and a bunch of nasty road rash changed my outlook. I still love the curves but am a lot more cautious. It could have been so much worse.
What, put on a long sleeve shirt and think it's riding gear? Bruvs going to have that thing melted into his skin or torn off before he realises his back skin is stretched 400 meters across the interstate.
Motorcycles can teach you a lot about life but its best for someone else to teach you from there mistakes on them. hurts lot less. father still has gravel in his leg from when he crashed 40 years ago. when I wanted to ride, he went out and bought one also and showed me how to ride and went riding with me for awhile to he new I was going to be safe on the road. thanks dad.
What I love about his gear, made in China, the newer still is okay but the aramid license to ride pants doesn’t hold a candle to a pair of jeans you can get from 4SR or similar brands. And unlike Harley or Dainese they don’t inflate their price due to their “success”.

Every time im on the road or outside and I see someone on a motorcycle without gear, I can't stop myself from physically cringing. Why would anyone wear flip-flops and basketball shorts on a bike without a helmet. You can never be too safe

It isnt, not having your brains splattered everywhere is more cool. I always wear a helmet. That thing saved me from getting my brains splattered when i got into a car accident while biking. I grew up with my parents in the funeral business. My family specialized in funeral transports. When I was 18 I went to pick up a guy that was 1 year minus a day older than me. Motorcycle accident. He came in 3 bags.
I know people that ride AGAT, one couple on big full dress h-d got gas, was sitting at the lot to leave and got hit so hard they hit the awning over the pumps. He does on sit, she cracked her eye socket and was in a coma. She woke up after the funeral. Several other similar stories. Gear won’t always save you, when it’s your time, it’s your time. Doesn’t matter what you wear or do. I ride without gear, I’ve been hit twice, both times riding responsibly. Last time I broke my spine, shattered my pelvis, I have rods in my back, new hip, plates and screws in the other. I was doing 60, cracked my eye socket slightly. Gear wouldn’t have saved my back or hips because how I was hit. The bike stopped and I went into the handle bars. I’m on a cane now and due to nerve damage some muscles don’t work. But I still ride same as always. Gear makes you feel safe, makes you feel invincible.. you’re not
As a UK motorcycle instructor and racer... I recommend everyone wear at least a good pair of boots, Helmet, and gloves. AT THE LEAST. I never ride without full protection on and never hit the track without my full race suit.
My mom often tells me stories about people like that: some lose half the meat of one leg to the meat crayon, some scrape off a single tendon and can never walk again and oftentimes it's even worse. She works as a truss maker (she builds the walking aids and prosthetic limbs for them).
Rule no. 1 of riding:
Dress for the slide, not the ride.

Everyone's a tough guy until they're sliding across the pavement. The road doesn't take it easy on anyone no matter how tough they think they are.

NBT sells armored flannel jackets specially for riding. They also have armored hoodies and all with the same stuff as the riding jackets. Not sure about the sneakers tho.
Another part of riding in shorts and tank top is that the wind chill factor on knees, elbows etc can mess up your joints something fierce when you get older. Know truck drivers that constantly in the summer, before AC's, had their left elbow hanging out the window while driving and now have severe arthritis like problems in that elbow.

This is why I clear this up, when folks say "motorcycles are dangerous" No sir - cars, deer, dogs, armadillos, etc are "dangerous" bikes are "vulnerable". I'm not saying ride around scared BUT always remember - you are surrounded by things that can KILL you on ACCIDENT. That is seriously vulnerable. For real, imagine how low mtc fatalities would be if that all there were on the road. I've been on countries where bikes are the rule, cars are the exception. Riding is a whole different experience.

Even though you have gear on you still need to be careful because back in 2021 my dad had gotten a motorcycle and one day he had decided that he was going to ride on the highway for the first time then he wiped out on a patch of loose gravel and he was flown off his bike and was tumbling down the freeway he spent at least 4 months in the hospital and was paralyzed from the waste down he had a 6 inch deep wound that is still healing to this day but i still remember the day that my grandparents had picked me up from school and they said that my dad was in a motorcycle wreck and was in the hospital

As a guy who had the little electric razor crotch rocket as a kid, I know what those burns relatively feel like.
Now at 24 and planning on getting my first ride after I take the safety course, I absolutely plan to have riding gear on. If not for me, for my parents, because I'd never wish upon them the grief of my early death for an avoidable mistake.

Luckily i was raised around bikes so know to wear proper gear. I also know that the more your gear looks like clothes, the less protective it will usually be.
That is actually not true. All of our gear is lined with Kevlar and offers CE armor for impact protection. Gear doesn’t have to look like “gear”

I too learned the hard way. I had to lay it down to avoid dying, the road rash I received was epic. When I got to the ER, the nurses took those short, black bristled scrubbers and began to scrape out the asphalt imbedded in my leg. It was horrible. From that moment on I never rode bare legged. And in Indiana, we don't have helmet laws. Once you take a June bug to the forehead at 70 mph, you learn the laws of physics the HARD way...

@@brinkipinki I am a good rider. I am very careful, thoughtful, considerate and conscience of others. But that means nothing when others do things to you that you have zero control over. Like when you approach a stoplight and the truck behind you doesn't stop in time, crunching you. Or a bird flies in front of you and hits your headlight, then into your jacket that's halfway unzipped and you can feel it thrashing around inside because it's injured and panicked and you're going 60 mph. Happened to me a few years ago. THAT'S where the gear comes into play. Yes, I have avoided many accidents with skill and the natural agility and unobstructed view that a motorcycle provides. But when you're 100% correct and still get into a wreck, those long pants, gloves, helmet and boots will be the difference between a trip to the ER or the morgue. Happens every single day.

I know a man who blew out on a bridge and rode the wall till he started flipping and a road sign chopped his calf completely in half. He’s never recovered fully but he’s riding now and that helmet has saved his life more times than I know.

I’ll be honest there’s too many wild crazy riders on CZcams showcasing all their bad habits and dangerous stunts without gear, so I appreciate this, after losing a few friends to motorcycle crashes I still never decided to ride. Ride safe and remember life ain’t worth one good ride of adrenaline.
I will never stop riding but you are right about the adrenaline part. I used to love seeing how fast I could take mountain curves. One low side and a bunch of nasty road rash changed my outlook. I still love the curves but am a lot more cautious. It could have been so much worse.
I work on construction sites and I'm always reminding people to wear their helmets. You don't need it until you need it. Wear it.

What I love about his gear, made in China, the newer still is okay but the aramid license to ride pants doesn’t hold a candle to a pair of jeans you can get from 4SR or similar brands. And unlike Harley or Dainese they don’t inflate their price due to their “success”.

no matter what wear africking helmet as a kid i see so many people cycling or skateboarding or scootering without helmets or driving without seatbelts saying its manly. It isnt, not having your brains splattered everywhere is more cool. I always wear a helmet. That thing saved me from getting my brains splattered when i got into a car accident while biking. I was able to get off fine because i wore a helmet
I grew up with my parents in the funeral business. My family specialized in funeral transports. When I was 18 I went to pick up a guy that was 1 year minus a day older than me. Motorcycle accident. He came in 3 bags.

I know people that ride AGAT, one couple on big full dress h-d got gas, was sitting at the lot to leave and got hit so hard they hit the awning over the pumps. He does on sit, she cracked her eye socket and was in a coma. She woke up after the funeral. Several other similar stories. Gear won’t always save you, when it’s your time, it’s your time. Doesn’t matter what you wear or do. I ride without gear, I’ve been hit twice, both times riding responsibly. Last time I broke my spine, shattered my pelvis, I have rods in my back, new hip, plates and screws in the other. I was doing 60, cracked my eye socket slightly. Gear wouldn’t have saved my back or hips because how I was hit. The bike stopped and I went into the handle bars. I’m on a cane now and due to nerve damage some muscles don’t work. But I still ride same as always. Gear makes you feel safe, makes you feel invincible.. you’re not

As a UK motorcycle instructor and racer... I recommend everyone wear at least a good pair of boots, Helmet, and gloves. AT THE LEAST.

My mom often tells me stories about people like that: some lose half the meat of one leg to the meat crayon, some scrape off a single tendon and can never walk again and oftentimes it's even worse. She works as a truss maker (she builds the walking aids and prosthetic limbs for them).
I always wear a thick suit on when I ride my bike even if it’s hot outside because I don’t end up in a clinic for burn victims.
