Saint Paul History: Como Park

In 1873, when the county purchased 300 acres around Lake Como, many folks thought turning it into a park was a waste of good land.

Back in the 60's my dad would take us several times a year to Como Park. We loved visiting the beautiful conservatory in the winter and the zoo in the summer. Anyone else remember Sparky the seal?

I believe Frankson donated some of the land to como park, his mansion is at the midway parkway gate entrance to the park at Hamline, what about the steam engine that was on display there
