- This is just a demonstration on efficient use of the tools and what to expect when you have a game plan. Of course I take 4 times as long on my normal shaping due to measuring, measuring and more measuring and making sure that each step is perfect before I move onto the next step.
An absolute artist , great video showing every step
Thank you
Nice time capsule of the art of hand shaping thanks for sharing
Thank you for sharing your skills. Because of your videos, it motivates me to be a shaper. Thanks a lot and May God bless you always♥️🤙🏽
Thank you, I appreciate it
I love watching you shape Matt. Much respect and admiration
i grew up in a shaping room.
this is as real as it gets. dont blink, cuz youll miss something important!!!!!!
if I ever get out your way I would love to sit in on a couple of boards that you shape . mad skills
Love the use of the sander. I bet you could make one using only that tool.
Finally someone using a circular saw...I kept wondering why anyone would still be using/spending time on a handsaw to cut shape especially considering you have an electrical outlet nearby for your planer;)
The circular saw works so much better but I think it is scarry to use for most that do not have a construction background....
Kazuma Kinoshita Surfboards totally makes sense, glad I saw it done and understand it’s no problem if your comfortable with the tool. Thanks, keep it poppin!
love this shaping video thankyou
Wow Master of Craft! I want to start and helps a lot your teaching!

Tony Smith. Thank you for the support, I am glad that my videos help you. There is usually more in them than meets the eye and it is interesting to me to see what people get from them based on experience etc. Aloha, Matt Kazuma Kinoshita
Is it always a race or is this your normal working pace or rhythm?
This is definitely not my normal pace. I did this strictly for showing the steps, technique and process that i use without any fluff or filler. Makes for a video that will actually be watched. There was no measuring which would add 15 minutes, no looking and checking which would add 15 minutes and no fine finishing which could easily add 20 to 30 minutes.
That was amazing.
Mercer Barrows. thank you. Many years of perfecting my steps has led me o this place of high effu
Is that grit 40 on the soft pad after the Hitachi?
It is 60 grit
Hey Matt, still waiting on my delivery from Shaper Supply! It's been a month bra! Do you believe it! LOL Btw, what size Milwaukee Fuel circular 6" or 7 1/2"? Do you like the way it cuts and do you use it often?.....Rich
Gets you thinking how so little time can be put into the work, yet after paying the big 700$. consumers will keep the board and repair it till the point it rots, as if it is unexchangeable. I still keep and repair the same rusty 5,3 I got 3 years ago, and cost me 250$ second hand.
What kinda pad are you using on the Milwaukee when cutting in concaves and smoothing planer lines? Thanks
It's a softie pad from flexpad
Thanks!
One more, what grit paper do you have on the pad? Thanks
Sorry and is it a 6” or 8” pad?
