  • It is the year 1999 and all through the house everything was stirring in fear for the end of the world. At least, that is what Toei decided to do for their basis for their sequel to Gingaman titled GoGoFive, a series about a family of rescue workers who have to battle an evil family of demons. Are the GoGoFive the heroes Japan needs? Or do they need to be saved from their ineptitude? Watch to find out.

    Go Go Five is one of my FAVORITE Sentai series. Plus, it's the first Sentai I ever watched from beginning to end so it has a special place in my heart.
    Plus, I love the theme of turning rescue workers into Super Heroes.

    Great review. GoGoFive is a pretty underrated series but I've always enjoyed it. Especially the two opposing family themes this season had. The ranger suits and the monster suits were amazing in GoGoFive. Glad to see the series on DVD and get some love. I also can't wait to get my own copy of it too.

It has quite possibly my favourite suit designs. Also, I think GoGoV Vs Ohranger would have been better since they both take themselves more seriously and both take place in 1999.

    I really liked GoYellow despite him getting so few focus episodes. The Thanatos episode was indeed a chore though. Overall I liked GoGoV, the plot was kinda tiresome and the ground battles are light on intricate action but fantastic music, cool monster designs, plenty of memorable episodes, and a solid cast elevate it. Also it has possibly my favorite Sentai mech ever, Grand Liner!

      @@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Go Go Five" to be a very exciting squadron series that certainly ranks with the better seasons in this long running series of live-action "super-powered task force" shows. There is a lot of picturesque location work in the series. I also like the miniature effects very much, especially the long shots showing the giant mecha-giant monster battles set firmly in the sprawling landscape of Capital City. In addition, the giant rescue vehicles and the tracks that take them throughout the city are pretty spectacular and far more "realistic" than the other squadron shows😊

    Definetly deserves a 5 grownups in spandex mark. The premise of a heroic family VS a villanous one is something that hasn't been done before or since, so lot's of depths happened on this series (like Prof Mondo trying to reconnect with his childrens in the 1st half, the Villains desperate love for Grandiene, and the sibling moments) while still playing the rescue theme straight. I first saw GogoV in the VS movie of Timeranger and i think they are pretty cool since l liked PR LSR, and watched it a few weeks ago and it didn't dissapoint. Liking the Heroes (and Matoi reminds me of Makito of Magiranger), One of the best set of Villains ever (especially Zelpheeza), and of course the first that tried to implement realism (well for a kids show at least). Nice review kaiju

    Lesson of the day: Milk enables you to channel Segata Sanshiro.
    Looking at Denus here and seeing how they managed to bring her to Power Rangers as Vypra, is it really that difficult to adapt human villains? Even if the argument is "They'll need to shoot new scenes with the Rangers", don't they do it all the time? And what about all PR-Originals like Zedd, Mesogog, Devatox, Sledge? Or hell, the original Reta was a human villain and they dubbed her dialogue and brought another actress to play her so it's not like it was never done before.

    GoGo-V is one of the best Sentais... not just from the 90's but all-time. The plots in this show are not your standard fare Sentai; they are well thought out and often times surprising to watch. My favorite episode is easily episode 13, "The Younger Sibling's Rebellion". That episode is every reason why Matoi is one the best reds in the franchise. He clearly lives up to his name and it shows through the entirety of the show. I also loved Matsuri from the very beginning; she carries the heart and soul that's needed in their mother's absence. Nagare, Shou and Daimon have their moments, albeit they are more spread throughout the episodes.
    The Psyma are also a very competent bunch of villains. I think Cobolda was underrepresented, but even Denus pulled off some serious stunts against this team. Modern Sentai should take some cues on how to execute its villains. **Cough** Zyuohger *Cough*. Seriously... Zylpheeza was the best of this bunch, and some of his actions here will makes sense, especially if you watch Lightspeed Rescue's finale. There's a lot of dynamics within both of these families, and that's exactly what made this entertaining from start to finish.
    Also, thank you to Toei for showing us what a true hero is. "People's lives are the Earth's future" should be one of the proudest lines ever recited in this franchise's history.

    Just finished GoGo V. Easily one of my favorite seasons. All the rangers were great, loved the villains (especially Zylpheeza), I liked the realistic tones, and the story was solid. Their greatest strengths were excellent character dynamics, courage, and they really synced well with each other. This team felt like they had a genuine bond. I really want to give it a 5 out of 5 myself but I'm hitting it with a 4. One gripe. I really thought Kyoko should have been their 6th. That's one thing Lightspeed Rescue did better. I think with this it means you've reviewed every 90 Sentai, too, which is really neat! Surprised to hear that this is so good. Just finished Dairanger and moved on to Ohranger as it was the next cheapest I could afford, and I'm likely to go with Carranger over Kaku or Zyu afterwards. But I will certainly keep this in mind. Is the idea that some folks have about this being what OhRanger should have been the begin with a reasonable one? Is it akin to that show, but better, in terms of an evil empire?
    And honestly, I'm pretty shocked that I don't recognize many of the scenes in this video from Lightspeed Rescue. Makes me wonder if they even used the Sentai footage outside of mech fights much at all. I know they did the Crossover episode and it had that weird Gingaman morph instead of the one LG got (though IMO, Gingaman's morph is better)

    • @TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork
      @TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork  Před 6 lety +1

      Well since I count 2000 as the end of the 90s, I'll do video celebration during my Timeranger review. :-p
      As for how GoGoFive relates to Ohranger, I think they only compare it because both shows take place in 1999. Other than that, there's really nothing to compare the two. If people mean by tone, then yeah, this is what Ohranger should have been from start to finish.
      As for LSR, I can't comment since I've seen like two episodes (maybe), but since the show created its own sixth ranger, I wouldn't be surprised if they stuck to mostly mech footage for it.
