    Both genders need help in their own ways. One gender is overly seen as timid, and the other is seen as overly strong.

    Don't get me wrong, I love Mayim Bialik, she is the realest deal, but I wonder, could a science man in "today's world" get away with writing a book about being a girl? Even if that science man was also a dad of daughters?

      She didn't write a book about BEING a boy, she wrote a about RAISING boys. Dad's have written books about raising daughters from a dad's perspective...

    • @HereForTheComments
      @HereForTheComments Před 6 lety +1

      The book is called "Boying Up: How to be Bold, Brave, and Brilliant." The title suggests that it's about how to "boy up." How to be a boy. Unless the title is wrong and what's in the book is different?

    • @erinokay9991
      @erinokay9991 Před 6 lety +9

      This is a fair point! And, if you listen closely, Mayim addresses this. She seeks insight and testimony from her own boys and adult males because she acknowledges that alone she is ill-equipped to write about "boyness" on her own.
      This should be the practice any time a person is aiming to provide insight on a group of people whom they do not personally represent or a community to which they dont belong. But often it is not.

      Even asking for input from dudes, I don't think she's gotten as much backlash about this book as other men do when they write about "women only" topics. Plenty of men write about things, and they can cite women who agree with them. Because they'll need to when those men are called out for potentially not having the perspectives to write about this stuff on their own.
      Man writes a book about a woman's issue. He gets called out. He says "Here's my credentials, here's people I consulted who agree with me." Mayim Bialik, she never reached that "Get questioned by people who doubt her credentials" phase. Except right now, by me, a single person in a comments section she'll never read. That's where I see a double standard. That she didn't at least get called out for this and reach the "Let me explain" phase. This happens to men all the time.
