Surprised the commentators didn’t mention that Ronaldo officially became the biggest goal scorer in history now with that goal
Ikr, theres just a lot of stats going around regarding that. Some say Ronaldo has 777 official career goals, some say 760. Same goes for Bican also, it would be said that he scored 759 goals, then come across another statistic saying he has 805. He (Bican) probably has 805 since the commentators never mentioned anything of Ronaldo breaking the record.

How can that ever be a penalty when the opponent was behind him and he was clearly about to kick the ball? Weird VAR.

Unintentional or not, the rule is if you get your body between the player and the ball then technically you’ve won possession of the ball. Attacker got his whole leg between the Defender and the ball so in that very instance he had possession (this only applies whilst the player with possession of the ball is not in stride, otherwise that would’ve been called the opposite way). It’s ridiculous to think but at that point Defender has to be aware of that. No one ever really is aware of those kinds of scenarios because they’re likely to never happen. It’s a rare occurrence. It’s unfortunate but you can’t really blame McKennie for that foul. That was just great offensive instinct/awareness by Mertens. I guess you could say he has Quality football IQ.

It was penalty. Mertens won the ball back and Mckennie didn't realize Mertens was behind him, that's his fault, he is lack awareness but i can't blame Mckennie, i just said he is lack awareness.
