The first time I heard this song was on the radio. Didn't realize it was the same song/composer the entire commute (and yea, I wasn't the biggest of classical music fans), but by the time I got to the office, lets just say I was a lot more contemplative then when I left home. Amazingly beautiful, and this performance is very well done.

Suena de tal forma que la poesía se hace ante la noche estrellada, formando nuevas constelaciones dentro de un Orden que no tiene límites. Pero esta interpretación supera incluso lo que uno había escuchado: al ver al muchacho violinista... uno siente su sentimiento, y el sentimiento puro de la Musicalidad. Glorioso de verdad, gracias!

I love that the only loud thing in this is the applause at the end. I also think leaving in the coughing is a good choice. In any classical venue, people cough between movements. They've been holding it in. For Arvo, though, there are constant moments of silence. In a live performance, this actually reminds you that humans are listening. I actually like to be reminded that other humans are listening when I'm listening to something so incredibly sad.
That was to be my comment! And it seems to come and go depending on the musical passage. How the musicians carry on - I guess they are too immersed to be distracted. I think at about 26' one man couldn't stop and took himself out of the hall.

Ok serious stupid question. There are no microphones. So those violins have to be loud as shit. How are they not deaf after like 10000 hours of practice?
they sound louder in these concert halls because of the reverb echos etc. also they sound louder because there are a bunch playing at once. my violin when I play at home is about as loud as someone speaking in a raised voice but not yelling ..if that makes any sense.
the acoustics of the hall they play in has the same effects on these mouth breathers coughs u are hearing. sitting at home in your bedroom a cough isn't that loud. but in there it is
