@@shizukagozen777 I think they said that because the story is inspired by fairytales (and forbidden love). Kinda like Princess Tutu, i guess ? While Princess Tutu is inspired by The Ugly Duckling and Swan Lake, Goodbye Lara is inspired by The Little Mermaid.
I am so happy that I'm not the only one who can't hear "Waltz of the Flowers" without thinking of Tutu anymore XD
glad i ain't the only one who thought of tutu. An animal/creature falling in love with a human and then tries to become human themselves is one of my favorite kinds of stories.
Plus, the classical music, the transformation, boy this really screams princess tutu!

I think it’s more of a folklore fantasy than isekai. It has that princess Tutu vibe

Ordinarily I dislike how absolutely every story about mermaids is a retelling of The Little Mermaid, but this actually seems like a fresh and unique take on it. I will take it!!

I just noticed in the thumbnail her TONGUE is STICHED because she gave up her voice to have feet 😭
The seam on her tongue makes me think there’s gonna be a little bit of Frankenstein in here too, and that’s how she came back to life
In the original story she can't speak because the sea witch takes her tongue. Also at the end of the story they reference that in hundreds of years she may have the chance to gain a human soul by working as a Daughter of Air - I imagine the anime will be based on that but again turning her into a human instead of gaining the soul to go to Heaven.

Really ? That's the first time that I hear that after hundreds of years she can regain her soul. Why do I hear about it only now when I've read so many TLM books as a kid ? 😧
@@shizukagozen777I think it may depend on the versions. On the one i've read, they say that she became a Daughter of Air but they don't talk about how children being nice will help her get a soul faster.
@@shizukagozen777the original one by Hans Christian Anderson. Although disney very much censored the scary parts for kids, and many other retellings have also made it a bit less scary.

oh my gosh this is soooo beautiful!! I am so excited for this series. The team has done such an incredible job with the colors and style and animation. I feel like a real stand out animation moment is the blade opening its mouth and salivating, and the little mermaid bursting out of the water.

I like the details with her tongue because the original Little Mermaid she actually had her tongue cut off that's why your tongue looks weird with the close-up shots of her because her tongue was cut off and that's why she couldn't talk

I don't know if a full show can live up to how ludicrously good this concept trailer is. It's simultaneously nostalgic and a flex on what modern animation can do. The character design, color palette, backgrounds, lighting, it's all so good, but I'm concerned that it could end up rushed. Imo it absolutely should not be released until it's completely in the can. it's so ambitious that they'd be crazy to put it on a tight schedule, and yet, anime industry go brrrrr.
