More About "Decima":
Set in a distant future, a ‘species’ of robotic shamans called the Vi survive through the harvesting of dreams from the human subconscious to predict the future.
DECIMA is the titular matriarch and the last remaining biological human who can dream. When the Vi discover Decima is terminally ill, they attempt to extract her soul in order to place it into an immortal vessel; an Oracle called The Rune.
Produced for the legendary design conference OFFF Barcelona, whom granted GMUNK the opportunity to craft their 20th anniversary title sequence with the highest honor.
The film focuses on the human condition and examines the deep emotional connection to loss and rebirth, exploring themes of mortality, empowerment, soul passage, and illumination.

Started out interesting, soon you can't tell whats going on. Someone really likes lasers.
ik, right? Laser light show...never did understand anything after the lasers started up...
Bedazzled by the shiny things.
Exactly what I thought, the lasers were just way to much and I kept watching hoping something would change but nope. So yeah, this one gets a thumbs down from me. It seems like as time go's by they just keep getting worse, kind of like music nowadays and fashion to, everything really.
@@vaevobis3589 LOL!
yeah, this is the kinda thing you film for the end or middle of a season of an ongoing story. The short film ends at 6 minutes, after that its pretty nothing.
I don't ever remember having been more bored. In order for there to be a story, there must be highs and lows, that make the viewer take an interest. This felt like I was watching an add for lasers and cheap synth tricks for concert venues back in '09. Hope they learn and grow from... whatever this was.
Well said
Ad for shower liquid soap, I'd say.
15 mins I'll never get back,a light show.
The answer to the question, "what if a club DJ made a short film?"
Yup. Not much to the story. Just a woman lying down, surrounded by club lights. It went on far too long.
😂
Yep Sound track way too load for the vocal track!!! As a english speaker with good hearing, I should not have had to use the CC to understand what was being said.
I am quite hermetic to this kind of film. Nothing happens, and even nothing is really spoken. Spectacular movement of laser light but cloud be done in 30”.
Well ... there it goes 15 minutes of my life ...
And now I will teach you how to watch or listen at double+ speed ...
Agree.
Lol, I just said exactly the same to my girlfriend. 😂
@@damianscott71 Oh noooo .... you have a girlfriend ... there it goes your life ... :)))
IKR? I couldn't imagine anyone almost falling asleep in the middle of a 15 minute show. But I did lolssss
About 2 minutes of actual content, and 13 minutes of an old Laserium show. The sad thing was, this was an interesting concept with an ethical question that should have been explored. Instead, Decima is given absolutely no agency at all. She never gets to decide if she wants to go on, be changed, or just let humanity die off. This should have been the focus.
Instead, we got characters droning on in monotone, strange flashes of Decima in the rain? And no real conflict. And 13 minutes of a laser light show. Oh, and no resolution.
Sorry, Dust, this one was just bad.
An idea many lasers not a film, much too long ng an useless
Lasarium!!! Holy heck. 🤘Not since I was a child. And that’s over 45 years ago...my one and only Lasarium show was Portland Oregon, back when it was still an awesome place... I was 5.
It was much better than this.
Lasers and a naked girl in the shower was the real reason for this !
Someone had fun with the editing here !
@@danabana8121 We'd go and watch the laser show to Dark Side of the Moon while utterly stoned. Great times!
Hahaha. Was thinking the same. Laserium in NYC in early 70s. I'm in my early 70s too.
Figuring the youngsters on YT would not relate, I was going to mention a Queen concert, tho, truth be told, I've never attended one.
A few shiny lasers trying vainly to support the tiniest seed of an unfinished story.
I really don't know what to make of this other than outstanding light show & ominous music score.... kinda putting me to sleep...
Beautiful visuals, sounds, and music. I thought the story was initially compelling, but there was no ending and that left me cold.
Music was way too loud
@@mikeuk666 Dont message anyone on telegram, Its a scam!
someone spent an absurd amount of money, time, and effort into sticking lasers onto industrial robots, then tried to turn it into a sci-fi short to justify it.
Started strong, ended with a light show. Story died.
I really wanted to see the new Rune species that she transferred into so that was disappointing. This could be good if the extra long light show was cut and an ending added.
Thanks to all the honest commentors.
This had potential, outside the endless laser show. That could have been shortened to a few minutes and the rest of the time given to expanding a storyline that had a lot of potential. 3/10
no, it really didn't.
Looks amazing, started off good and then just kind of turned into what felt like a 1980s synth concert would be like.
background music drowns out the voices
Glad I was not the only one
Takes another hit off the pipe...watches again.
I don't know why, but for me this really gives off Rammstein- Deutschland vibes
Dunno how you got that. This doesn't resemble Rammstein in the *slightest* to me. Nowhere near as dirty, gritty or as greyed down as anything I've seen them do.
Happy to read other comments. I felt let down and I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who didn’t like it. That was comforting
Visually impressive and beautifully filmed. The writing is secondary, which makes this a cinematography demo reel. Somebody wants a job as a music video director? ✌️
Demo reels are ok Dust just let me know before I click. 👌
The music sounded like a beginning for a Rammstein song..
Very artistic robotics demonstration. The geometric laser armatures were also cool 😂
yeah that ending was leaving Much to be desired
I bailed after 12 minutes. Glad to hear I didn't miss anything.
Very "Blade Runner" ish mixed with a smattering of "LOgans Run". Left me questioning what was happening at the end.
The implementation of the writer's/director's vision was more suited for the early 80s. The laser lights and dramatic music reminded me of movies like Blade Runner.
That’s 10 minutes of my life that I’ll never get back.
Meh. While visibly interesting, the "procedure" was too long and the audio sountrack was overpowered for my taste. I was left wanting to see her reincarnated form.
Makes no sense, sorry.
I know. They should've extended the laser part by 3⁶.7 minutes
Did you forget to micro dose prior to watching? 😊
@@cbennet1 😂
😂👍🏽
Very imaginative!
The background music and noise is so loud, hard to get the dialog.
Yes terrible
Lady was put in stasis 67 years ago because she was dying of cancer like incurable cell disorder.
Awakens 50 years after mass human extinction. Ai bot plans to use her as seed for new intelligent human race of immortals.
Long music/laser show.
She awakens... a new humanity to birth.
I get it. You guys just didn't give enough attention. Maybe a long history of Twilight Zone would help...?
Visually stunning and a great synth-heavy soundtrack, but... kind of lacking in follow-through to the initial premise.
Amazing light show👌🏻
Very bizarre in a good way. I thought I was watching an ELO concert.
Whatever they had before making that, I hope they brought enough to share with the clas
Thanks for the CC :-)
I'm always fascinated by the variety of human perception. How numerous individuals can be exposed to the same content yet a myriad of interpretations emerge from it. A large segment seem to have been confused by what they experienced. Some enjoyed what they simply regarded as a nice lazer light show. And still others felt compelled to denigrate the production, reducing it to a waste of time. It speaks volumes as to the state of Western consciousness in these times. For me, the film was a choreographed piece rather than one centered upon dialogue in it's typically urbane Hollywood sense. It's more Spoken Word with obbligato. Indeed some of the best movies has not one iota of it. I saw a dance: between characters, lights, machines, Life, Death, souls and ultimately Consciousness.

That’s an interesting comment, thanks for sharing.
@@MissMarinaCapri My pleasure SiStar! I'm glad I could be of service to you. ❣️🙏🏾❣️

Was this meant to be some sort of avant garde production? ...if only they'd put a fraction of the laser budget into audio mixing so fx sounds vs dialog weren't completely out of whack like most every other short film.
Totally agree, very few people manage to get the audio right and the balance here was way off !
It sounded like they got halfway through with the mixing and gave up thinking "it's taking too long, it have to will do" !
Good audio can make a huge difference to how a film is perceived, bad audio has a negative effect on the audience !
This is something I'd expect from a 80's movie, though it had potential to be more. Was Decima to be reincarnated into a new being or someone of the past? Where not only her soul but certain parts of her DNA also traveled. The twist, would also be that what ever ailment she had also carried over in various potentials.
Intriguing premise!
I think the visuals should be coupled with some Pink Floyd. Only way it would make sense.
the visuals, music and sound effects was so stunning, but the story/message was kinda bizzare.
Really we done with great production but feels more like a performing arts show to me.
felt the same - very effective (though not as a short film)
While weak on substance, it had solid emotion and style. I enjoyed it.
It cures cancer, renders the patient incarnate, and puts on a great light show, but will my Medicare pay for it? I enjoyed the visuals.
Budget, 99% lasers, 1% costumes
Seems as if I’ve seen this before.... a few times... I’m thinking that this is similar to the various “Frankenstein”movies.
In “I am Frankenstein” the remanufactured man learns and evolves into something more than he was and lives into the future. So it was in “Young Frankenstein”, but much more entertaining.
I thought it was a Jean-Michael Jarre video; then I saw the word Dust.....
Ça me rappelle un concert de Jean Michel Jarre des années 80. Son et lumières...
3/4 way in and i must say: this video is great if you try to fall asleep 😛😂
Strange and a touch perplexing.
Reminds me of the Laserium shows I went to back in the 70s. All that's missing is some Pink Floyd or the song "Kohoutek" by Journey.
😊
The matrix 10.0. AI doesn't need us as "copper tops" anymore. It needs our ability to think outside the box.
Even underboob couldn't salvage this thing. I was intrigued at first (even before the underboob), but I couldn't stick with it.
Christ. So many people commenting "no story" or "just lasers". This is something to be _experienced._ NOT something to be handed to you like the message in a cheap fortune cookie. How many people were on their phones trying to play something created for a big screen and a large sound system? 🤔
So.. was her soul extracted?
Can someone explain the ending?
And the beginning and the part in between.
@@besenwieslersepp1011 :D yes
she found out the future and it make her sad
That Was Quite A Light Show . . .
Visually interesting, very original concept that is out there... but... the further out you go with the concept, the more you need a narrative. Here it becomes too easy to lose track of the concept because the narrative is buried under sound effects and terminology. *An audience generally wants to watch and be entertained by a video, not have to study intensely and repeat to understand what is happening.*
I feel this may have been a very abstract, laser/ smoke & mirror show about how AI may someday try to harvest our non-scientifically proven 'Soul' & how this patient sacrificed herself to try & reprogram the AI to "Hail the Rune" they promised her so that a human consciousness would regain control.?!
I'm not sure every part of this was as successful as it could have been, but I 100% endorse slightly more bonkers endeavors like this.
DUST goes Disco...!!!
Blonde dude: human existence is dead
Audience: then why are you, blonde dude existing?
Dust: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I feel like this was trying to take away my soul, maybe would've worked for a music video, not a movie.
When you have lasers, smoke, LEDs and no story.
AI had to get consent to harvest the soul. She gave consent because she was dying, but had a plan to take over/ reprogram the AI. AI promised the possibility of eternal life through the Rune & she exploited that to reprogram the AI to 'Hail the Rune' and essentially obey her commands thereby regaining control over AI & placing back in the hands of a 'human consciousness' in the form of a Rune.
The visuals and effects were fire. The mood was on point. Enjoyed it very much and took notes. Story I thought it was meant to be not super clear, maybe I'm wrong.
Well, what a majestic piece of MUSIC, .interesting concept ....climaxial
Awesome!! 😁
Not sure what I just watched, but now I've got a headache.
That is some laser job
I love these short films on Dust - and usually watch them all but I always read the comments first. Am afraid to say am not even going to bother with this one.
It is much easier to let others think for you,
unless youre a fan of laser light shows.... nothing here.
It’s like they wrote only two pages of dialogue. And got writer’s block. And we’re like oh shit I got only a couple minutes of footage for a 15 minute short film. Better pad it out with lasers and turn it in. And whalah artsy project complete.
And, what is the "vessel", Decima's body or some mysterious device "rune"? Was her mind transferred to "rune" or the rune into her body? If former, why is she still alive in the end? Will there be other people populating the "rune" or she will be the only one? Are there people still alive besides her and the assistant?
Very nice pitch and start , with some lengths, like the movie "2001"
...but without a real end ....
I thought I inadvertently clicked into a perfume commercial ...
Ha Ha ... good one
Great premise!
More of the last three quarters should have gone toward character and story development. Wish the makers good luck with the next one, just needs more focus and self control for outsiders to keep up with your thoughts.
I'm glad I only decided to suffer through half of that mess. Came to comments to see if it got better, nope... It honestly feels like the "director" just wanted to see the actresses "assets" and the rest came from a half remembered trip.
so...she incarnate without dying. hail the rune!
Hmmmm.
If they had just added a quick scene to reveal the meaning of the transendance.
Ps. Nice lights show
I think this is what it was about
Human existence has to be by male and female without him Human species can not exist
The lights and sounds distract you from the the dialogs (use subtitle). The message is still embedded , there is something there; but i am still confused
hail the rune
I was expecting Pink Floyd to show up. Maybe blue man or Tangerine Green
Near the beginning of the movie, they are mentioning dates and number of years... are these "Earth" years?... and then just why would Earth time/years be relevant in the Andromeda star system?... oh yeah , it's just a movie, right.
Thank you comments for saving me the trouble 🙏🏾
I am not a robotic shaman. I am org. Rain. Anchor. Evergreen.
Captain Kirk: "Spock, Bones........I have fallen into the Klingon hole of death and ....I don't know what to do!!!
Very Trippy!
That could have been a lot better, so sorry to say. If we're in the far future there should be no need for a vocoder as even today we have Alexa or Siri sounding humanlike. The overuse of lasers left me feeling underwhelmed
Had no idea what was going on. Thought I was being harsh. Guess I wasn't the only one. Thanks for sharing... Try again?
✨💥✨
This happens when you have a few visual effects but no story to tell.
I think I need to eat some mushrooms for a rewatch . .
Were the lasers all CGI or some of it was real?
It looks like an 80' sci fi movie. Actors also resemble David Bowie and Iman.
Good job
I was disappointed with the middle and ending. As everyone else commented, the short beginning was intriguing, but the storyline became very muddled with all of the lasers. I did enjoy the build up, unfortunately it led to nothing. Maybe this will lead into a continuation such as: Decima 2.
probably should have watched this high
hail the rune?
seems her soul was uploaded to the computer
Why coming to the comment section first sometimes saves lives. 😫🍻
Rebel against the machine❤
You guys have created a visually unique & stunning world, and just a small part of a much bigger story. For the sake of a 15 minute film the laser sequence could have been shortened, but it still makes me want to see the whole story.👍👍
