Interesting that you mentioned Area 51. The theme on this tour focused on a lot of extraterrestrial imagery .One of the interludes on this album ,Faaip De Ooid,is a recording of a caller into paranormal radio host Art Bell’s show back in the 90’s trying to warn the listeners of an alien takeover. The broadcast gets cutoff by an unknown source while the caller is freaking out . He had claimed he used to work for Area 51 and the government was spying on his activities. Tool had originally wanted to use the interlude using Enochian chanting, but their sound engineer freaked out claiming aliens were stalking him. They changed it to this recording.
i always got chills and was freaked out by that "filler track" Faaip de ooid, so much so I deleted it from my computer. Now i know why it gave me the creeps. thanks!
When you are born Saturn is at a certain place in space, it takes Saturn approx 28 years to return to that exact position. It's a time of reflection ( see what I did there, also a great song ) Saturn ascending and then returning is a chance for you let go of the past and move on and evolve. I think. The choose one or ten has to do with kaballah and the tree of life. The first sphere of the tree being keter or " crown " and the tenth is yesod which is seen as a vehicle that allows movement. Perhaps moving beyond the grudge you were holding. Makes sense in the context of the song
'Saturn' was also likely intended to reference the Tree of Life. Each sephira on the tree has an associated planet, and the one that is associated with Saturn is the 3rd sephira, Binah. It is generally thought to represent understanding or contemplation. I'm sure that the "comes back around" part is a reference to Saturn's astrological orbit, but I think the reason he mentions Saturn to begin with is probably due to its significance in the Kabbalah Tree of Life.
Double meaning. Saturn is also the representative of the middle finger in palmistry. So, Saturn ascending is basically giving the finger to someone. You can choose the one (giving the finger) or the ten to embrace (or open all ten fingers to let it go). But, your take is correct for the second and third time he sings about Saturn.
Culling Voices has become one of my favorites from them recently. You should really listen to the songs Disposition, Reflection, and Triad on the Lateralus album, back to back without stopping. It's a journey.
i was going to say the same, then i had a thought, all the other great tracks , so hard to say that with tool, defo top 7, no, 8 a feck, 10 :-) i like it allot lol
The Grudge is my number one. Hits me every time in the chest. My eyes start watering as it forces me to think of ways to make amends to some of my estranged family members, words to say, to sooth the pain, heal the wounds. Time is not on our side. Better get busy “letting go” or “get busy dying” with the unresolved...all of it. Dust in the wind, and it’s too late by then.
Area 51, see, you've just segwayed yourself into your next Tool song. "Lost keys/Rosetta Stone". Both must be played together. You should probably pull up the lyrics for this one.
Lateralus is probably their best album overall. MJK's voice was never better (that 20-second scream!) and every single track is a winner. Cannot wait for you to do Parabol / Parabola....

Hey J/J Loving your reactions and just the pure joy and excitement you show while discovering new music. I think you’re as much a Tool fan as anybody, your ‘interpretations’ are as valid as any. Holding onto a grudge is a waste, holding on too long will change you. Dealing with a grudge in the right way is to let go, to drop that weight you’ve been carrying. Inflexible entrenchment vs foundational growth. The Saturn thing I think is from astrology, from a concept they call the Saturn return. Basically the same thing about holding onto grudges, letting negativity control you can change you

Pushit is a must, but it's still better to hear the album version first. The Salival version is still better in the context of the original version, which I'm sure most people heard first anyways.

And he screams for 28 secs at end
'Saturn' was also likely intended to reference the Tree of Life. Each sephira on the tree has an associated planet, and the one that is associated with Saturn is the 3rd sephira, Binah. It is generally thought to represent understanding or contemplation. I'm sure that the "comes back around" part is a reference to Saturn's astrological orbit, but I think the reason he mentions Saturn to begin with is probably due to its significance in the Kabbalah Tree of Life.
Yes
Double meaning. Saturn is also the representative of the middle finger in palmistry. So, Saturn ascending is basically giving the finger to someone. You can choose the one (giving the finger) or the ten to embrace (or open all ten fingers to let it go). But, your take is correct for the second and third time he sings about Saturn.
Culling Voices has become one of my favorites from them recently. You should really listen to the songs Disposition, Reflection, and Triad on the Lateralus album, back to back without stopping. It's a journey.
Took me a minute for CV to grab me, but when it finally did.....you know the rest.
Reflection is one my personal favorites
@@grindstatus24 reflection is perfect
Culling Voices is my clear favorite from Inoculum. Everyone seems to be raving about Pneuma, but to me it's one of the weaker songs of the album..
Reflection is such a gorgeous song. So beautiful. One of my faves for sure.
You are killing it today with the song choices.
Appreciate you, brother!
Dude the Grudge is a top 5 Tool song for me!
i was going to say the same, then i had a thought, all the other great tracks , so hard to say that with tool, defo top 7, no, 8 a feck, 10 :-) i like it allot lol
All their songs are top 5
1. The Grudge
2. Third Eye
3. 10,000 Days/Wings for Marie
4. Pushit (live version)
5. Pneuma
6. Rosetta Stoned
This is a smart man. Graduate from West Point. Sings in several bands, owns and runs wineries , martial arts gyms, Yoga studios. etc etc.
Area 51, see, you've just segwayed yourself into your next Tool song. "Lost keys/Rosetta Stone". Both must be played together. You should probably pull up the lyrics for this one.
But good luck trying to follow along with the lyrics as the song plays :)

Tools not music...it's an experience.
Amen !
Tool & Pink Floyd
Lateralus is probably their best album overall. MJK's voice was never better (that 20-second scream!) and every single track is a winner. Cannot wait for you to do Parabol / Parabola....
Jason Levine Probably? Lateralus IS there best album. You can make the argument it is THE best album since Abbey Road.
@@toddgersh Tastes vary and I never try to make a declarative statement if only because I don't want to fight the person who prefers 10,000 Days or Fear Innoculum. Suffice to say we're all in the Tool Army because we love Tool and how we measure that love is less relevant than the acknowledgement that it exists.
Jason Levine wanna argue about that? Just jokes. Me funny. Lateralus number 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed. Lateralus is a audible walk through magic.
28 seconds to be precise.
A Perfect Circle - Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums
Pet?
@@skinlessskeleton It's a line taken from Pet expanded into a whole song on Emotive. (I prefer Pet)
Lmfao the level of discomfort that just grows on your face as Maynard lets out that epic scream at the end is priceless
I was lucky enough to see them play this whole album like 2 days after it came out, I celebrate their entire catalogue, but this album is still my favorite. Definitely gotta react to the many gems on this album.
It's our generations Dark Side imo
I love watching your Tool reactions (all the others too), but I especially love seeing you experience theirs for the first time. It helps me relive those first moments as a kid when I heard them for the first time. It’s really special to witness people being exposed to and enjoying your favorite music. So, thank you. Also, more Grateful Dead, please. 💗
Tool taps in to a primordial aspect. Tribal, raw and primal yet transcendent and introspective.
I love seeing people react to tool, I can never again have it, so I guess I'll just be Vicarious.
Ha!
Seeing this live is fucking amazing.
Agree 100%

i am so glad .... so many folks have introduced you to such a bunch of amazing music.. man there's so much. Like 2000 and back. nothing notable since.... imho. Much love Jemal!💛
This was the first song on this album, their first full album in 5 years. This is how we were introduced to what was in store.
Oh man The Grudge! I hope you digg this one. Commenting at the beginning
So glad to see you enjoy it so much. I think you were pretty spot on with interpreting the lyrics, at least with how I look at them. Sometimes I go deeper but I am not very good explaining what's in my head sometimes
Hope I haven't missed you react to Danny Carey's drum cam performance of Pneuma, I know you would enjoy his skills tremendously!
@@L3monSqueezy your name indicates you've missed a thing or two from time to time. i think it was a veiled request for the reaction, or a cry for assistance from us brethren, to point him to the reaction if it exists.
One of my favorite Tool songs as it is so well rounded in every facet. From lyrics to the transitions the melodies, everything. So fucking good.
You bring me joy, Jamel! The reactions and music are the icing and cherry on top.
Yes you did hear him scream for 20 seconds straight. And he nails that live every time.
JANE"S ADDICTION - THREE DAYS!
Absolutely!

Fuck sakes. Jane's fans 😂
One of my all time favorites, but it’s long and you better be ready for a ride.
Mountain song
Hey J/J
Loving your reactions and just the pure joy and excitement you show while discovering new music.
Basically the same thing about holding onto grudges, letting negativity control you can change you
Man, I just gotta let you know... your reactions bring me so much joy. I really enjoy and appreciate seeing you discover all of this different music. This song in particular, I remember the first time I heard it, I reacted very much the same way. Thanks and stay safe!
10:21 in Maynard releases The Grudge for all of us with that primal scream. I'm not a big fan of screaming in music but it's brilliantly timed/executed/necessary for this piece (notice I didn't say song as TOOL doesn't make songs.)
Yes finally! My favorite Tool song🤘🏻
Best Part is at 4:30 that Part just sounds like so much rage and anger but its still constrained at that point.
I love watching these. So far your reactions to Tool ( my favorite band) have been most enjoyable. Thank you for these videos.
Have seen them open with this twice.. Thoughtful reaction. Glad you enjoyed.
That moment at 5:42 always finds everybody’s stank face
I've heard this song a thousand times and that transition gets me Every. Single. Time!!
I second that or third that
100% yes
Have you listened to Pushit, Salival version or 3rd Eye? If you haven’t, then you are not complete. Lyrics need to be looked at as well. Love your reactions man!
Jason Magistro I’ll co-sign this.
Especially the salival live versions
Pushit is a must, but it's still better to hear the album version first. The Salival version is still better in the context of the original version, which I'm sure most people heard first anyways.
Yes dude, Pushit Salival version. Essential listening.
Preach Jason. He has done the Salival version of Push It.
Thank a lot for reacting to this song! It's one of my favorite from Tool. Great channel. Stay safe. Peace from southern France!!
😂🙈 The stunned look on your face at the end , was priceless!!
U also need to do Opiate by Tool personally one of my favorite Tool songs
Yes please. When that song came out it was way Way ahead of its time. Seriously listen to this one.
I love this one, react to descending if you havent yet.
Best song on the new album. Probably an unpopular opinion.
@@bdizzle2144 I agree, its my fav.
your reaction for the scream at the end and the outro is priceless! great song and a beast to play accurately as a drummer. once you get done with these tool songs, you should see how they all relate and fit w/ each other in the album. the members of tool are geniuses.
at 5:44 "OH!" I feel that every time I hear this song. That backbeat kicks in and the song just runs away.
One of MJK’s most iconic screams, right there. May I suggest Ticks and Leeches for your next Lateralus track?
Jamel, Saturn comes back around is when it's in the same positions as when you were born. The scream at the end is the letting out of the things inside causing you to hold a grudge.
Man, you got me watching all your videos today! Thanks
I really enjoy watching you dissect the meaning. You got it friend. Thanks for this.
Keep going.
Silverchair "tomorrow" - Official video .... 15 year old Australian kids making grunge music their debut song from early 90's. Thanks Jamal

The Grudge is my favourite Tool song, been waiting for you to react to this one for awhile and it was worth the wait, great reactions and great video
You know you pretty much nailed it .I first seen tool for the first time in 1992 they were the most underrated rock band of the time and no one paid attention to them. It’s only been recently that they’ve gained a lot of attention it literally took 28 years for people to pay attention to them and now they’re seeing them for the geniuses they are.
Excellent. You starting with The Grudge.
Now you need to hear Parabol/Parabola
It's time to understand that you're eternal.

Love your channel. You're absolutely right about how Tool can diminish other music. I struggle to find anything else that can entertain my mind the way Tool can.
This is one of my personal favorite TOOL songs. So much of their stuff is like a spiritual and or out of body experience.
Oh dude! You gotta do The Patient off the same album!
Since you have been doing tool, check out "right in two" from the 10,000 days album.
First reaction video for T00L where i could actually see you putting the pieces together and for the first time ever actually wanted you to pause (relax army) and break it down in your own words. top notch as usual Jamal keep it coming.
I enjoy all your Tool reactions. Keep it up man. There is still so many songs. Than you can step into a perfect circle! Along with Puscifer. I look forward to seeing more mang
That little jump you had when the song first started had me cracking up
Edit: watched it again , could of been a hiccup
Bro, please react to "Hatesong" live in Chicago by Porcupine Tree. I also recommend the french band Gojira, you should begin with "Explosia" or "Silvera"
Jamal...I think this is my favorite reaction of this track...you win. Mashed that subscribe button. You had the same reaction when the Beat changed...at 5:42 on this video and you yelled...that I did hearing it the first time 20 years ago. It made me smile...kudos!
Tool Army Here, check out TOOL (YOU LIED) this is a cover of a song done by a group called PEACH which was the band Justin was in before coming to TOOL, and it also showcases another kind of voice from Maynard it sounds sort of angelic, and the music is of course off the chain.
How about some “Average White Band”; with Schoolboy Crush?.....And some Chicago; with that badass horn section??
Average White Band's BEST song (imo) "If I Ever Lose This Heaven".
Shelley Fowler .....Yes, Lawd! That’s another great one by them! The AWB never let me down. Those guys got me through junior high and high school!

I’ve been waiting on you to react to this one. This song has helped me through some tough times when I had hate in my heart. You got the meaning on the nose... don’t get too wrapped up in the Saturn part. The main part- just let go of the grudges... just LET GO. Thanks for all of your genuine reactions.

DAMN I'VE NEVER BEEN FIRST! 420 LUCK!
And you're still not 😁😉🤘
Saturn takes 30 yrs to round the sun, the scream at the end is 30 seconds.
I love how this number keeps growing, last I heard it was 27 years. And the scream is closer to 23-24 seconds, I'm not sure that was an intentional connection. Maynard was just getting rid of the grudge. ^_^
@@Spaztiq just google it, 29.5 yrs and tbh never counted the seconds of the scream haha
The “LET GO” build up to the outro ! Soo siiickk!! Gets me every time!🤘🏼
Really enjoy your videos bud. Especially the Tool reactions.
20 years of listening to metal and I've still never met a scream as long or impressive as the one in the grudge. How many lungs does he have ?
As much as I think Maynard is a singular talent vocally, that scream is a studio effect. They looped it.
@@maynarddrivesfast804 No i don't believe they did. I saw them in concert in 2004 for the Lateralus tour in Sacramento CA and he did the scream live for that long, unless they looped that live as well.... could be, but i don't believe it was
@@maynarddrivesfast804 Maynard isn't a fan of using studio "tricks" like that with his voice, he always says if it's not something he can do live it doesn't go on the album. You can also find several videos of him pulling this scream off in concert. He doesn't do it anymore unfortunately but he's older and needs to protect his voice.
Definitely not a loop. Maynard hits that scream live without issue.
CATHARSIS.
Watching you work to grip this gem is a joy.
We've all been there, my friend.
Jamal , this is your boy representing from The big The bad Citayyyy of L.A., I think we almost the same age Jamal , so you know as much as I know there was only one objective to worry about when we were growing up and that was to survive. Glad we made it. Hey Jamal, you are hearing one of the most innovative dynamic different sounding bands of out time, every single one of these guys are incredible musicians in their own rights, the drummer is freaking insane, the singer is one of the most intelligent creative song writers I've heard. All his lyrics have some deep meaning, not to mention his incredible voice. Guitarist and Bassist are so bad ass too. Yeah Tool has been in it's own category for awhile, that ses alot. Jamal you have a great sense of what makes music good, I noticed you appreciate the dynamics , the transitions, the creativity , and the music overall. You dont have any biases that would prevent you from taking it all in and then judging for yourself. I am impressed with your skills . Great Video Jamal , PEACE
Lateralus is where Tool turned the corner from metal to Prog metal, as far as I'm concerned. You can see on Aenima where it was starting to head that way, but it was really Lateralus that cemented their reputation for being pioneers and pushing the musical thresholds that they do. So glad you have been enjoying them and helping spread the love around the Internet.
