I also remember you mention several times that you would use gluestick for adhering napkins and tissue apers (instead of a decoupage medium). I find this tip of yours really helpful because i enjoy the texture of a napkin adhered this way and it's less messy than fussing with a brush and a liquid glue

I wish I had this video when I first started my junk journal journey! I made so many wrong decisions about the type of glue to use out of ignorance! As I look back through my old journals, I can see first hand what happens over time! New journalers- take notes, this is so important! Thank you Barbara!😊

It always surprises me to see so many using glue sticks as they are known to not last over time (I've had great luck with Scotch brand adhesives in general, so maybe their glue sticks are superior to most out there). I came from a scrapbooking background so I'm a bit more cognizant of things that will last over time and are acid-free and such.

Thank you SO much Barbara, a great video. I often make mistakes by using the wrong glue. I have to work on my projects with a low budget, and wish some glues weren't so expensive!! I have previously used Beacon's Fabri-Tac, which was great. When it ran out, I used the bottle to squeeze the cheap UHU glue, that I buy in the UK (where I live), from Pound land. They've reduced the UHU tubes however, for the same price, but I do find it is still cheaper than most glues, and works really well. I haven't been able to work since 2015, due to health issues (I'm 63), so make crafts to a very tight budget. But I love all the glues you've mentioned, and buy them every few months when I've been able to save up for them. I work hours at home, making journals, but only manage to sell them on eBay, for about £10 each journal. I've tried Etsy, but can't afford their monthly fee now. I wish I could sell for more because my annual disability income, is a mere £7,000 a year. I'd love to have my own business, but it's impossible. I rent a tiny council flat, and have to use my small lounge to do my arts and crafts, so it's always a mess!!! But I never want to stop creating. I love your tutorials, you are incredibly talented. Thank you for sharing your talent with us 😊😊❤ xx

Thank you for this video. I’m happy to see I’m not the only one with many different glues! I have Art Glitter glue but it’s too finicky for me so now I use Bearly Art glue. I’ve recently purchased bookbinders glue to use when glueing fabric to chipboard for covers. I haven’t tried it yet so I’m not sure how that will work. As for glue sticks, I mostly use them to “tack” something that I will sew. Other than that they sit in my glue basket.

  • @tharp2499

I really can't add any other glues, because you've included my faves.😉 I will say that I'm a hot mess most of the time, my hands don't like to work well & I drop things or get shaky. I struggle to get things on straight the first shot.🙄
'Art Glitter Glue' is great! I love it...but, there is little to no wiggle room. You'd better be happy with where it lands, 'cause that's where it's staying, if you don't want a real mess. It also dries very fast, which is awesome when you lack patience. Definitely get the fine tip. You'll be glad you did, & a little goes a long way.💗 I love '3 in 1' too! It does have some wiggle room, grabs quickly however & takes a little while to fully cure. But, it dries enough to keep moving along. And, it doesn't take much either. Excellent sticking power.💪 Collall is very expensive in the US. So, I haven't tried it, but would like to. And then there's 'Liquitex Matte Gel Medium'💗🤩💗...It's a little jar of magic.💖 If you love matte, a smooth finish, combined with virtually no brush strokes... this is what you want! It's well worth the price.👍 I use the liquid version as well, as a sealer. It's great too, very matte. But, the gel is amazing! I have loads of glues & mediums. But, these are my top 3. I've not had a great experience with glue sticks either. UHU is great for it's "sticking power". But, mine is always a mushy, gloopy mess. It gets hot & humid here in Central California...maybe that's why. I like Scotch as too. Less messy & sticks well. I just don't use sticks much, though. And, I'm a disaster with double-sided tape. NO wiggle room...AT ALL. lol!! Though it definitely is useful, & necessary, when coping with a "diva".😁 I use the 1/8" for vellum, glassine...the sheer stuff. You can hardly see it at all.😏
Thanks, Barbara! Great tips.💗 Love and blessings, Tracy.💙💙💙

Great info, thanks. Part of the reason I started crinkling my paper was so the glue wouldn’t show through. It’s become a signature style for me. When I started paper crafting, it was basically PVA or Tacky glue. I have used gel mediums, but sometimes that adds bulk and weight. When I started using Fabritac, that was game changer for adhering laces, trims and such. My next investment will be Art Glitter/Barely Art. This video is being saved for future reference, again, thanks for info.

Great, comprehensive video on glue/adhesives. I personally love things made by Scotch (3M). I found the Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive (rebranded to Scotch Tacky Glue or Create, I believe) when scrapbooking over a decade ago and love it still. I use it to glue paper, wood, plastic, small metals, etc...it's a fantastic all-around glue. I stopped crafting for years and the half-filled bottle of glue still worked perfectly. I also have their ATG (Advanced Tape Glider) which uses the double-sided tape that works really well (the tape glider can be a bit finicky to figure out, but it works well once you get the hang of it). I know people go crazy over the Art Glitter Glue, but I'm curious how it compares to the Scotch glue I've used as the Scotch glue might be less expensive to use. I heard the Scotch glue stick is also fantastic...but I'm with you on glue sticks as I bought a ton of the Elmer's glue sticks and they all dried out when I stopped crafting for a while.

What a helpful video! Thank you! I buy 3-in-1 glue eight bottles at a time! I’ve been using it for 20 years, and it’s the only liquid glue I use in mini albums. I’m new to JJs and invested in lots of mod podge but when it’s gone I’m not replacing it. I bought the Liquitex and it’s everything you said it was. Question for the community: did any one have an issue with Bearly Art glue going bad and smelling like rotten eggs? What a waste of money. I had bottles and refills and extra pins and tips. Ugh. The odor clung to all my cards and I had to trash those too. I’d love to hear if anyone else had that problem. Fantastic video!! ❤❤

It was one of the few glues you can use to hold fabric pieces together while sewing or keeping edges from lifting while you are doing intricate machine embroidery which does not effect the needle and bobbin mechanism like all other glues do! It holds perfectly and is not sticky…

Hi Barbara! Thank you for the video i loved it and i have a suggestion for you for the shiny glues. You may use an old translucent makeup powder or a white one and tap it on it where the parts you would see through the shine. You should do it before it dries. I hope i was able to describe how to do it 🙈 I usually do it when i use double sided tape and shiny glues if i use a lace or so. I also use an old make up brush with the powder it makes it easier 🥰

A great overview. The only 'accident' I have had that almost ruined a cover was to use the 3 in 1 glue on a thin ribbon, it bled through the ribbon leaving a wet hard looking spot. I then had to cover the ribbon with a piece of lace to hide the oops! (which made it look better...a happy accident! The same happens with thin fabric, it will soak through leaving a hard dark spot. Otherwise I like the glue. Hugs from MN.

I have found the same issue with the Cococina glue stick - our springs and summers are warm and humid and it just gets goopy and sticky. It does stick things down reasonably well so I just keep one around for traveling. I've tried the Uhu glue stuck as well, it's less messy but I'm not sure it sticks as well. I do prefer a gel medium for most things, and I have both a regular/thin body and a heavy body that's good for thicker papers. Another one I love is Yes Paste, it's a thick paste in a jar that you can spread with pallet knife (or your fingers), and it holds everything I've thrown at it (not sure if it's available for shipping to Europe).
I have the glitter glue on my list to try, cause the ability to do a nice thin line with the metal tip is important!

Tip for you, when you want to use sticky tape or a stick glue and it needs to be more permanent, add a thin line of AG glue to the edges and you are home free! Thanks for the great ideas, gotta get me some 3in1 now to add to my arsenal.

I like to use fabritac glue when gluing vellum! Because it’s not water based, I find that it won’t warp the vellum at all. Thank you for the helpful video!!

Thank you, Barbara! This was so very helpful! I have lots of different glues, plus the tapes, but I am slowly finding my favorites. I don't have the matte gel medium, so that's one that I want to add to my collection. Thanks again!

I use liquatex Matt Gell after I started watching you. It’s the best. I also use some tacky glue which I found here in the UK as well as glue sticks and double sided tape. I think you kind of need to work out what works best for the job your doing. But I definitely recommend spending the money on the Matt Gel

👍🏻 Video very helpful. My main one is Art glitter glue or just bought my Bearly art glue few months back. It’s like Art glitter glue. I like it. Use a few others you showed. I don’t like glue sticks. Thanks for sharing.

While I strongly believe that we all have to try different adhesives and learn what works best for ourselves (personal preference and climate has such a big impact), I really appreciate that you share your experience with us, it can help us avoid some of the most annoying mishaps!
And with that said I still want to leave a recommendation for a real good glue if you are in a country with access to Panduro (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium I think); their quick drying glue is my favourite adhesive for almost all types of paper and also works on fabric. I put it in a small bottle with a metal tip and while I’ve never tried ArtGlitter glue it sounds like it has very similar qualities. (Just make sure it’s the quick drying version, the other one is not that great). Their glue stick is also one of the best I’ve tried (there are certain things where I still prefer glue sticks over a liquid adhesive).

    Liebe Grüße Nicole

I had years of frustration and trial and error🙈. My favourites are collal decanted into precision tip bottles and empty 3in 1 bottles for different jobs (as my main glue) the 3 in 1, matt medium, cosmic shimmer acrylic (quick grab), zig glue pens for tiny of filigree die cuts, hit glue (but only since I got the right gun) pritt stick for master boards and for making pastes pva or clear glue. WOW, just realised how many we all use 😄. Art glitter glue seems high maintenance😄 very temperamental. That tip is cool though. Yes matt gel is magical! I find 3 in 1 thicker than collal and similar to silicone gel glue. Maybe different amounts of the same ingredients. Warping is my nemesis, so many people like Anita's tacky which I can't get away with. Oh yes, double sided tape lol vellum IS a diva 🙊. I have super skinny tape too. We really do find our happy glue and although it's very personal you're right, cheap doesn't save money in the long term. Excellent and comprehensive video😁. Tfs and have a great day 💖💖💖

I once read somewhere that some people cannot get yeast to rise due to genetics or hormones and I think I am that way with glue sometimes 😆 Stuff that should work a certain way just doesn't work at all for me (some glues just won't dry ever and just stay super tacky) and other glues that most people hate work just fine for me 🤣 My fave is just plain old Pritt Bastelkleber (NOT the Alleskleber; that one did not work for me). This is a great video and I just ordered the Collal glue to give it a try. Thank you!!!

Another CZcamsr I watch uses the coccoina glue stick or whatever it’s called. She says it’s a paste glue, so it’s not your climate making it that way. She said she also buys it in a tub and uses a spatula for it. It’s the same texture in the tub and the stick, just a different presentation. She uses it to cover pocket size bibles with fabric and layering the fabric pieces on the cover.
