पहले पंजाब भारत का हिस्सा नहीं था, भारत अंग्रेजों का गुलाम था और पंजाब में खालसा राज़ था,जो अफगानिस्तान के काबुल से चीन के तिब्बत तक था 1980 में जब वाजपेई ने चीन से भारत के कब्जे वाले हिस्से की वात की थी तो चीन ने कहा था कि इससे वारे में हम खालसा पंथ से वात करेंगे। वहीं पाकिस्तान, हरियाणा, दिल्ली, कश्मीर सभी इस देश का हिस्सा थे। अंग्रेज, रूस, अमेरिका, हंगरी जेसे देशों के लोग वहां खालसा आर्मी में नौकरी करते थे। 1839 में जब महाराजा रणजीत सिंह की मौत हुई तो उनके वेटे को महाराजा घोषित किया गया, तो उसकी राज़ सता के लिए हत्या कर दी गई जिसमें उनके रिश्तेदार डोंगरो का हाथ था, डोगरो की ही गद्दारी की वजह से कश्मीर पंजाब से अलग हुआ। उसके बाद महाराजा रणजीत सिंह के पोते के कत्ल के पिछे भी उन्हीं का हाथ था। फिर महाराजा के आख़री वेटे दलीत सिंह को राजा घोषित किया गया तब उनकी आयु मात्र 5 वर्ष थी। जिसा अंग्रेजों ने खूब फायदा उठाया, उसे इंग्लैंड लें गया वहां उसे शाही राजघराने में पालन-पोषण किया और ईसाई धर्म परिवर्तन कर दिया। अंग्रेजों ने अपने जासूस पंजाब भेजकर सैनापती को अपने साथ मिला लिया 1844-46 में अंग्रेजों और सिखों के बीच 2 युद्ध हुए, जिनका जिक्र उस समय के कवि शाह मुहम्मद ने अपने "जंगनामा सिंहा ते फिरंगिया दा'' में किया है। इतीहासकारों के अनुसार उस समय लाहौर की फौज इतनी ताकतवर थीं कि अंग्रेज सिथी लड़ाई के वारे में सोच भी नहीं सकते थे। इसलिए गद्दारों की मदद से पंजाब फौज को २ भागों में बांट दिया, पहले 60,000 जवानों को सतलुज नदी को पार करवाया गया दुसरी और लाखों की संख्या अंग्रेज-भारतीय सैना थी, इस लड़ाई में 1100 के करीब जवान शहीद हुए, वहीं दूसरी ओर अंग्रेजों को बहुत नुक्सान हुआ जिसमें कई अंग्रेज अफसर मारें गय। पंजाब को जितने के लिए बड़ी मात्रा में मुम्बई से आर्मी और हथियार मंगवाय गय। इस वार भी अंग्रेजों के हाथ कुछ न लगा सिवाय नुक्सान के। फिर लड़ाई रोक दी गई। सिखों को लगा कि वह चलें गय, अंग्रेजों ने विना किसी चेतावनी के हमला कर दिया लाहौर फौज को हथियार संभालने का समय न मिला, वह गोला बारूद ऐसे ही छोड़ कर दौड़ गए अंग्रेजों ने विना किसी नुक्सान से सभ हथियार अपने कब्जे में कर लिय।, सिख, जो सोच रहे थे कि इससे वाद दिल्ली फतह करेंगे, जीत कर भी हार गए। बाकी भारतीय राजाओं ने भी इस लड़ाई में अंग्रेजों का साथ दिया। अगर ऐसा न होता तो पंजाब कभी गुलाम न बनता जो 99 साल गुलाम रहा (1849 से 1947) और भारत भी उसी समय आज़ाद हो जाता जो 200 साल गुलाम रहा।
