DEEP RED District REVOLTS Against Trump and MAGA

  • In the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump carried Ohio’s 6th Congressional District by 30 points. But in a recent special election there, Democratic house candidate Michael Kripchak lost to his Republican opponent by single digits, setting off alarms for Republicans across the country. Mike discusses with Ken how he did it, and why it matters that Democrats run in tough districts.

      The DNC is a ghostship, they are not going to support those races. The conspiracy nuts take things too far, but the democrats aren't really interested in winning based on on everything I've seen. Justice Democrats are, the Squad. Maybe this guy should get in touch with Justice Democrats. But the DNC are not interested in winning. Republicans are paid by the lobbyists to win, Democrats are paid by the lobbyists to act like they're going to push back against Republicans but then fold and give in when it's time to vote. And if you don't believe me, look at the voting record vs. rhetoric over the decades. The Democrats had Republicans over a barrel and instead of protecting The Dreamers, the Democrats give-in and let the Republicans have what they want, and The Dreamers get screwed. Obamacare was actually a Republican healthcare plan to make more money for the Health Insurance companies, and Nancy likes to brag about how she's a skilled politician and negotiator for getting that through; Yeah, great job Nancy, you managed to pass a Republican healthcare plan in a bipartisan way! The Democrats always talk the talk and never walk the walk, the Republicans are in lock step, the Democrats are there to make everyone feel good and then take the fall when it's time to actually put up.

      Kansas, and I neither see nor hear the same support at the top. The only signs I see are all down-ballot races by a 10:1 margin over the prior two presidential election years. I wouldn't put a campaign sign on my property, but lots of people do, and most of the people are just sick of the drama and the die-hards are the only ones with the equivalent of the front yard bathtub grotto Madonna statue except to a frigging politician (for those not Roman Catholic, I'm referring to a copy of the historical statue depicting the mother of Jesus, not a strange fan tribute to the Material Girl 😂).

    I live in Iowa....I feel your pain. We were one of the most progressive states in the nation. We were the first state to allow women to vote. We were 3rd in the nation to allow same-sex couples to marry. We voted for Obama twice. Then Trump came along and I do not know what happened. I thought I knew my state and my neighbors but, I did not. There was so much hatred and grievance - DT taped into that and 52% voted for Trump and again in 2020. I hope we are moving away from that. There does not seem to be as much enthusiasm for DT this time around. Keep up the good fight. This party needs good people like you.

      The US is a constitutional republic that elects representatives through democratic elections, so yes, we are a democracy, as well as a constitutional republic. We are both, so wake up anonymous commenter.

    Every time I hear a Democrat speak, they sound so down to earth. That's such a valuable trait to possess. Mike is exactly that grounded and compassionate. He's policy driven. He wants to solve problems. My folks are from Kansas, so I know the issues farmers deal with. MAGAGA candidates come from deep dark corners of the universe. They don't sound anything like Mike. They can't express anything other than the same MAGAGA BS. Really nice interview. It's a shame Mike lost. He's exactly the type of leader we need.

    The UK referendum to Remain or Leave the EU (in 2016) was 'won' by Leave (based on approx 32% of the eligible voters, 52% of those who voted). The 1st district to declare was a former steel-making district, surrounded by coal mining districts. These people felt abandoned and ignored and used the referendum as a protest. This was repeated in the fishing & farming industries, both of which have suffered since leaving the EU.
    Unfortunately, it was too serious to be used for this purpose and so the UK has left the UK in an unreversible act of self-destruction.
    The leave campaign was underpinned by dark money and the powerful press barons such as Murdoch whose opposition to the EU was based on self-interest (in his case that the UK, uniquely in Europe, allowed him, a foreigner, to have a controlling interest in 3 national press titles and nearly a national television channel. He resented the European countries deniying him the chance to control the narrative).
    Wake up USA, get out and vote but realise that in your case the November election can be used as a protest against the threat to democracy that, if lost, like the British membership of the EU, will be almost impossible to reverse for generations. This is not a simple Red/Blue issue, just as Brexit was not.

    That is an amazing results in just a few months for only $20,000! It really does show that there is hope for our nation, if the electoral college does not wreak havoc. And for State elections I think there will be some red districts turn blue and I think that Democrats will win the house back and retain the Senate gaining some seats there. If, if we don't get complacent and continue to try and get as many new people registered to vote as possible.
    I really enjoyed the interview!

    • @gagatube
      @gagatube Před 4 dny

      The Electoral College does not "wreak havoc", only the people who try to manipulate it do. One of the benefits of the EC is, being a State-wide election, it is immune from gerrymandering. Provided the MAGA types don't use fake Electors or pass legislation saying they can ignore the electoral vote, it's actually a pretty good system for choosing the leader of a Union of disparate States. (Not saying it can't be improved...)
