Shankarapura near Katapady is well known for its jasmine flowers which have high demand. Cultivation in Shankarapura jasmine started around 100 years ago.These flowers have a long shelf life and can stay fresh for about three to four days and are used in great demand because they are used for pujas, certain rituals and weddings. Our team at Raga Productions shot this documentary few weeks back, digging deep into the process, sales and future of Udupi Mallige.

These are a must have flowers in Manglorean (Catholic ) weddings for the bride and family,it’s more of a tradition .It’s sad to see that cultivating them now is a difficult task with labour shortages .Support local, keep the tradition Alive !
