It is beyond annoying.
One pauses at getting upset of their mothers passing, so the other steps in to help finish. Then they get upset and the other helps. That’s what siblings do. Her daughters were loved, their mom was loved.
If you notice, at the beginning of the clip they were ready to cry. I get the feeling that their mother passed away and they brought this heirloom to see the price of the wonderful gift she left them.
When they said that the lamp recently "emerged" I'm sure they meant the mother passed away and the lamp was part of her estate.

This clip is 22 years old, but just as touching today. I see that the 2021 value is over 300K.
I suspect it would go for much more than that at a Sotheby's Auction - being that rare and in such amazing condition, there would likely be a bidding war. The base is stunning - I love Art Neuveau - always reminds me of Paris, particularly the old Subway staircases.
Such sweet Sisters - Mom's passing must have been quite recent - there's a whole lot of emotion there. I get it.
Between this and the Navajo blanket are my all time favorite episodes. 👏👏👏👏👏

When the gentleman with the Navajo Chief blanket was told how much it was worth, I was scared he was gonna have a heart attack! Then he started crying, and I started crying... it’s my ALL TIME favorite!! But this one is great, too!
I like the little old lady who bought the end table because it fit in her house and it ended being worth something like 1/2 million dollars.
Just by their body language and emotions, I can tell they had a wonderful upbringing. Seriously a precious moment. Like Dom Toretto says "Family is everythimg!"
I bet they live their life a quarter mile at a time, because winning, is winning.

I don't think the appraiser understood when one of them said "it just recently emerged". Very touching way of telling her mom had passed away recently.
She understood, she deals with pieces from deceased relatives every day. It's just that they breeze past it because the show isn't meant to be a constant reminder of death or mourning session.
Toward the end of the video, she says, "Mom had a good eye." She used the past tense for a reason.

This Tiffany lamp and base is absolutely gorgeous.. It's certainly a rare base that's very desirable.. I'm happy for the young ladies to find that amazing lamp in the mother's belongings..
As for me, I could take it or leave it.
The way the heaviness is offset by the teardrop shapes that make up the base supports, lifting the whole thing higher... gorgeous.

Absolutely. It's always great too see people who really react like they need the money compared to a person who is financially secure. I hope these sisters got top dollar and the money made a great impact on their lives. So good too see this. I'm sure their Mother is smiling in delight looking down on them. Well done girls. Great lamp there.

I've watched AR for easy 30 years here in the UK, and only just happened across this moment on CZcams, and this is the sweetest reveal I've ever seen. Wonderful piece, wonderful couple, wonderful expert.
My husband started laughing because I burst into tears when they burst into tears. (He was just listening with interest from across the room and wanted to get to the price, I was completely invested). The story! Their mom hiding it away, her recent death and how much she must heave meant to them. I loved this.

I'm sure their mother had recently passed. It's likely the worst day in your life when you lose your Mom. I lost mine in 2020, and it's still very painful.

OMGoodness...when she said,”between $80,000 to $100,000”,I automatically started crying.That lamp is absolutely gorgeous.They had a very smart momma.
Cry harder - she said between $80,000 and $125,000.
I remember watching this when it was first broadcast on my PBS station here in Columbus, Ohio all these years ago! These two sisters were so cute in how they realized what there Mom had discovered! This has been one of my All Time Favorite Roadshow Moments! There are quite a few over the decades...but this one was The first of many to follow! Cheers Everyone!
I still live in Columbus Ohio and just watched it again after 20 years. Hopefully they didn’t sell because now it’s worth about $300,000.
Another favorite moment is the Ute Chief Navajo blanket!
This lady was perfect for this segment. It was like watching a scripted movie only better; natural as rain and knowledgeable as a professor. I was hoping the lamp was valuable - and the sisters' reaction was heartfelt. Have no idea how that lamp survived in that beautiful condition.

This is why I watch Antiques Roadshow...their reaction was wonderful & so natural with what seemed to me to be bittersweet happiness.....I teared up at this one..bless those girls & their mom.

I'm a sensitive, and the funny thing people don't realize is that their mom was standing there with them. She was so delighted.
That is the sweetest show of family love. I glad it happened to them. Way to go mom! On the purchase, and the sweet kids.

I live in the heart of the ghetto. I was once summoned to an old lady apartment. She had a fridge like the one you see on the Honeymooners. Also, she had enough Chippendale furniture to stop you in your tracks. She told me she remembers when my block was illuminated by gas lamp and horses and buggies trotted through the muddy streets.

The best! The smile on Ms Sulka's face, at about 10 seconds in. She knew this was going to be an all-star moment. Such joy for her and the sisters, (and us) Some of the best things we have these days are these surprise appraisals. This is one of the best. I watch this when I need to feel good.
Lovely ladies, I’m betting they have some lovely memories of their mother.
One of my favorite moments from the many seasons of the show. From the beautiful item itself, the story of a mother who knew treasure when she laid eyes on it, to the legacy received by the daughters. Wonderful.
One of the very best moments of AR. I've watched it numerous times and still get goosebumps.

The charm and innocence of two lovely sisters, triggered by the astronomical appraisal, to cry together as if on cue made me appreciate the authenticity of pure emotion shared between these adorable sisters. I congratulate their mother for her knowledge, being at the right place at the right time, and acquiring this rare antique to eventually be given to her children. Smart mother and equally smart daughters.

My grandfather had his mother's lamp, it was a Tiffany. It had crystals hanging from the lampshade, beautiful design on the shade and the base was heavy and also had a beautiful design. Well my cousin was raised by my grandparents and helped them in their later years with the home and doing chores around the homestead. My grandfather gave the lamp to my cousin in the late 80s when she married and bothe a church that they made a beautiful home out of. Years later my grandmother and I was watching road show and the exact same lamp was on. A few crystals missing but in decent shape. It was appraised at like 10,000 dollars. My gram said the one we gave Vickie was in perfect shape. The appraiser said if it was fully intact it would be worth more like 37,000 dollars. My gram about cried, and made some kind of remark. Lol she was a shrude woman, my cousin still has the lamp in her home and knows the value of it which today is more like 50,000 dollars.
That was real sweet of the appraiser to hug them. Really nice video thank you!

I remember watching this the night it aired, after listening to the backstory I was shocked to find out it was a real Tiffany, and the estimated value. Needless to say I was very happy for these ladies.

I must have taken my empathy pill before watching this, their tender and humble tears brought me to tears, too.
Whenever it's a story about mothers,it hit home for me.
I like how they give you the current value at the end - it adds another surprise to the story.

I feel like there is a sadness in their crying, like their mom just passed. They said the lamp was recently rediscovered. Maybe when they were sorting through their mom’s items? I don’t know; just didn’t seem like completely happy tears.

@@juventuszebras Or perhaps they have a critical need for such a large amount of money, like 'now little Johnny can have his surgery' or "now we can payoff the mortgage on Mother's house." Or as you suggest, a fight between the heirs about how to use the money, "Johnny?" or "the old home place?"
It's probably ba mixture of emotions someone would feel when hearing that. I'm sure this lamp was something their mother prized and it is somewhat upsetting that she died without knowing the real significance of what she owned. But it also is nice knowing that your mother had such a good eye.
But also hearing that number probably also makes them realize they cannot keep it and it will need to be sold and leave the family. The money is a great thing but it also hurts parting with something that has that much sentimental value.
My thought was they were touched by their mother’s find being confirmed as a Tiffany after two dealers had told the previous owner the base was wrong, and upon hearing the value of the piece - a bit of redemption for their mother. This was in 1999 and the value today - having more than doubled is just awesome. I have a feeling the lamp has remained in the family.
By far one of my favorite antique roadshow moments. Almost made me cry! Good job mom!
