- Nicole was hustling as a mommy burning both ends of the candle between cleaning houses, selling garbage finds online, selling real estate, design, and house restoration. She stayed true to her self and purpose eventually launching a number one TV show, books and so much more. Nicole Curtis a NY Times best selling author and the high-energy, charismatic star and Exec. Producer of Rehab Addict, the hit HGTV show that has run for 8 seasons. The self-taught home renovator, designer and tireless champion of saving and restoring old houses is famous for her extraordinary home transformations and unbridled passion for rebuilding neighborhoods. The Michigan native is hands-on with all her projects and is currently in development on another show for HGTV, all while running her foundation and raising two sons. She rebuilds city blocks, Making Detroit as it was. Her work is that of a artist. She needs to be praised. For that simple fact.

So inspiring! I admire her especially because she tries to preserve the history of the homes she's renovating and she tries to save neighborhoods in a town that she loves. My absolute favorite home improvement star.
Nicole is not only doing the right thing for historic homes, she is a great role model for women. Love all the advice and her honesty in pondering kitchen designs. And if something is not right, she will change it. I remember her re-sanding a floor after staining in order to restain. She never hid her mistakes.
Just love Nicole...I found a quote from Nicole after losing my job awhile back and it's really helped me: "9 words that changed my life: You're just not a good fit for our company" Slammed doors aren't the end...simply the beginning of new journey's. .I have a copy of it in my wallet and my bulletin board...
Nicole is such a real person. I love her and her shows.
After being the only woman hired in for a maintenance department and learning so much on how to fix, replace and remodel in the early 90's; seeing her do what she does makes me so proud!
Watching that show when I was not doing well in my marriage and had just had my first baby, meant so so much to me. She was powerful and strong and got things done. And it made me feel powerful and strong and like I could get things done. Life is much better for me now. I have a 7 and 4 year old and marriage is better than ever before. But I would like to go back to these shows and rewatch them, and just see if it has the same inspiring and encouraging effect on me now as it did then.
Bringing back the Joy in your life is finding your true home!

I think Nicole is just an amazing lady. I don't have cable so I cannot watch her shows there but I have been watching them on CZcams. I am grateful that she is in this world.
She rocks and such an inspiration. Wish I had the strength and courage she does.

Nicole, it was fun watching you rehab Campbell St. My parents lived on Campbell St in the 40s when I was born. They talked often about the neighborhood and the duplex that they had lived in. The house you rehabbed looked so much like what they had talked about. Thanks for doing that show and bringing that house back to life.
As a guy she is a knock out too. A natural beauty and loves life.
Ms. Curtis is the reason I took a trip to the Detroit for the first time two years ago. She is also the reason we are going to Minneapolis, I feel in love with area after seeing her rehab the Minnie Ha Ha House. I want to see it in person after it is safe to travel again.

Love this woman. She is seriously my idol. I know she's had MANY struggles, both professionally and personally, but who hasn't? I respect her so much. This is what I want to do.
Always loved the show and being a built heritage consultant, this is right up my alley. Miss is being on.

My husband flips houses in Detroit... Well, he's the labor man and his friend is the one that buys all of them & in charge. It's truly an amazing thing to see to see the life of an old, beautiful house come back.

@Thor2021 Ishere Didn't know anything about that situation. Everyone has positive and negative baggage in their past, but she did persevere and overcome poverty.

This is why I love Nicole!!!!
I think out of all the DIY shows she is the most genuine. She is not afraid to admit mistakes and pokes fun of herself. The other personalities from DIY shows demonstrate polished decisions, elitism, egocentric delight of creating narrow band of design fads (shiplap, sconces, firewood stored in the livingroom) and usual belly aching about being over budget and behind schedule. Nicole does not care about vogue outcomes but rather the functional aesthetic respecting historical contexts. She cares about public issues and will make a stand that most other DIY personalities declare as frivolous and move onto the next fixer. Unfortunately Nicole is laser focused on too many things at once and it probably it was time to take a break from the hectic pace.
Most of the shows are fake from beginning to end. They have a cast of colorful actors but they hire out the work.
@@StanSwan True. I think the worst are that Flip or Flop Attitude (Atlanta) Ken & Anita Corsini..... Fixer Upper Waco has more than a few schlactastic moments and dribble. The property brothers seem respectable, but I do not watch too much of them.

Definitely not the rehab/addict video i was expecting, but as an individual living in Ferndale, Michigan currently + a strong supporter of Detroit, I was interested from the start. I have been in a job crisis myself, almost identical - just think hair. I don't know where im going or what the future holds, but I hope i get to be in a very similar place as Nicole was in this video today. Thanks, TEDx and Nicole.

Nicole's show is the real deal...no secret crews coming in and banging out the job, just Nicoles and her hand picked pros working to make old houses new again. She buys wrecks, fixes them up in the style and era of their origin and then sells beautifully restored homes. She is REAL and she ROCKS!! In my cable area she started on the DIY network then HGTV picked her up. Sadly, I am cable free at the moment so I can't watch her shows and don't even know if she is on air.

She always seemed real on her shows unlike the many who try to come off as real. Shes Detroit real and I always admired her love and support of her city. Very talented-well spoken. Very easy on the eyes.

I loved rehab addic
One of my fondest memories was going to see and take photos of the Benihaha House with my late husband! He was one of the only people that believed in my crazy! A little tidbit is that the lady that plays the scientist on NCIS had a best friend who was killed in a house fire set by drug dealers. Nicole is a very good person! I love the project of her doing her family's home. Even though I'm not rich, I'm fifty and a half years old and to end my lifetime cycles of codependency, I am starting to take care of myself!
