Mr. King's book is a good read. This film ... not so much. I watched it for the period costumes and to see how they would dramatize the building process. The awestruck narrators are over the top, as is the photograph of people. Some of the music is period-specific, but the final scene, dominated by Handel's Messiah, for God's sake, is about 300 years too late, and vey jarring. Sorry.

The only special effects used in the documentary were to cover Brunelleschi massive balls.
