The Truth About Dragon Ball Sparking Zero's Roster

- Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero is estimated to have around 164 characters. But when looking at the roster many may notice that there are multiple copies of the same character. So is Sparking! Zero lying about the number of playable characters in the game? Yes…but it is also telling the truth at the same time, and this is due to the way many fighting games and the Sparking series specifically define what counts as a character.

The actual character screen will be collapsible, like in Tenkaichi 2 and 3.
You pick a character, then a number of slots pop up for that character's different forms.

1. Ss goku 2. Kid goku 3. Goku black 4. Blue goku 5. Base goku 6. Ui goku
@@Flipitmixityou can add vegito and 2 gogeta that both has half of goku and vegeta so 7.5 goku total.
Then we have Gohan, who is half Goku and half Chi-Chi, making him also 0.5 Gokus, so since we have two of him, this brings our current total to 8.5 Gokus.
We've also got Gotenks. Gotenks is 0.25 Gokus, because he is both a child and a fusion. Now our total is 8.75.
Also fused zamasu who is also half goku black so its 9.25 in total

One small thing that's nice is that sometimes different era characters have different quotes. So Vegeta (Second Form/End) has different quotes for someone like Dodoria than Vegeta(Android Saga) has for the same character. It's a small touch, but nice!

I've never understood why people use the rule of a form being a different character for Tenkaichi, but they drop that rule for Raging Blast saying "There aren't really 73 characters in RB 2 because they count transformations"

Maybe it'll take too long as a programmer but my solution to this would be to put different costumes (colors like in BT3 and others) for 1 Goku to represent multiple eras. And then add a customizable moveset system, with fixed profiles like "Early/DB Moveset" "Mid/Cell Saga Moveset" and so on. Same for all the characters with a lot of eras and/or styles of fighting
You have to remember that Budokai Tenkaichi is an Arcade game first, and a fighting game second. The difference between character versions isn't just their moveset - but their power level. Goku Super has much higher stats than Goku Early. It matters for damage dealt and taken, for beam clashes, super armor, and even such things as how much power is needed to destroy the stage with a planet destruction skill

Great video! Tenkaichi 3 really is like the perfect dragon ball game. I wish there were more games like that. I think now a days, maybe characters are too complicated to make all advanced with the new technology and it could maybe cost a lot more or maybe it’s just hard to make so many well made characters compared to back then when technology wasn’t where it is now.

Tenkaichi 3 had 161….. theyre definately making OG, Movies and GT as DLC, which kinda upsets me
Even though I’m super hyped for this game I smell a ton of dlc and maybe even a battle pass.
That double image bug is an emulation bug that can be fixed with texture offset.

I think they should keep costumes, forms, abilities, and movesets seperate. This way you can select Goku with his blue gi with "Early" basic moveset but can activate SS4. SS4 Goku would now do use the "Early" basic moveset with whatever SS4 stat boosts tend to be and SS4's specials/Ultimate. Or you can choose Kid Goku with his Orange outfit, using the power pole, but able to turn SS1, like GT Goku.
Obviously for some transformations, everything will change like SSG2 Trunks or Ugly Zarbon
I think this would allow way more player exptession/freedom and not artificially inflate the character count.
Looking forward to it with every new trailer they release just hope everyone plays differently compared to the PS2 days Wonder how much single player content were getting
Different animations and attacks makes it a different character, because it takes time to develop, so they will count it as different character.
They should make Super Goku a COMPLETELY different character and call him, BRAIN DAMAGED GOKU with the crossed eyes or Team Four Star Goku!!🤣

Even with many of those characters likely to be transformations or versions of Goku, 164 characters is still impressive. I do wonder to what degree they'll slim down the roster though; will there still be three different adult Goku's (even though there wasn't really a difference between Goku Mid and Goku Late outside of transformations).
1:41 - In the case of Budokai Tenkaichi, where you couldn't transform mid-match, I can understand counting the characters as separate slots. With Tenkaichi 2 onwards where these transformations mid-match, it seems wrong to count these transformations as separate characters. It's more like an expanded moveset.
3:12 - Understandable in some cases, less so in others. A Goku without access to Spirit Bomb or Kaoiken makes sense as a separate version of base Goku, but after he learns those moves, he doesn't really learn any new attacks. Well... there is Instantaneous Translocation but...
3:47 - A way I'd work around that would be tying the "Gathering Energy" support move into a means to access Super Spirit Bomb.
5:18 - Which is part of the reason I hope they choose some of the more out there characters. I'm sure someone like Magetta would play nothing like other characters in the roster.

Well it's close to the English Z dub of the Supreme Kai's version which Kid Buu could also do eventually, called, "Instantaneous Movement." (Kai kai, in the original dub)

Personally I don't mind the extra versions of the same character, as long as we get enough villians included in the game so the story mode feels more natural. More villains means it'll cover more stories and with 4 different series (and a 5th if we include daima) and a whole lot of movies spanning dragonball to dbgt (and even an alternative timeline for dragonball surprisingly) there's a lot I doubt all will be on release.
My biggest issue is when they add them as dlc, is that they will likely be unlocked to play once you buy it and lets say you want to play the game from beginning to end. You might end up with say the cooler dlc unlocked at the start with dragonball; which I'd rather it be unlocked when you get to say the cell saga or frieza saga to it's respective release. If they DO do that, I have no worries about it.
I just don't like it when DLC's mean you can play the game out of order simply because it wasn't added in base. I'm the kind of person who wants to earn the chance to unlock it rather than just pay for instant access.

This is one of the things Raging Blast gets right, keeping 1 character, like 1 Goku for example but having the option to change his moveset. Like having him do the attack combo he does against Piccolo in WT but also doing the 20x Kaioken like he did against Frieza. The different saga characters are redundant lol

I remember complaining that Tenkaichi 3 was full of reskins as different characters, but boy did I enjoy playing it!
There's over 10 and counting, but if you only count the eras there's only 4 (Early Z, Mid Z, Late Z, and Super)
They can also add Kid Goku, 23rd Tenka-Ichi Budōkai Goku, GT Goku, SS4 Goku, and UI Goku
this game may as well be the "Tenkaichi 1" of it's own series.
This is Tenkaichi 4, pretty much.
Tenkaichi 1 = Sparking!
Tenkaichi 2 = Sparking! NEO
Tenkaichi 3 = Sparking! METEOR
Tenkaichi 4 = Sparking! ZERO
Oh, and what about TTT? It's like Tenkaichi 2 Portable or something.
And what about Raging Blast rear cover stating "Next Level Tenkaichi" you may say? Jeez, that just gets confusing.
Lastly, let's pretend Ultimate Tenkaichi doesn't exist. That plays nothing like Tenkaichi nor Raging Blast (it was titled Ultimate Blast in Japan). It's a god damn QTE game with rock, paper, scissors mechanic.

I wish they would already give us at least a crumb of details about what the story mode is going to be like and other features besides giving us character roster reveals. The character roster reveals aren't getting me excited for the game. Unlike some or most fans' i would prefer a new open world (at least a semi-open world) Dragonball game instead of there being another 3D arena fighter. I'm not much into fighting games nowadays. I hope the story mode of that upcoming game has some open world elements at least.

Personally, I don’t like splitting characters into eras. I much rather have as few splits as possible and allow us to customize the moves and ultimates.
But while this is a big pet peeve of mine, that’s all it is, a pet peeve. I still love these games, and while I’m disappointed that they’re doubling down on era splitting for Sparking Zero, the game still looks great.
Considering how many fights Goku and Vegeta have throughout the series this is kind of the only way it can be done so they aren't insantly bloated in techniques compared to someone like Android 18 who only has like 2 fights throughout the entire series.

Sparking 0 is doing what the previous games did but even still the Roster is a bit disappointing for the time being as the Roster is similar to bt3 in size when it needs to be bigger to about 180 so I hope this is just baseline

I think Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 did a good job with the characters
Yeah, I was disappointed it didn't have a story mode in RB2, but enjoyed the "challenge" mode anyway.
Graphics looked so plasticky that it looked somewhat real as if it were figures fighting.

Idrc. I personally don't think these games are very fun to actually play, they're flashy and stupid, and it's fun to unlock stuff and watch the cool animations.
If these games were actual fighting games, I'd completely get finding these- what are effectively palete swaps annoying, but they're not and I'm okay playing Goku number 47 with a different spirit bomb finisher.
