    I love that your enthusiasm and passion are evident in this showcase video. Hearing your genuine emotion makes me smile. Thank you, Paul.

    I know people are complaining about the price of this but quite frankly, I think it's worth every penny. The quality of this piece is astounding. I love the metal body, beautiful stand and the belt holster. I have one that has the working buttons but it also cost $750 and that was around 10 years ago. This is a collector's piece hence the price.

    The original screen-used props had no sound of any kind, actually, all sound was added in post-production. This makes them cooler to see in person, honestly.. you expect it to be noisy with that kind of light show, but it's all dead silent.

    First let me say right off the bat although I like and enjoy Star Trek I've always been far more into Star Wars. If I could only watch one property Star Wars would win every time. So as I'm sure you can imagine this item doesn't mean a lot to me. However Paul while watching your review I fell in love with your passion. It was absolutely apparent how much this means to you and it was endearing on an emotional level. Watching your excitement got me excited about a product I probably wouldn't of looked at a second time.Thank you for sharing this with us. It is your passion and honesty that has always drawn me to your reviews and made you one of my favorite reviewers.

    thanks for sharing this. As a Star Trek fan i always hoped more props from the shows would become available to a wider public then rich collectors. This is a great prop replica. High priced but the lights and sounds when you open it are exciting enough to make up for lack working buttons. This definitly is on my wishlist. Again thank you for sharing this

    Even non Trekkies who see my Gene Roddenberry Prop Replica of my Tr-50 Mark IX Tricorder are fascinated by its operating lights. When I have guests over for supper I turn down the lights and bring out my Tricorder and everyone stares with fascination.

    Commenting as I'm watching, I'm super into Star Trek so 11 minutes in I'm sitting here ''Come on, Paul, open the Goddamn thing'' lmao.

      +Hoss Bummed none of the buttons function. But this is pretty damn nice, even for the price of the unit.

    • @optibotimus
      @optibotimus  Před 8 lety

      +Hoss There are some custom pieces out there that have functional buttons. It raises the price considerably into the 2k price range. That's a BIT extreme IMO

    nice review, man! I wish I could be this kind of collector. Always love the Star Trek props, even though I kind of dig the "t.o.s." tricorder a little more, any trek props are always cool to see.

    I think most of us understand what you are talking about. I collect Transformers because they remind me of a time when I was a kid and just sat around playing. I know that it isn't because I am investing in something that will make me money later. The money doesn't matter. I collect them because I love that feeling of finding something that makes me feel like a kid again. And maybe someday I will be able to share the hobby with my kids and just say "look, this is what I played with when I was your age".
    PS add as much Star Trek stuff as you like. That was really cool.

    Bought this in September 2016 almost $1000 with shipping & CDN exchange. On arrival the screen stenciling was lifting from the face. Emailed them right away they told me to glue it down and referred me to their community message board. You cant see the lights or hear the sound unless you have batteries in it and open it so I installed some batteries and not wanting to put it on display with batteries in that could leak, I used it till the batteries died. Today I dropped a new set of batteries in it to show it to a friend and the lights in the bottom "Flip out" part weren't working any more. A tiny wire in the hinge had been made too short and ripped completely in half UNDER the hing mechanism. Roddenberry's response to this $1000 purchase.. "Yeah you have a loose wire but you no longer have any warranty!"
    I know NOT using it defeats the purpose of having lights and sound but DON'T use it. They have very poor paint adhesion, The edge sensor area has surface decals that rub off real easy, the plastic color displays won't stay down and its very easy to break!

    about the shipping part it is the seller job to stay on top of things with the shipper to see when they are going to ship it out buyer should not have to deal with the shipper.

      +Andrew Lewis As i talked about, prop replicas are always fairly expensive. Especially when you're talking officially licensed ones. There isn't any "ripping off" though going on since that's the price it's sold for lol it's not like i bought it off someone :P

    Wow $500 for that? A device that basically just lights up and has some beeping sounds. IMO it really isn't worth that price tag despite the full metal build.
