It’s worth mentioning that Tom Barber has said in interviews that he was a fan of Chelsea Grin and would listen to their music at the bus stop so for him to now be the lead singer is fucking amazing
That’s very cool ! He’s an awesome dude🤘🏻🔥
That's dooope! I like that stuff he's been doing with Darko, too 🤘
Tom barber was probably the best guy to take over, however imo i wish so bad alex stayed
@@j3arnoldsame but I loved his lows and ever since Ashes to Ashes he started doing them less. Not like his lows weren't great
Check out Ameonna @@j3arnold
dude!! no one talks about this era in depth on yt and its a shame. keep this up pls, ur gonna get a lot more subs with this content :]
Hey thank you 😊🤘🏻I'll keep at it for sure , so many bands with interesting stories!
The cozy representative has some good dives !
@@Cat_theft_auto Yes he does !! He’s my biggest inspiration honestly… he’s more on the emo pop / Metalcore side , but he’s extremely talented
@@xtheyanAnyone whos a fan of cozy is a fan of mine!
alex, pablo, and jake actually have a new band out now called Ameonna! super sick to see some of the more OG members get back together!
It's honestly crazy to think the Chelsea Grin EP was comprised of nothing but repeatable songs. There are no bad or boring songs on that EP, not only that but they're all classics; they are all bangers
I couldn’t agree more 🤘🏻🔥
Dude early Deathcore has some of the best fucking songs ever, Chelsea Grin and Thy Art Is Murder EP's fuck so goddamn hard
Blows my mind that they were teenagers back then!
Chelsea Grin EP and the Thy Art Is Murder EP were incredible
Both my favorite EP of all time
Oh for sure dude. Infinite death is an eternal classic.
I would love a part two just because there is no in depth videos of how things are going and I know there are a lot of band changes and I want to know why
Okay cool !! I might do a part 2 then 🤘🏻🔥
chelsea grin was one of my favorites when i was a kid, miss those days. i'm glad youtube recommend this video, i enjoyed it! w
Thank you !! 🤘🏻🔥 same ! The EP was iconic and I miss the "Alex" era of the band
I absolutely loved this video. The MySpace deathcore was my favorite time period of metal, the songs were sooo raw and just full of pure brutality. It's great that you are making videos about it but, it's a shame that not many people really talk about the Golden years of deathcore.
Thanks man ! Yes I mean , it’s important for me to tell all those stories in the best way possible and honor the bands 🤘🏻🔥
Alex did all the cleans on the Evolve EP. I heard someone asking him right before I spoke to him in 2013
That's so cool !
My YT algorithm has been giving me some great newer CZcamsrs! I love your content dude! CG is still the deathcore OG for me. 🔥🔥🔥
Hey thank you so much ! I’m very glad CZcams is starting to recommend my videos , I’m working very hard on it 🤘🏻🔥
I think it's worth mentioning that Alex was featured on Worm Shepherd song "Accursed".
Didnt even know that !! thanks for the info
I totaly agree with you about the self tilted EP, it's a perfect blend of "good" and "raw" quality.
Tom is doing a crazy job in Chelsea, in Darko US as well 🔥
I love these "Myspace Era" videos of yours, so much memories...
Your channel is a great find 👏🏻
Hey thanks man 🤘🏻🔥
I was in a McDonalds after young life one time in high school the first time I saw that album art. It scared me to the core. Then I heard recreant and that 20 bpm breakdown completely shook me 😹 I was deep in to metal, so heard of it basically at release…and just couldn’t believe how scared these boys made me. And it was fascinating. Great video dog, I’m subbing for sure you’re doing us all a huge service who were there.
Thanks for sharing you story ! And thank you for the support 🤘🏻
Don’t Ask Don’t Tell has to be one of my favorite songs. Shit was beautiful.
Man always taking me back to the good old days, all the bands youve talked about always resonate with me. Love your content youre doing amazing! 😊❤
Saw CG so many times back in the day. They were on tons of tours! And they killed it every show great memories.
I love this era of music bc nowadays I refer to newer bands who do a similar sound (ex. Callous Daoboys) “MySpace Metal” and I mean that with 1000% respect
This might be my new favorite channel on here, I think. The scene needs this.
Hey thank you so much, I appreciate !
Tom is an incredible vocalist but there's something that can't be beat about this era of the band
Great video man. Chelsea Grin was my introduction to deathcore and is one of my favorite bands. I’d love to see a part 2!
Thank you !! 🤘🏻🔥
I remember seeing these guys open for as blood runs black or maybe it was veil of maya. Anyways, they were giving their ep out for free. They were pretty good live but the PA system was having issues that night. Anyways×2 , im at home the next day, took my moms worship cd out and put this in. this was the heaviest shit I had heard up to that point. They were soooo good. Blew my mind.
Thanks for sharing your story! And yes , what a great EP 🤘🏻🔥
great video, my dude. Chelsea Grin is one of my favourites from that era as well. that EP will always be a lesson on deathcore.
dude love the videos this was fucking awesome to go down memory lane. and yes i definitely want to see part 2!!!!! kudos bro this nailed it
I would do anything to go back in time to that chelsea grin, attila, and emmure, sylar tour that was so great saw them in chicago
i remember the first time i heard Chelsea Grin in 2010. the vocals were such a dealbreaker; it very effectively separated themselves from the oversaturated myspace deathcore crowd because *nobody* around was screaming as high as Koehler was. at the time hearing him was like deathcore screams pushed to a caricature of the vocal style. i remember back when i heard him i immediately threw out all my all that remains/as blood runs black voice training screams i was accustomed to and instantly tried to reach a screech as high as him. 💀
hate to advertise but have you ever heard Vinnytsia Fatalities? that's an old-school-style deathcore band i was in. listen to the EP: Death Beats Through My Heart if you can/want to, it's good stuff and you can probably instantly detect some of the influence of his vox that still lingers in my voice. 🎙️ 🤟🏻 also cool video !!!!
Hey thanks for the suggestions and kind words !! 🤘🏻
My favorite era of CG. Had to of seen them 10 times back then and got to kick it with them at a few venues. Truly badass down to earth guys
100%
Knew Tom Barber would be a good fit for Chelsea Grin since the Maleficium EP
which imo was Lorna Shores best work
Loving these videos man! Keep em coming! 🤟🏻
Hey thanks man I will ! 🤘🏻
Finally a myspace Deathcore dedicated channel, keep the good work dude!
Hey thanks man 🤘🏻🔥
As 42 years and living through the golden years of Deathcore, I’m loving these videos! I’ve watched 3 or 4 videos today and love em! Hope you do a White Chapel vid as they are a staple of the scene. My favorite bands of the time are Despised Icon, Impending Doom, Carnifex and Oceano. Hope to see some more videos of from this Erra! Love the content and keep it! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks a lot !! And every single band you mentionned is on my list haha
Agreed I am 43 and just subscribed yesterday. Wrote two novel comments because the nostalgia of this gentlemans Utube channel gives me nothing but the best memories of a more simple and beautiful time in H.C. history. I love hearing new blood at shows talk about bands
Tripping balls while listening to the ep on youtube, the one where the ep cover slowly zooms in and out is amazing
You are my favorite new CZcams channel. Met Alex back when he was in Chelsea Grin and I told him about how much I loved the Chelsea Grin EP! Plus, my band definitely does our best to try to sprinkle in Myspace deathcore influence into our music. Cant wait for more videos!!!!
Thank you so much man ! I appreciate .. and what's your band ?
@xtheyan Doctor I'm Already Dead. I do vocals. We are deathcore with some hardcore influence, but you'd most enjoy our song Blindman Surgery! The end breakdown is definitely the heaviest shit we've got, but the unnanounced album coming out this year we have is gonna change that ;)
Sick glad someones doing this typa content
Thanks !! I’ve waited so long for someone to do it , until I realized I could actually do it myself ! 🤘🏻🔥
chelsea grin was one of my favorite bands in middle school, loved this vid
Thank you 🤘🏻🔥 such an awesome band
PART 2 PART 2!! New sub🤘🏻 good quality material, knowledgeable, and badass early day live clips.
Hey thanks a lot 🤘🏻🔥
Yeaaaaaaaah Dude great video, I grew up in slc and watched them come up... Seen them so many times and it never got old, they are still sick today...
hey thanks man!!
As someone who has been listening to Metal off and on for nearly a quarter of a century (!!!), but only got into deathcore last year great channel!
Thanks man !! 🤘🏻
Part 2 needed 👊🏻🤟🏻
dudeeeb i love your videos, the bring me the horizon one was very good and this video too ;) greetings from Chile
Hey thanks man 🤘🏻🔥
Yes part two let's go!
Best channel. You’re gonna blow up. Keep it up! Fellow québécois
Heyy thank you so much 🤘🏻🔥
This channel is all I wished for a long time ! 💯🙌🏻
Thank you so much !! I mean I always wanted to find a channel about Myspace Deathcore.. Until I realized I could actually do it haha
@@xtheyan And you're doing great of a job big thumb's up ! 👍🏻💯
@@benjaminbovay10 Thank you so much man !! Already working on other videos 🤘🏻
Their sound changed because Jason Richardson joined after being a tour member and started writing for evolve.
Alright awesome ! I didn't know that 🤘🏻🔥
Desolation of Eden is my all time favorite deathcore album. Also I'll admit, My Damnation was alright when it was released, but as the years go by it seems to be getting better with time like a good wine.
I went to school with Alex haha. Back when they were Ahaziah and eventually became Chelsea Grin, when they released their first album, everybody at school lost their minds!
Wow that’s awesome! I mean I’m still listening to their first EP and to think they were in high school is mind blowing! 🤘🏻🔥
@xtheyan yeah no kidding, time flies. It's even more unfortunate he was a huuuuuge douche to my wife and I though back then haha. We were kids, can't get too mad
@@ReverseCurses yes I mean at that age , no one realize how big of an impact they can have on others and very often, when you go through difficult stuff, you “let it out” on others without realizing it if that makes sense… As a former emo kid living in a small town, I understood very early how a lot of people need a “target” to release their “anger”
@xtheyan well said dude. Yeah I know all too well what prejudices are like for dudes like you and I haha, I've been getting made fun of for wearing skinny jeans since I was a kid, not even to mention how many times I got my ass kicked for it or the shirt I'm wearing. I'm glad it seems like things are starting to lighten up though, people seem to be adjusting to the idea of let people be who they wanna be.
@xtheyan my wife just showed me your one-man project too, good stuff dude I get really heavy All Shall Perish mixed with Trevor Strnad vibes with your vocals. The chugging in the beginning of your single gets me going too 🤘🤘
Props to all the one man gigs out there, this is a dude from Vienna that is also doing a solo thing and his guitar work is incredible czcams.com/video/CBjVm74jQBM/video.html
This is the very first video I am watching from you new subscriber love it well deserve video of the good and old days of deathcore/MySpace era. btw please keep up the material and part 2🫶
Heyy thanks man !! 🤘🏻🔥
U forget to mention his collaborations and also he was second vocalist for a Metalcore band named Hearts and hands.
Excelent video dude, love remember Myspace times
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
bro, you're spot fuckkin on with this EP. I remember the week this $hit dropped, absolutely blew my mind and was instantly a fan. Sooo thankful to have seen them on their 1st tour and experience their early years.
Thank you !! And you're so lucky haha
I was listening to this album and many sick songs from other bands
On the main street in high school! So good 💯
Super stoked for Alex’s new project
Hell yeah ! Same man 🤘🏻🔥
Last year I saw the plot in you in salt lake. And Alex kohler was there watching and we talked for a few minutes. He was so chill and nice. I was devastated nobody recognized but me, after paving the way for so many amazing bands.
Woo my home state!!
I have friends way back in the day were in a band playing shows with Chelsea Grin. The Ep - My Damnation era. How freakin cool, right?
Also I’m like 98% sure that Alex had to relearn how to scream because of his injury. Which then lead to his new vocal style.
Good episode! 🤘
Thanks a lot !! 🤘🏻
i remember looking up all the 2007-2009 videos in high school 😭 favorite deathcore band and era
thank you for showing a clip of AGATG playing their, in my opinion, best song ever
When 'ashes to ashes' was released I was 15 years old. To me it was probably the best heavy album I've ever heard. And to this day, this album still inspires me. It's so extreme on every aspect but still written like "pop" music that it will just goes into your ear.
Alex has always been one of my favorite vocalists in the deathcore scene, especially the early days of deathcore. Such a shame he isn't doing music anymore with chelsea grin but S.H.O.T will always be my favorite songs of theirs \m/
Hey bro, keep making content this stuff is dope
Thank you man !! Means a lot 🤘🏻🔥
I'd love to see a part two
it's coming ;)
I think a major takeaway from these videos, is consistency - the grind, always getting better and doing better. I love these videos, keep em coming
hey thanks a lot !! I appreciate you noticing
Next: I declare war, knights of the abyss, through the eyes of the dead
Is also worth mention Alex co created a band named Hands & Hearts in 2012 which was also like a Post-HardCore band, and their EP was fucking amazing From a song named Revenge and my favorite We're not alone, sadly the clean vocal singer who was a really close friends of alex passed away when he was 25 i think which also hit alex real hard, i remember it was one of the reasons he also vanished from social media for a while.
Top tier album for sure. I remember when it first came out, the vocals changed my life. Sooo much range and distortion mixed with raw aggressive riffs and monster breakdowns. Perfection 🤌
Couldn't agree more! 🤘🏻
4:05 that’s something missing with a lot of metal bands, that rawness adds so much
Where i am in the uk its just me who's into this stuff. We definitely need more stuff like this on yt. ❤
I'm glad you enjoyed ! I'll do my best to upload every week 🤘🏻🔥
Something I didn't see mentioned in the video or comments is that on the self-titled Chelsea Grin EP, all of the lows Alex did were inhales. It wasn't until Desolation Of Eden that Alex learned exhale lows.
Man I really think your channel is going to blow up! This is quality shit!
Hey thank you so much!! You have no idea how much it means to me 🤘🏻🔥
Im new subs for this. I love the videos🤘
Hey thank you so much ! 🤘🏻🔥
This was the band that got me in to deathcore…
Crazy none of the original members are even in the band . anyway this is a great idea for content keep this up
Yes it’s weird but I’m glad they’re still around ! And thanks man 🤘🏻🔥
A big reason of the transition into that more "metalcore sound" with Evolve and Ashes To Ashes was mainly because of Jason Richardson
Your starting to be almost my favorite channel now 😅
Hey that's so kind thanks a lot !! I'll do my best to create good content haha
@@xtheyan haha welcome man
Dude , this video make me love deathcore again like in my youth 😢
That’s the biggest compliment you could give me
dope content there old stuff still goes hard
Thanks !! Yes 100%
Great video! Can maybe also do a video about old lorna shore?
It’s in my plans 🤘🏻🔥
I remember hearing Chelsea Grin for the first time in like 2008 or 2009 when I was in high school, like it was right after the EP came out. My friend who I'd played in a band with came up to me in the hall and gave me an earphone and hit play on Recreant and Alex's high scream blew me away. I was new to metalcore and deathcore, at the time. I didn't like Desolation of Eden as much, I missed My Damnation for some reason, then I started playing guitar in a rock band in 2012 so I started focusing more on that style and didn't listen to much metal for a couple years, but I did like Evolve. Then I got into Babymetal in 2014 and fell down the JPop rabbit hole where I'm in the absolute depths today, but I did get around to catching up on stuff I missed. I only really like a couple songs from Ashes to Ashes, and I had to remaster Self Inflicted because the mix isn't very good, but I like it now that I've fixed it for myself. And I've loved everything since Eternal Nightmare, they know how to make deathcore groove in a way that other bands don't. The Myspace deathcore days were special, and I'm glad that the Chelsea Grin name lives on and they're still making some of the best deathcore around, even though it's a completely different band. Kinda crazy when you think about it. The band has no original members but they're still pumping out the same or better quality music than the original band.
Great perspective on things ! I'm glad my video is bringing so many memories for you
I remember seeing them at the green turtle in whittier CA then at this art gallery in Scottsdale AZ when they started touring. Good times.
I truely feel its the best representation of deathcore there is. Youre right it was actually perfect and nothing quite hit the same way these few songs did.
Brother was at the age to be in highschool with all of the local bands that came out of AZ, its pretty awesome to see some of the guys stick to the music and actually make it.
I got a drawer full of old show flyers if you want some pics.
That's so cool ! I wish I had kept my CDs and Flyers 🤘🏻🔥
CG is from Utah…
i still get the intro to crewbanger stuck in my head all the time, so badasssssss......
Amazing song
They pioneered the concept of layered vocals in the way he was using them (specifically using two different techniques to hit a similar pitch) and I think he really set the bar by doing that. His lows on those early EP's and Albums were some kind of exhale scream layered with an inhale, and it's why they sounded the way they did. Live he would mostly do exhales, but even that was still brutal as all satanic fuckerdom. I was able to meet Alex at a CG gig in Fort Lauderdale, FL, around the Ashes To Ashes days. I have a pic of me with him and a local band's vocalist; my pupils are dialated because I am fucking concussed from the pit. He was a super fucking cool dude.
Hey awesome story and infos man !! thanks for sharing
im almost postive tom was the lead in their 2016 warped tour. at least he was for the houston show. crazy shit live. i wasnt disappointed
Surprised you didn't mention Jason Richardson at all when you were talking about Evolve and Ashes To Ashes. And to expand upon your point of Alex wanting to do similar things to metalcore bands, he also started a side project called Hearts & Hands and also did play shows with them
i grew up during the ptv, sleeping eith sirens memphis may fire , all time low era and man it was so awesome dude my myspace / facebook was lit but i wish i culda experienced this as well man i only was able to whej we visited my cousin
I Still Listen To This Ep Every Fucking Day
Great video, CG is my favorite deathcore band.
Thank you !! Glad you enjoyed 🤘🏻🔥
@@xtheyan You're welcome, greetings from Brazil
Chelsea Grin did inhales when inhales were out of the picture. I remember them being hated. Not by me, but I remember.
Sick waking the cadaver shirt :)
Thank you!!
My favorite era of CG!
Your mispronunciations are making me scream laughing. I was watching the podcasts and decided to check these videos out. Incredible shit. I'm going from oldest to newest so I can't wait to see your pronunciations get better
hahah I mean I'm not even sure it got better over time
Old Chelsea grin was the bees knees! Saw them 3 times w Alex and once with Tom!
This was such an exciting time for me and all my lil scene kid friends lmao we all had the dyed black hair and lip piercings
It was like the self titled EP with Cheyne Stokes etc (best art ever I agree 💯) and we just wanted to hear the heaviest breakdowns and craziest vocals possible. And that EP fucking delivered, that and songs like "whore to a chainsaw" by thy art just blew our minds. Anything with those insane fast double bass drums, The Somatic Defilement comes to mind, you should do a Whitechapel video!
Edit: I saw them with Attila on that tour. CG was the roughest pit I've ever been in
Yes same here ! I think Chelsea Grin EP and Thy Art Ep are both masterpieces, pure brutality and passion , it’s amazing! And yes don’t worry, Whitechapel is on my list 😉🔥
Dig the waking the cadaver shirt!!
Thank you !! Such an amazing band 🤘🏻🔥
Man Chelsea Grin and Hermoine were out of control. Loved going to Chelsea Grin shows when I was a kid.
love 4 chelsea
Although I love My Damnation and Desolation of Eden, to me Ashes To Ashes was the best album CG released ! I still listen to it on the regular ! Such an amazing record !
Also, Alex isn't the only OG Chelsea Grin member in the new project ! Jake is playing guitar in it ! I can't wait to hear the first song ! They said it was almost finished !
WE'RE BLINDED BY A DEAD MAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNN!
Legit my favorite Chelsea Grin song. I loved Lilith and My Damnation and Sonnet of the Wretched... but Pledge Allegiance is the GOAT from their catalogue... though I admit Lilith is still a close second for me, but that's probably because I associate it with getting out of an extremely toxic relationship.
@@needsLITHIUM Dust To Dust, Letters, Clockwork, Pledge Allegiance... Fuck, this entire record is such a masterpiece!
@@inhertombbythesoundingsea agreed
2:35 if you close your eyes, all i can picture is Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad talking. They sound incredibly similar!
Lovely
thank you 😊
The good ol days
I got into the scene around that time 06-07 ish with Elysia
Thanks to my older brother
That's awesome !! And everybody want me to do a video on them haha
I got into deathcore some time in 2021 and it’s mostly what I listen to ever since, I absolutely love the Chelsea grin self titled EP, been listening to it time and time again, I decided to buy myself a vinyl of it to keep as a piece of history. Not gonna lie though I really feel like I missed out on so much growing up but oh well atleast I got into it now, better now than never
Also I really enjoy watching these videos, keep it up, are you planning on doing suicide silence or Whitechapel?
Thanks a lot ! Yes I'll do both but they will be HUGE videos , so a lot of preparation
