    Wow. You’re a planning beast.
    I work full time and I graduated almost 5 years ago and always said I’d try to get certified later but I never did it. Now I’m dusting off my brain so to speak and trying to get back into the flow of studying 🤣🤣🤣 I really like how organized you were through this process. Lord knows I need to be organized and develop strong discipline in order to achieve my goals💪🏼

    Hello, I’m studying for FAR at the top of the year.
    I have 2 questions.
    1. When you were studying, did you complete all modules in one sitting? For example, FAR 1 has 8 individual sections.
    2. My second question is, while studying everyday, did you try to master the topics or just get a general understanding of the concepts?
    Thank you very much!

    • @SharonOnuma
      @SharonOnuma  Před 6 lety +5

      Hi! Thanks for watching! Yes I completed the chapter including the modules. While reading through the text, I focused my attention on the areas the instructor from the video had asked that we highlight and quickly skimmed the other areas. In terms of mastery, I won't say I mastered it immediately as I read it. It took continuous readings of my notes and doing the homework problems to master it. On my first go, my goal was just to get a conceptual understanding of most of the material before I moved on. Hope this answers your questions.

    Also I wanted to ask you something, does it really affect your grade if you attempt AUD before FAR?? At this point I've attempted all 4 and lost credit for passing BEC and REG but lost my 18 month window, hence re-doing all 4 parts. Currently, my AUD Becker materials are going to expire soon so I wanted to do this exam first as I start my CPA journey again, so I can pass this AUD exam if I study hard yes?? Ive always heard people say to attempt FAR first but it'll end up being very costly for me to repurchase AUD so in this situation, I hope I'm making the right choice.

    • @SharonOnuma
      @SharonOnuma  Před 6 lety +1

      Hello Priyanka! That's right... it doesn't matter what section you take first. I took FAR first because to me it was the longest section and I wanted to get it out the way first. In your scenario, it makes complete sense to get AUD out the way first since your materials expire soon. Good luck studying!! I wish you all the best!

    Hi. I'm a senior graduating in May @ a university in MD. I have a full time offer @ a public accounting firm starting in July. I have a few questions:
    1. Should I start studying now?
    2. I'm taking advance, audit, & governmental accounting next semester. What section of the exam do you recommend I take first?
    3. How can I study as much if I'll be working full time?
    4. How did you stay motivated throughout knowing that you can't hangout with friends as much?
    Thank you

    • @SharonOnuma
      @SharonOnuma  Před 6 lety +6

      Hey Terp fam! I graduated from UMD too! Go Terps!
      Congratulations on your offer with the public accounting firm and it's great you are thinking about the CPA Exam now!With regards to your questions:
      1. Since you are starting in July and won't have the entire summer to study, I think it's a good idea to start studying now if you have the time and can balance it with your classes at UMD.
      2. For you, I recommend taking FAR first because it is the section with the most material and since you are starting in July, it will be great to knock it out the way before you start. I didn't take Governmental Accounting at UMD and I was fine just learning from Becker. You can start studying FAR concurrently as you take the class.
      3. Depending on the service line you are joining, the first few months might be slow and if you have any downtime you are generally encouraged to study. You might not study as much as I did each day but you should squeeze in study time any chance you get. Also, it's okay to take longer than 4 months. Just go at a pace that works for you since you will be working full time.
      4. To stay motivated, I constantly reminded myself of the bigger goal - being done with CPA for good. Also I weighed the two options I had. The first option was - study for the CPA without any interruption and give it all my time. The second option was - split my time studying for the CPA with hanging out with friends and/or traveling. I literally sat down and wrote down pros and cons of each option. Any time I looked outside and felt like the weather was nice and I could be out having fun, or I started to feel discouraged, I would refer back to my pros and cons list. Option one, gave me more pros so I stuck with it. Option two, gave me more cons that I personally didn't want to experience. Once I referred to my list, it was very easy to get snapped back to reality and focus on my goal of getting through the CPA. I encourage you to perform a similar exercise.

      I remember one or two chapters in FAR taking me longer to get through the homework but some other chapters took me a shorter time. I tried not to beat myself up if a chapter took me one day longer than planned. I just tried to remind myself I was learning the material and I will still meet my goal of taking the exam at the date I scheduled if I could get through easier chapters quicker. Being aware and balancing this helped me stayed on track with my exam dates.
