    @7:45 confluence is a morphing district. It is overlaying Perrache district that was infamous for the now decomissioned St Paul prison, prostitution and criminality. The purpose of the urbanisation is to change the perception of that district to something hype and modern. Firstly with the mall Wesfield confluence, the fancy architecture and the museum.
    The problem is that it is remote from everything.
    The tip of confluence is mainly reachable by tramway which is slow and then only from Perrache the network is finally available.

    It looks like Jean moulin Lyon 3 is right by La Guillotiere, did you ever have to walk through/near the dodgy areas? Did you feel that the public transportation was safe given how close it is to that area?

    • @LegallyBlondeAbroad
      @LegallyBlondeAbroad  Před rokem

      Hi Bryn, yes you are right - the campus is right by La Guillotière. My metro ride to and from my accomodation (in Vieux Lyon) to Lyon 3 would stop here, which was perfectly safe - particularly if you're commuting during daylight hours with lots of other people around. I have also ridden various lime scooters or bikes through this area, in fact it is lovely because it's right by the riverbank. Simply put, I just wanted to flag as a word of warning to anyone to be vigilant here, especially at night.

    • @LegallyBlondeAbroad
      @LegallyBlondeAbroad  Před 3 lety +4

      Hey Josephine, I assume you’re talking about La Guilliotière. It’s a beautiful suburb, right on the river. Personally I’ve eaten at restaurants there, and I had a friend who lived there. However, it is known for crime and violence so I would caution you if you are in the area in the evening hours. People lurk at that metro station as if they are there for some unwanted business. While most of the time they are harmless, it can be quite intimidating if you’re new to the area and are a tourist.

      @@s.a.h6416 the city of Lyon was amazing. The people were all kind. My french wasn't that good but the people are willing to help you, as long as you attempt to speak french. I never once felt at danger when i was there and I know my friends felt the same.
      The only downside for me is supermarket prices weren't much cheaper from home as I'm from London. However transport prices are very good. Once you get a student travel card, it's 25 euros for the month and allows you to take bus, metro and tram all over the city. Making friends is also very easy, as there will be a lot of international students there looking to meet new people.
      Also, watch out when in the area La Guillotiere as there are a lot of pickpockets, but apart from that it's a relatively low crime city from what I experienced.
      I honestly loved my year there and I am looking to go visit again very soon. Also, my friend from the USA only spent 1 semester and regretted not staying longer, to the point where she's thinking about going back to do a masters degree.
      I hope that I've helped you out, if you want to know anymore, please feel free to ask.

    Les prix ont explosé à Lyon au cours de l'année 2021 et la carte que vous montrez est très largement dépassée. C'est dans le 8ème arrondissement que la hausse a été la plus forte. Cet arrondissement présente une forte disparité entre sa moitié nord très riche et très cotée et sa moitié sud très décotée.La moitié Nord qui correspond au quartier Monplaisir a vu pour la première fois à Lyon en 2019 les prix atteindre le niveau parisien en frisant les 10000 euros le m2 carré!

    I'm from Lyon. Bouchons are not traditional French restaurants. They are typically lyonnais. Traboules are not spiral stairways. They are secret covered passageways. Some of them are stairways. So, yeah, I stopped listening after that.

      Nitpicking: Lyon is *in* France, so any traditionally Lyonnais is definitionally French. Similarly, Chicago has a system of secret “pedestrian tunnels,” though-in fact-some are up in the “air.” If you say “tunnels” ….everybody understands this refers to the entirety of the system of pedways. Any of the three words is acceptable, “tunnel,” “pedway,” “skyways,”….etc…..
