Absolutely love TPE easily the best liverys but yes they are probs worst with punctuality I like them so have at least 1 person is a fan 😂

I went to Chinley with a friend once. I thought maybe he just wanted to look at the railway station and get lunch and enjoy the landscape - turns out he wanted to enjoy the landscape by hiking up into the hills on a very muddy, slippery, rainy, windy January day. I think he started to understand his mistake when the wind picked up and I clung to a fencepost sobbing because I was afraid of getting blown violently off the hill 👍 ANYWAY. This line is lovely and this video was also lovely!
The miracle is TPE actually turning up. It might have been late but at least it turned up lol.

The Hope Valley Line is a incredible line. Have to say that there are some incredible backdrops on that line including a tunnel next to the railway station.

Ever since I was a child and reading my Railways albums, I was taken with Chinley North Junction . I rode past it recently by taking a train from Liverpool to Doncaster and return. Videod as we raced past CNJn. Fantastic, as was TPE that day. I had a lovely chat with the onboard host and have kept the TPE cup as a souvenir.

If you did this Thursday, Friday or Saturday morning I can highly recommend Henshalls butchers in Chinley. So long as you’re not veggie/vegan! Burgers are awesome!

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away there used to be InterCity trains from Nottingham to Glasgow via Sheffield and Manchester Victoria. The Hope Valley was the scenic intermission in the otherwise industrial north. If you want to do a video on a non-train thing, do go and see the shivering mountain at Castleton and see what happens when an A road falls apart due to shifting geology.
Great stuff Jen, you're on my patch now! I use the line most weeks for walking from all the stations from Dore to Edale. We've always called Hathersage Hathersausage and you've just confirmed it!
Some really pretty station settings there. Aylesford station has also been converted into an Indian restaurant, at least it preserves the building. Oh and ' haveasausage' 😂

I used to live in Sheffield and regularly took trains on this line to visit Grandparents after we moved up the line to Marple. Dore as it used to be called in the 90’s was the closest station to their house. Way before my time the station did have multiple platforms but was singled due to cost cutting, Glad to see they are finally sorting the problem.

Brilliant video Jen, I've been down the hope valley line myself but only on EMR and TPE services and I've never got out at any of the stations, seeing them from onboard trains I must say they look nice. Also speaking of TPE, it's typical of them to hold up other trains (maybe they're the late running trains being in front of EMR ones on the Sheffield end of the midland main line?). Looking forward to the next part. :)

The tunnel at Grindleford is Totley Tunnel.
At three and a half miles long it's one of the longest in the UK. 🙂👍

@@ianr Thanks, pre Elizabeth Line the London equivalent to me was the Central Line , about 54 miles though and takes about a hour and a half at london fares of about £10 in the peak. Hope Valley varies but is about £14 (can be more, or less) on the fast morning and evening peaks at 40mins, or stopping at hour and half ( trainline recommends split fares and going into Sheffield or Manchester depending on time of day and fast generally (or Chinley stop) for part of route. Of course in Hope Valley line case most of the "commuter" traffic is at the ends, rather than the middle, which is the reverse of London . The extra platform at Dore and the additional passing loop for frieghts should either speed up passenger journeys or increase to 3 TPH , which is not bad "levelling up" in action I suppose.
Once you get to marple theres a little museum about the station and the line in the westbound waiting room

Great vlog Jen, the scenery along this line is amazing I’ve traveled along it several times as a kid but not since 2015 of a TPE service lol. Would love to do some of the between stations at some point. I enjoyed watching as always!

It's so cool y'all have these lovely stations and transit-service in what looks to be a fairly removed area…tho, I know, noplace in the UK is really rural by US standards. Are these diesel, or electric trains? Very beautiful surrounds, thanks for sharing!

The ticket machine at Chinley is pretty unusable, the sunlight means you cannot see it and on hot days the machine cooks and fails
Fab video! :) The Hope Valley line is very pretty, though I am one of those strange people that uses the trains just to walk up big hills! (Maybe) Fun Fact, the Hope Valley Line got mentioned on an episode of Doctor Who, (with a train getting stopped by alien technology between Hathersage and Grindleford.
Also, I don't like Macclesfield either and I grew up there...
These station (platforms) with Amazon Lockers on them etc, remind me of Red Star Parcels, will we be getting the guard (or station staff if they are going to be retained with the demise of ticket offices) adding the incoming deliveries to them of the train ( matt marriott style from Oh Mr Porter ?)
Grindleford had the most Thomas the Tank Engine tunnel I've ever seen
There is a lack of Parking at Chinley (it could be a good P and R for number of passengers, and access to it from the main road by car is pretty bad really.

Lovely video Jen. I can't be the only one who knows the Hope Valley line for the cafe at Grindleford and use the line to get back to Edale from Hope after walking the great ridge. There is a much better outdoor shop in Hathersage than the one you mentioned. Keep up the good work.

Are the stations on the Hope as Pretty as Barking??
I always thought the Sage in Hatthersage was pronounced as in Sage & Onion, thus Hather-Sage.
