ASMR Baking Scones from Scratch! (Soft Spoken) With Chocolate chips. No talking version tomorrow.

- Hey, guess what?!! I finally got the kitchen to myself! Clapping with delight! It is time to make some wonderful scones from scratch. And the reason I made scones is because I really want to have a tea party with my daughter, Abigail. She has agreed to be in another video with me. I will talk more about that in this video. Anyway, these scones were soooo good with those huge chunks of chocolate. Hang around with me and listen to the comforting sounds of someone in the kitchen. These scones are for you!
The sounds you will hear in this video will be of stirring, scraping, mixing, beating, paper crinkles, plastic crinkles, wood bowls & spoons, rain, birds & my soft spoken voice.
Chocolate Chip Scone Recipe
Preheat oven to 400 F.
Ingredients: 2 Cups all purpose flour, 1/4 Cup sugar, 1 1/4 tsps. baking powder, 1/4 tsp. baking soda, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold),1 cup dark chocolate chips, 3/4 cup buttermilk, tsp vanilla, 1 egg (optional)

Whisk together the dry ingredients.
Grate the cold butter using a cheese grater.
Use knife to blend butter with the flour mixture.
Mix in chocolate chips.
In separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk & vanilla and egg.
Add wet ingredients to flour mixture just until incorporated.
(Do not over mix to avoid dense scones)
With a little flour on a clean surface, knead the dough for about a minute.
Shape into a circle about 1 1/2 inches thick. Cut into wedges like a pie.
Place scones on lined baking pan.
Brush top of scones with buttermilk.
Bake 22-25 minutes or until golden brown.

For the record, my mother also taught me how to "cut in" the butter with two knives. I prefer it, too. Neither one of us had pastry cutters either. I never had scones ever in my life. Even less a true traditionally British Afternoon Tea. I went to the Ritz-Carlton once to have at least some feeling from it but I'd pay a lot to have the real experience in full. Besides, Rebecca, your scones look just so delicious. I’m from Cornwall . We make our scones very differently. As well as pasties, they’re the food that people associate with being in Cornwall.
You should look them up. A Cornish cream tea.
Cut in 2 then jam first ( this is very important, you’ve no idea of the arguments between Cornwall and Devon over this) then massive amounts of Cornish clotted cream on top.

Okay. I think that I would prefer clotted cream first with jam on top. But that’s only because I prefer the clotted cream to melt on the warm scone/biscuit. Although, I have read that the queen prefers it the other way around. 😉
Yes The Queen likes it the Cornish way. :) honestly, it’s much nicer Jam first. Not sure why really but it is. Could be a pride thing as our clotted cream is famous. We don’t need to hide it with jam lol

I have to tell you! I bought some clotted cream that comes from UK. I am going to have a video up next week of my daughter and I trying it for the first time with the scones. We try to have a tea party. But we are ridiculously silly. But I have to say that I now wish that I had regular access to clotted cream! I have read that it is possible to make my own. Hello! I have been listening to your other videos but I found a baking video, then this one. Just wanted to say I love them! I also love looking at the beautiful and charming baking equipment you have. Thank you for making such nice videos! p.s. though :D Your cute sleeves remind me of this Western, "Support Your Local Sheriff" with James Garner. The woman character, Prudy, bakes in the kitchen in this really fancy dress with floofy sleeves. Why is she wearing those for baking!? She's really asking for it since she gets herself into all kinds of binds! She messes her dress, gets flour on her face and hair without realizing it because her mind is elsewhere, and the next thing you know her very fancy dress caught fire. She didn't know until she served something to the table and James Garner put her dress out with a pitcher of water. I love that part of that movie :D

Rebecca I am with you on making pies. I’m home economics class every single time I tried to roll it out the dough would break apart & I would get soooo frustrated. I decided even back then I was NOT a pie maker & haven’t made one since…🤣. You may as well know your limits & accept them when it comes to baking/cooking in the kitchen. You did a fantastic job. I have an antique shifter & mixer like what you used. All these years later & they are still working like the day they were new. ♥️♥️♥️. PS….I would L♥️VE to have your baking cabinet. The Hoosier cabinet that I have costs anywhere from $600-$1200. Depending on the condition of it. When Jerry and I first moved into our house we had a bit of money from the sale of our previous home. I knew I had to have one. 😀👍🏻

There are many people with the same opinion as you. And honestly, it doesn’t matter which version I do there will always be somebody who wishes it with the other way. So I try to do an even amount of both so that there will always be enough material for everybody. I have made playlists that separate out the soft spoken from my whispered. Thank you for expressing that opinion so kindly.
